UG
Urvashi Gaur Posted On : September 30th, 2020
B.E. Mech Engg. from University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University (2019)

Both the colleges, UIET PU and CGC Landran were placed in the rank band of 201-250 according to the NIRF Rankings of 2020. The course duration for both the colleges is for 4 years but UIET offers a BE degree, whereas CGC Landran offers a B.Tech degree.

CGC Landran (ME):

Admission:

  • JEE Main scores are accepted for admission to this college.

  • The Mechanical Engineering stream has only 60 seats in CGC Landran. The total course fees for the duration of 4 years is Rs.3.48 lakh.

Placement:

  • The placement rate for the ME stream is 40-50%.

  • The average salary package received is around 4-5 LPA.

  • The students get offered placements coming from government organizations including ISRO, DRDO, Indian Armed forces Navy, Air force, and Army.

  • Companies like Eveready, Hyundai, Panasonic, Mahindra, Deloitte, Ashok Leyland, etc visit this college for offering placements after graduation

UIET (ME):

  • The total number of seats available for the ME stream in UIET is 94. The entire expense for the course duration of 4 years is Rs.4.08 lakh.

Faculty: The student to faculty ratio is around 400:25 which implies the number of teachers compared to the students is very low.

Placement:

  • The Placement rate for the ME stream is 15%.

  • Only 15% of students of this stream were placed in core companies after graduation at UIET.

  • 32 students from a batch of 79 in the year 2018 were placed in both core and noncore companies including Mahindra, Hero Honda, Deloitte, ZS, Infosys, Zycus, Juganoo, Zscaler, etc.

  • 2 students had got an internship offer during the 4 years of the course and among them, one was from a non-mechanical core company i.e. ZS Associates.

  • The highest salary package was 11 lakh per annum from Juganoo and the lowest was 3.6 LPA from Infosys.

  • The average salary package offered is around 3-4 LPA.

Mostly the package received depends on the performance of the individual in the case of both the colleges. Go through the important facts about each of the colleges mentioned above and choose which will be best for you.

Which is better: NIT Uttarakhand or UIET Chandigarh?

AG
Aakash Gupta Posted On : January 12th, 2021
B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from UIET, Panjab University (2019)

NIT Uttarakhand though sounds promising due to the NIT tag but UIET Chandigarh is definitely better than the former. UIET Chandigarh is affiliated to PU (Panjab University), which has a NIRF ranking of 72 whereas NIT Uttarakhand is yet to make it to the NIRF ranking list.

Here are some of the reasons that made me choose UIET over NIT Uttarakhand:

  1. UIET is affiliated to PU, which is one of the oldest and finest universities in India. Unlike, NIT Uttarakhand which is comparatively a newer institute.
  2. NIT Uttarakhand is located in the northern part of India, Srinagar. It is close to nature but away from the industrial hub. Unlike UIET which is located in the capital city of Punjab, Chandigarh. This provides exposure to industries and opportunities.
  3. UIET Chandigarh encourages students to participate in various activities preparing them for their careers ahead.
  4. The admissions in both of these colleges are through JEE Main.
  5. Both of these colleges also offer scholarships on a need and merit basis.

The facts in the table will give you an idea about their placements and course fees -

The only drawback of UIET is the poor campus infrastructure. Whereas, NIT Uttarakhand being a newer institute is well-equipped with all the necessary amenities. The infrastructure of NIT Uttarakhand is far better than UIET Chandigarh.

So, it’s a clear choice for you, to go for UIET. The only reason why someone will prefer NIT Uttarakhand over UIET Chandigarh is either for their love of mountains and a beautiful campus or the NIT tag.

Which is better: CSE at IIIT Una or UIET Chandigarh?

NS
Naman Singh Posted On : April 1st, 2021
Studied CSE from DTU (2019)

My sister studies in UIET Chandigarh, and it's an excellent institution both spatially and academically. Chandigarh is going to be one of the most flourishing IT cities in India - which enhances the scope for those students who wish to pursue a career in the field of computer science.

You may also want to focus on these when comparing both-

  • Tuition Fee- It has an affordable tuition fee if you compare it with IIIT UNA. You'll have to pay INR 82,000 as one year's tuition fee for the BE program at UIET Chandigarh; you'd have to pay INR 1.02 lakhs per semester for the B.Tech program at IIIT UNA.
  • Faculty- IIIT UNA has 17 members for the CSE department, and all of them are guest faculty members. UIET also has 10-15 teachers who are very motivating.
  • Study Environment- You'd feel a healthy level of competition in the CSE department because there'd be all-rounders and achievers in the class to motivate you to develop.

You can see from the table below that it has an excellent placement record as well-

Average Salary

INR 6 LPA

INR 7 LPA

Highest Salary

Apart from this, the facilities at UIET Chandigarh are quite good if you're interested in sports, then you can join a sports club at the Punjab University and get professional guidance through a coach. Chandigarh itself is a city full of good recreational spots, you can also join different creativity clubs as well.
