Can any one enlighten me regarding the MS(by research) program at IIT Kharagpur?

AA
Aishwarya Anand Posted On : March 27th, 2023
Ph. D. from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT KGP)

While many confuse MTech and MS as similar, both programs have extremely different perspectives. Hence their worth and demand cannot be rightly compared.

The two major points of difference are that

  • MTech has a fixed duration of 2 years whereas MS has no fixed duration and is completed whenever your professor decides.
  • MTech is a good option for those looking for high packages whereas MS is for the ones passionate about research.

MS is usually completed once all your research work comes to an end in addition to the first year's coursework. Most people opt for PhDs from top foreign universities. Admission to such universities becomes easy if you have some valuable publications under your name.

Job prospects: Once you have completed your Ph.D. from a reputed university, you can enter teaching professors in top universities. Another option is the R and D section of some elite companies of the world. So we can safely conclude that both MTech and MS have their own individual benefits.

How are the PG results of KMC Manipal, Mangalore students?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : September 30th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

KMC students perform well in PG entrances. The PG result mainly depends upon individual hard work and MBBS training.

As a student of KMC Manipal, I can shed some light on my institute. The MBBS training offered by this college is really good. The faculty is top-notch, and classes are held regularly. You’ll be offered high clinical exposure.

Many of my seniors have cracked PG entrances right after internship or a year drop. They got into top colleges with the stream of their choice. KMC Manipal is especially a great choice if you plan to move abroad.

Some of the exam questions are based on the USMLE pattern. Also, the college holds seminars to guide students on USMLE preparation. This is why the majority USMLE selects are KMC Manipal alumni.

Thus, KMC is a good choice for your MBBS, and you’ll get ample facilities over here to ace your PG entrances.

Between an M.Sc chemistry in BITS Hyderabad and CSE in VIT, which is better?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : December 22nd, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

Based on mine and my friends’ experiences, here are some points I would like for you to consider in this regard-

  1. The branch should always be your top priority. For a dual degree in CSE at BITS Hyderabad, you’ll need to score more than 7.6 CG. That would mean an average +30 in most subjects (relative grading). Phoenix Dual is a better option than VIT CSE.
  2. Dual degree will take away a lot from your campus life. You won’t be able to enjoy clubs and events to the fullest.
  3. BITS Hyderabad undoubtedly has a better crowd quality. Moreover, it carries the prestigious ‘BITS’ tag.
  4. BITS will give you a more quality campus experience with better academics.

The decision has to be made by you, but I hope that these points will guide you. Whatever you choose, make sure to maintain a good academic performance in college, so that you end up getting decent job offers.

Which one of these two is better for M.Sc in physics, IIEST Shibpur or NIT Durgapur? Are there any placements for M.Sc students at IIEST?

AS
Akriti Sinha Posted On : August 16th, 2022
B.Tech in Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology Durgapur

NIT Durgapur will be better for an M.Sc Physics. The quality of academics and exposure offered is better than any of the non-tech institutes in the region. Most students prepare for competitive examinations like NET, GATE, JEST, BARC, ISRO, etc. NITD also has collaborations with many national institutes and research labs.

Yes, IIEST offers placements to MSc students. But the salary packages offered aren’t very high.

Is MSc in astronomy preferable at IIT Indore?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : June 20th, 2023

The MSc in Astronomy at IIT Indore is a recently launched program and it’s difficult to determine its worth and credibility just yet. IIT Indore is the only IIT to offer such a unique program. The entrance to this program is through the JAM (physics) examination. Here is why it should be preferred

  • Job opportunities for this program are present both in academia and industry
  • Research work positions are present in universities, observatories, and research institutes.
  • Teaching positions at various colleges and universities in India are also a good option for the students of this program.

However, IIT Indore MSc Astronomy will restrict your research area to astronomy only. So, this program should be taken only if you are certain of doing full-time research in Astronomy. If you want to explore other fields of Physics then go for MSc Physics from any other IIT.

Which should I choose: MBA (2 year PGP) from IIM Ahmedabad or MS in computer science from a decent (top 10 & not top 3) US university with funding? What should I consider when choosing?

MV
Mathivathan Vhallatharasu Posted On : December 13th, 2022
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (Graduated 2021)

A friend of mine faced a similar dilemma when he was torn between choosing IIM Ahmedabad (MBA) and Stanford (MS). He went for IIM Ahmedabad in the end. He considered the following factors before making this decision:

  • Geographical factors: If you want to stay in India then MBA from IIM Ahmedabad is the best choice. But if you are certain you want to settle abroad, MS from Stanford is a good choice.

  • Nature of career: Comparing the nature of both the courses, we find that MBA is a general one while MS is specific. MBA is related to business and management while MS is technical. Based on your interests and aspirations one can easily make a choice between the two.

If you are still unable to decide then know that you can pursue MBA in the US even after MS. The latter will offer you more opportunities.

How is the Integrated M.Sc. course for Physics at NIT Rourkela?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : September 5th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Integrated MSc Physics at NIT Rourkela is good enough, but make sure that you don’t select this institute if you have better options in hand. The main attraction of this institute is the course structure that allows time to excel in other essential courses like Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Quantum Mechanics, and Statistical Mechanics. In addition, you can also study specialized electives like Advanced Quantum Mechanics, Advanced Condensed Matter Physics, Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos, Nonlinear Optics, Magnetism, Semiconductors, etc.

The faculty support and laboratory facilities are very poor. So, you need to rely on online classes from external sources to understand the concept properly. You also need to give more importance to self-study otherwise, you may end up futile here. If you have a passion for physics, then you can choose this college

Is doing M.Sc at Bangalore University a good option?

KM
Krishna Murthy Posted On : November 30th, 2021
M.Sc. Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Bangalore University (2009)

According to the reviews online, Bangalore University (BU) is an average institution. It sure is one of the oldest in the country and has a reputation. But it nowadays has been seen to deteriorate day by day.

Here are some facts about BU:

  • The faculty members, though highly experienced, are very few. Most of the classes are taken by Research students.
  • There is no proper management.
  • The exam results are delayed most of the time.
  • The syllabus is not upgraded catering to the latest trends in the industry.
  • Bus service is not provided.
  • The canteen is not clean and well maintained.

Most students choose to study in this college due to its brand and reputation. It is an older elite institute which they often think will be reliable. The quality of education is considered to be good and students are selected here for admission based on their merit.
