Which is a better career option, a PGD from a Canadian college or a master's from the University of Windsor (Canada)?

TC
Tanishk Chandel Posted On : February 3rd, 2021
Works as an Educational Counsellor

Completing a Master’s degree is definitely a better option for your future from a qualification point of view. University of Windsor is a well ranked institution and offers good courses to their students. A post graduate is more likely to get a good salary job as compared to a graduate.

Other factors like diversity, costs, co-ops availability and career goals also matter and are bound to be different for everyone.

While Canadian Universities are pretty good, do keep in mind that there are some better than others. Having said that, University of Windsor is a decently ranked university with significant repute as compared to many other Canadian Universities.

University of Windsor key stats:

  • There are 3,500 international students amongst the population of 15,000.
  • The acceptance rate of the institution is 65%.
  • Tuition fee for graduate programs is 20,900 to 24,320 USD.
  • Scholarships and bursaries are available but limited in number.
  • With 86-90% employment rate it is not hard to find decent placements and internship opportunities.
  • The highest employment rate was seen in the Computer Science department (95%) and lowest was seen in the agriculture department (84%) which is still pretty good.

There are many course specific details required for the admissions. 70% is the minimum percentage required for bachelor’s degree and being an international student you will need to provide good scores for your English proficiency and other exams like GRE/GMAT.

Finally, your choice of course should depend on your future goals. So if all the things are favorable to you one can apply to this university.

Which university is better for a Masters in applied computer science, the University of Concordia, or the University of Dalhousie?

PM
Pradipta Mukharjee Posted On : June 6th, 2022
former student of Dalhousie University

For Masters in Applied Computer Science, Concordia University is better. The university has a locational advantage. It is in Montreal, which is becoming an IT hub. You can get good exposure to the programming and gemming industry. Concordia has demanding coursework. You will have to clear programming tests in the first year of the degree, itself. If you are good at coding and think analytically to implement the solution in a practical way, this course is ideal for you.

Here is a brief highlight of Concordia’s Masters in Applied Computer Science.

1st year tuition fees INR 12,76,002
Other costs INR 10,23,672
Eligibility  4-year bachelor's degree or 3-year program and 2-year master’s in a relevant field related to computer science.
Language proficiency test scores TOFEL - 85/120 PTE - 57/90 IELTS - 6.5/9
Program acceptance rate  49.3%
Student-teacher ratio 1:16
Average CTC  INR 6,406,125 (82,500 USD)

Dalhousie University is located in a small city Halifax, full-time opportunities after Masters are fewer there compared to Montreal. However, Montreal is a French city, you will have to learn basic French to get part-time jobs.

Should I go to Concordia University or to Bishop's University (Commerce Bachelor in both)?

NS
Nikita Sinha Posted On : August 5th, 2022
Studied Business Management at Bishop's University

You should choose Bishop’s University for Commerce Bachelor.  In North America, it is one of the best universities for Commerce. Bishop’s team often wins NIBS Worldwide case competition. The academics are great. Due to the small batch size, it’s easier to get mentors. Bishop’s University graduates earn around $146k.

Due to these factors, Bishop’s University is a better option.

What is the acceptance rate at the University of Toronto?

AS
Amit Sachdeva Posted On : February 3rd, 2021
Studies at University of Toronto Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering (2021)

The acceptance rate of UofT is not the most welcoming which is obvious by the fact of it being a top ranked Institute. Once you get into UToronto, the actual struggle is to survive there. It has been ranked 29th by QS World University Ranking, 2020 University of Toronto is quite competitive to get into. Acceptance rate varies from program to program. Average acceptance rate of the University is 43% which comes down to 23.1% for International students.

If you manage to score an average of 87-90 in your 6 major subjects and have a good resume, you will have a pretty high chance of getting here. Better the grade, higher is your chance of getting accepted. Ultimately it depends on the branch to which you seek your admission at, less the competition higher is the acceptance rate.

However it must be mentioned that getting into the University is not a huge deal when compared to surviving after the first year and getting your desired majors.

Statistics of accepted students:

  • Engineering is the most desired field at University of Toronto among international students.
  • Out of 50,041 UG applications 20,296 students were offered admission among which 4,019 were international students.
  • The acceptance rate of graduate courses is around 39%
  • Out of 1056 PhD applicants, 305 were given opportunity for enrollment with an overall acceptance rate of 30%

It must be kept in mind that getting into University of Toronto is much easier than surviving there for a second year. The freshman retention rate of the University lies around 85-90%
