Which should be preffered IIT bhu electrical or BITS pilani EEE?

PR
Parag Roy Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (IIT BHU) (2016)

Both institutes are among the top institutions in India. So decide accordingly based on the following factors -

According to NIRF Ranking 2019, BITS Pilani is ranked at 39 and IIT BHU at 28. So the numbers show that IIT BHU has performed better over BITS Pilani in terms of infrastructure, faculties, research facilities, outreach, and location.

The IITs being run by the government body, the fee structure is less as compared to BITS Pilani. Also being government institutions, IITs have fee waiver schemes available, unlike BITS.

Electrical at IIT BHU includes only the core electrical subjects which is why a lot of the students end up preparing for software/hardware companies for the placement with a decent package since there are few companies employing core electrical students. On the other hand, BITS Pilani has a combined electrical and electronics engineering course which provides students with the knowledge of both the areas as the industry demands so and also provides opportunities in various areas. So if you are interested in learning more and in-depth about the subject, BITS Pilani should be the choice. Being a private institute, they have very flexible and effective course structures.

Overall, both the institute has good faculties. However, when it comes to IIT BHU since it is an older institute, it has many well-experienced faculties. Moreover, IITs lead in the research facilities as well as in research work.

Both institutes provide good placement opportunities to their students. According to 2019 placement statistics, a total of 88 students got placed from Electrical in IIT BHU. The average CTC ranged between 10 LPA to 58.21 LPA. While in BITS Pilani the placement percentage of EEE was around 59.3% with an average CTC of 14.86 LPA. If you are interested in MS after B.Tech, then BITS-Pilani would be better. Though IITs are popular worldwide, it is better to have the BITS tag for doing MS. If you are planning for an M.Tech or research-oriented career in India, IIT BHU is better.

Both institutes offer a huge alumni network. BITS has many alumni working in foreign, international brands. However, the alumni network of IIT BHU is a little larger since it is older and its alumni are present in every possible career paths.

Which will be good, IIT BHU Electrical or IIT Hyderabad Electrical?

AD
Abhinav Dutta Posted On : August 13th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi

Both IIT BHU and IIT Hyderabad are new IITs. However, IIT BHU is an old institute and later on converted to IIT while IITH is newly constructed. Though newly constructed, the growth of IITH has been pretty impressively. According to NIRF ranking, IITH (rank - 7) is far ahead of IIT BHU (rank - 14) which proves that IITH has better infrastructure, faculties, research facilities, outreach, and location.

As of 2019, the opening and closing rank of IITH for Electrical is 808-1868 while in IIT BHU the closing rank was 2054. The IITH has the combined electrical and electronics engineering course which provides students with the knowledge of both the areas as the industry demands and provides opportunities in various areas. In contrast, IIT BHU has a separate electrical engineering course that is dedicated to specific electrical subjects.

Both the IITs hold good placement records. In 2019 a total of 88 students were placed from EE in IIT BHU. The offers were ranged between 10 LPA to 58.21 LPA. Whereas, the placement statistics for the EE department in IITH suggest there was 73.17% placement with a median salary of 15.23 LPA.

IITH has signed MoUs with renowned Japanese colleges, so there is a huge trend of going to further studies in Japan. Unlike IITH, IIT BHU, being an old college, has a strong alumni network, and there are many alumni at high positions in the organization. Both these institutions have their perks for a EE degree, so choose according to your convenience.

Which is better, IT in BVM or EE in PDPU?

AC
Arindam Chakraborty Posted On : April 19th, 2021
B.Tech Petroleum, Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gandhinagar (2019)

If you choose Electrical Engineering (EE) in PDPU, then you will definitely get a job, as this institute has a better EE department. But you must maintain your CGPA of approximately 9. One of my friends has studied in this institute, and he told me that it is easy enough to maintain this score in PDPU.

In the following, a brief overview has been given, considering these two institutes.

Criteria

BVM

PDPU

Highest CTC

18 LPA

19.20 LPA

Lowest CTC

2 LPA

3-4 LPA

Average CTC

4 LPA

6-7 LPA

Placement statistics

60-65%

80%

However, if you get selected in MNCs (IT and corporate jobs), they may bore you after a few years. So, if you desire to pursue your career in this field or want some experience, you can select a stream based on their preferences. However, my friend studied Petroleum Engineering (B.Tech) in 2015-2019 from PDPU.

Which branch should I choose: B.Tech (Electrical Engineering) in IIT Roorkee or Dual Degree (Electrical Engineering) in IIT Kharaghpur?

SG
Senjuti Gupta Posted On : April 12th, 2023
studied at IIT Kgp

Both BTech EE from IIT Roorkee and Dual Degree EE from IT KGP are great programs for those interested in core fields. You will have to maintain a good score throughout and support your resume with some additional projects. The only problem for those who target non-core industries is during internships wherein companies prefer BTech students over Dual Degree students.

Placements are more about your academic and non-academic achievements than your degree name. However, it’s important to note that your degree should align with the industry in case of core placements.

The students of both programs stay together and have the same campus life and there isn’t much difference. All I feel is that Dual Degree specialization offers you a kind of flexibility to choose from a variety of specializations.

Which is better at IIT Delhi, electrical engineering or mathematics and computing?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : April 5th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Both the branches, Electrical and MnC have great scope in terms of employment in both core and non-core jobs. However, most high-paying jobs are given to CS students with the Electrical students securing average packages only. Here is when MnC comes to your rescue. It provides opportunities for CS jobs as well as Finance and Analytics, both being highly paid and demanded sectors. The branch attracts huge companies like Goldman Sachs.

Anyone with a deep interest in Mathematical concepts and theoretical concepts will find this program very intriguing. The curriculum comprises core math topics like discrete mathematics, combinatorics, algebra, and statistics as well as some CS topics. Electrical on the other hand, has topics like power electronics and electronic circuits which focus on practical implementation rather than theoretical concepts.

Department-wise, Electrical is better because of the quality of the faculty pool it has. MnC constantly faces issues related to the quality of teaching and faculty. The faculty in the Maths department is excellent but when it comes to teaching CS electives, it does not impart knowledge better than core CS professors.

Which one is better, electrical engineering or electrical (power and automation) from IIT Delhi?

SG
Sushmita Gupta Posted On : April 3rd, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

It’s best to compare both the branches based on the most common aspects such as

  • Curriculum: The curriculum of both Electrical Engineering and Electrical Engineering (Power and Automation) covers a lot of common topics. The core courses of one may be available as either core courses or elective courses for the other, and vice versa. Only around 5 distinguishing courses are offered.
  • Job opportunities: As far as core placements are concerned, the opportunities offered by both branches are quite different. Some companies might prefer students of one branch over the other. The non-core job roles offered are very similar in both branches.
  • Competition: Electrical Engineering has better-ranking students than Electrical (Power and Automation). Thus the former has better competition than the latter. Someone who is among the top 10 in Electrical is among the top 2-3 in Electrical Power and Automation.

IIT Delhi Electrical Engineering offers slightly more opportunities in terms of peer quality and placements than the other.

What should I take, electrical engineering at IIT Delhi or CSE at BITS Pilani?

DS
Dipti Sinha Posted On : April 3rd, 2023
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (2022)

Both IIT Delhi and BITS Pilani are esteemed institutions with dynamic programs in electrical engineering and computer science, respectively. However, the decision of which program to choose depends on your personal interests and career goals. But one can consider the following points while make the decision

  • Placements: The placement scenario is quite similar in both the institutes' byte CSE being the most in-demand branch sought better placements with the average package this year being, INR 30.37 LPA. Additionally, you can get coding jobs more easily as a CS student than EE.
  • Brand: This is where your IIT tag comes into play. It has a better brand value than BITS thus making it easier to apply abroad for higher education.
  • Education: Both the quality of education and rigor is higher at IIT Delhi than BITS.
  • Workload: BITS Pilani has less academic workload making it possible to seek much more than studies. The laid-back ambiance gives you opportunities to explore your interests apart from academics.
  • Fees: BITS Pilani has much higher fees around INR 4.84 lakh- INR 19.94 lakh for the CS program whereas IIT Delhi has lower fees around INR 8.00 Lakh.
  • Location: IIT Delhi enjoys the locational advantage of being surrounded with markets, multiplexes, and malls which is not possible due to the remote location of BITS Pilani.

BITS is somewhere near the level of IIT Delhi but its overall campus and opportunities are yet to reach its level.

IIT Madras electrical engineering or IIT Delhi electrical engineering, which is the best?

AB
Aarti Bora Posted On : March 30th, 2023
IIT Madras, IISc Bangalore

Unless you are considering IIT Delhi because of its location advantage, IIT Madras is the best option. No one ever leaves IIT Madras disappointed. Another factor people consider is the environment provided by the Institute. Most North Indians consider the culture at IIT Madras way different and thus end up losing focus and motivation. If you are affected by such elements, choose the Institute you think will have a culture and people similar to your tastes.

Many North Indians are settling well in IIT Madras and ending up in the top 5% of the batch. So what matters is that the Institute you are choosing should provide the kind of environment that motivates you to learn and excel.

You will face tremendous competition and thus you will have to stay focussed and motivated to do well in that kind of environment. It is extremely necessary to choose the right environment for you as you will be spending 4 years of your life there.

Thus if a certain Institute, for instance, IIT Madras has more facilities than IIT Delhi but you stay among average students in IIT Madras but among the top 5% in IIT Delhi, then the right option for you is IIT Delhi.
