Your experience is determined a lot by the city your college is in. With about 400,000 people, the city of London is comparatively small with very affordable housing. Thus, Western Ontario will be great for those looking for quiet and affordable education. Ranking wise, Ryerson University ranks #801-1000 and University of Western Ontario ranks #203 as per QS World Rankings.
Both these universities have top-rated programs; however, Western has a better reputation than Ryerson due to its history and location, which is more affordable than Toronto. However, Ryerson is located in the heart of downtown Toronto which gives you access to many opportunities which you may miss in London.
Ryerson, being seventy years old, is not a new university but it is half the age of Western which has grand old buildings and stately lawns that are even more than a hundred years old. The table below shows the comparison between the two colleges:
