How is placement in NIT Raipur for MCA?
The placement graph for MCA differs with each year. There’s a huge difference between the potential of MCA students and the job opportunities provided by NIT Raipur.
Only a handful of companies visiting NIT Raipur allow MCA students to sit for placements. The number is quite low in comparison with the MCA at other NITs. The eligibility criteria put up by companies for placements is 60% (and above) throughout your academic career (10th, 12th, grad and post grad).
After these multiple filtrations, a handful of students are selected on campus. In 2022 however, the figures were quite promising. Out of 70 eligible students, 65 were placed. AQ, GTS, Infosys, Polaris, Persistent, Oracle Finance and Amdocs are some companies that allow MCA students from this college to sit for placements.
Thus, the placements for MCA students at NIT Raipur are average at best.

- NIT Raipur is presently ranked 67th in NIRF ’20 rankings among more than 10,000 engineering colleges in India.
- Over the years, NIT Raipur is improving its standard and facilities, along with its rankings.
- Among all 31 NITs, NIT Raipur is ranked 17th all over India, and 12th as per the records in placement and opportunities.
- Several MNCs like Amazon, UHG, Vedanta, Samsung, Deloitte, RIL, etc visit the campus for placement. Even PSUs like Coal India Limited recruit students from NIT Raipur.
- There are several fields to explore in NIT Raipur, other than studies. The institute organizes 3 major fests every year. The Entrepreneurship Cell organizes an E-summit, which is similar to other events in the institute.
- Though the campus of NIT Raipur is smaller compared to other NITs, a new campus is under construction, which is much larger in size, and with more amenities.
Considering all the above factors, NIT Raipur is definitely a good choice for students in engineering.
Should I go for Metallurgy at NIT Raipur? How are the placements in the branch there?
NIT Raipur is a very good college and currently ranks at 67 in NIRF ranking among the top engineering institutes in India. And if you are a good student then maybe you can even get the CS branch as well.
Placements
- Various companies visited on campus for placements. In addition, the faculty will also train you to clear the aptitude test and focus mainly on the orientation of the students.
- The highest salary package offered was 7 lakh per year for metallurgy in software development, while the lowest was 4 lakh. So, on average, it went from 5 to 6 LPA, which is considered a decent package here in Raipur.
- Infosys, Wipro, and Trendence are the top recruiting companies. A total of 5 to 6 out of 50 students are placed in reputed companies of India.
However, if you want to pursue M.Tech in a good college, study well and sit for GATE instead. The department of Metallurgy is famous at NIT Raipur and can help you in getting good scores.
Which is better, NIT Silchar or NIT Raipur?
In my opinion, NIT Silchar is way better than NIT Raipur. Earlier, the institute faced connectivity issues and therefore wasn't a much preferable choice but the recent developments have solved the issue. NIT Silchar spreads across a whooping 624 acres and has a rich collection of flora and fauna. The institute is known for its numerous lakes, top-notch infrastructure, and excellent net connectivity.
The faculty pool is a mixed bag with both good and bad professors. The seniors are people you can look to and seek help anytime. The research culture is slowly improving although NNITs in general don't have much reputation in research. NIT Silchar has the biggest digital library.
Coming to The placement scenario, it's very promising, especially for the CSE and ECE branches. NIT Silchar placements 2022 recorded 94+ recruiters and offers from Amazon, Microsoft, Adobe, Arcesium, Intuit, etc. Students received 537 offers in all and the highest salary recorded was INR 44 LPA which was offered by Amazon. The average package stood at INR 13.58 LPA.
I don't mean to undermine NIT Raipur in fact its Metallurgy branch is one of the best. But as a whole, NIT Silchar seems to be a more favorable option for you.
What should I choose, a dual degree MSc program in BITS Hyderabad or some branch in NIT Raipur, or CSE in NIT Puducherry?
Choose BITS Hyderabad over NIT Raipur or NIT Puducherry. Here are some of the reasons for choosing this institute:
- They offer a beautiful campus with an enthusiastic student crowd.
- BITS Hyderabad has updated modern machinery and lab facilities.
- The placements definitely differ between the BITS and NITs.
- NIT Raipur is very old-fashioned in its approach towards studying and learning.
- Their faculties teaching method is old and prefers their students mugging up notes rather than learning and understanding something.
- BITS, unlike NIT Raipur, their teaching method is industry-oriented.
You might think that going for a dual degree is better as IT companies only prefer CSE graduates. But nowadays this notion has changed as with big data and analytics creating a boom, more and more such companies visiting campuses and hiring people from all branches.
Therefore it is suggested that you go for BITS Hyderabad, where you will grow and learn in a much more competitive environment. Your vision will be broadened.
How is NIT Hamirpur as compared to NIT Raipur or NIT Patna?

But overall, it is at par with the NITs of northern and eastern regions. I am an alumnus of Biotechnology at NIT Raipur. Initially, I entered this program because of the NIT tag of this institution. But with time, I developed a keen interest in this branch.
Here are some highlights of Biotech at NIT Raipur-
- Biotech is a great branch that demands hard work and dedication.
- With the increase in interdisciplinary projects, Biotechnology contributes to other fields as well, like Electronics, Computer Science, Mechanics, etc. These projects are innovative and interesting.
- The college library is good and contains an ample number of relevant books on Biotechnology.
- The faculty is very supportive, approachable and helpful. Not only will they help you in academics, but you can also ask them for their guidance in any projects or research work.
- In case of doubts and for better learning, you check out NPTEL, Coursera, and Khan Academy.
- If you lose an interest in this field, you can eventually go for an MBA.
- A B.Tech in Biotechnology might not fetch you a satisfactory job. You’ll most probably go for a Master’s later on.
