IIT Bombay has 3 kinds of hostel facilities for undergrads

    1. Fresher year hostel - Hostel 15-16: In the rooms of these hostels, the kitchens are too small and you just have your own bare space. Some rooms have an additional free space in your room while others have more than enough space for you and your roommate.
    2. Senior Hostel (for the rest male undergraduates): The rooms are a bit better than Fresher hostels with an additional store room. However, this store room is very small in most cases. There is an additional space apart from your own room and your roommates.
  • Senior Hostel (for the rest female undergrads): Girls' hostel rooms have the maximum space and the best facilities.

At the end of the day, the size of your hostel room hardly matters in your college life. You get habitual after a few months and it becomes the smallest issue.

Depends on which hostel you are getting. IIT Bombay has 17 hostels in total (hostel no - 1 to 16, hostel no - 18, and Tansa).

Hostels 1-9 are pretty old. The rooms are congested at these hostels. Rooms are double sharing.

IIT Bombay hostel rooms at hostels 15,16 are bigger and are in pretty good condition. Hostel 15 is the only co-ed hostel in the institute. Facilities at the new hostels are pretty good. Frashers are provided accommodation at these hostels.

There are a total of 17 hostels for boys and girls at the IIT Bombay campus. Most of the rooms have a double occupancy while there are some single ones too. Basics amenities like bed, study tables, cupboards, chairs are provided. The rooms are semi-furnished. Usually, all the first-year students from all academic programs (UG and PG) are allotted to the same hostels. There are various facilities available such as the internet, indoor games, private mess, etc. The rooms allotted to freshers are quite nice and spacious with all the required facilities. However, rooms in the old hostels are congested.

H1-H9- These hostels have double occupancy rooms. The rooms are small and just adequate for two people.
H10-H11- These are girls hostels and the rooms are similar to that of H1.
H12-H13- These hostels have 2 types of rooms. One type of rooms are spacious with a petition and 4 in build slabs (2 on either side of the petition) serving as bad. The rest of the rooms are single rooms.
H14- This hostel has only single rooms. The furniture is movable.
H15-16- These hostels are allotted to the freshers. The room are double occupancy and large.
