Should I prefer EE in IIT Dharwad over Civil in IIT Tirupati?

Both IIT Tirupati and IIT Dharwad are a couple of the newer generation of IITs and haven’t been ranked by NIRF yet. Civil is a core branch and needs a lot of diligence to excel in the field because as compared to EE, opportunities are comparatively less in the present market.

Curriculum 

IIT Dharwad

• Since it is a new college, it is mentored by old colleges like IIT-K, IIT-M and students are even taught by SWAYAM courses offered by professors from the old IITs. 
• Control systems, Electrical Power Quality, Network theory, fundamentals of microprocessors, IOT are some important subjects included in the curriculum.

IIT Tirupati

• The following labs are included in the course, Materials Lab, Geotechnical Lab, Transportation Lab, Surveying Lab, Water Resource Lab. 
• Apart from this the subjects are as per the UGC guidelines and the same in most of the IITs.

Placement 

IIT Dharwad

• Average placement rate for EE was around 60%
• Highest offer bagged was 12 LPA
• Average salary package received was in the range 5-7 LPA
• In 2019, average stipend received was 20,000
• Top recruiters were Nasdaq, Adobe, TCS, Infosys, etc. amongst 20+ other companies

IIT Tirupati

• The recruiters were Genpact, OYO, TCS, Levadata, L&T amongst 30 others.
• The key recruiting sectors are IT, analytics, consulting, and R&D.
• The highest package of IIT Tirupati in the year 2019 was ?22 LPA and the average package ?9.18 LPA.
• In civil engineering, the average placement rate was 75%

There is not much to distinguish between the two institutes as faculty are highly qualified and many are involved in research projects funded by the government. Both these colleges are relatively new and hence are yet to make a mark and name under the brand of IITs. EE branch presents more opportunities and lucrative offers at present. Hence, it is up to the individual to make an informed choice and select a given course at a particular college.
