How do I get admission in NIT Jamshedpur?

VS
Vikram Sethi Posted On : April 22nd, 2021
M.Tech Civil Engineering & Geotechnical Engineering, NIT, Jamshedpur, graduated in 2018

A relative of mine who is an alumnus of NIT Jamshedpur and she has said that the institute is working on its boundaries to make them close. You can easily get into the premises of the institute. Even the locals do.

You will have to clear JEE to get into the Bachelors in technology. If you clear your GATE exams, you can get into M.Tech, PhD, and M.Sc. After you clear interviews, you can get jobs of technician, site engineer, etc.

Some requirements for admission are as follows:

  • Clear your JEE
  • Get a decent rank
  • Clear your CSAB JEE counseling
  • Fill choices, and make sure you have NIT Jamshedpur as your first priority. Pay your fee and get a payslip.
  • Produce required documents at NIT Jamshedpur and the fee slip.

It can be seen that JEE is very important for getting admission to NIT Jamshedpur. So clearing that exam with a decent rank is important.

SP
Shankar Pandey Posted On : April 10th, 2023
B.Tech Production and Industrial Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (2020)

If you're trying to decide between NIT Jamshedpur and NIT Raipur, here are some key points to consider:

  • There is a difference of many years between the establishment of the two institutes. NIT Jamshedpur was established in 1960, while NIT Raipur was established in 1956.
  • NIT Jamshedpur has a better campus than NIT Raipur, which can be seen as an advantage for students.
  • On the other hand, NIT Raipur lacks infrastructure. However, it is important to note that efforts are being made to improve the infrastructure of the institute. A new area has been allotted to NIT Raipur in the Naya Raipur region for the development of a better campus and infrastructure.
  • When it comes to placements and academics, both institutes are equally well-regarded.
  • Some other factors that you may want to consider when choosing between NIT Jamshedpur and NIT Raipur include the location of the institutes, the courses offered, and the faculty.
  • NIT Jamshedpur is located in Jharkhand, while NIT Raipur is located in Chhattisgarh. This may impact factors such as accessibility, cost of living, and cultural experiences.
  • Both institutes offer a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in engineering and technology. You may want to consider the specific courses offered and whether they align with your career goals.
  • The faculty of both institutes are highly qualified and experienced. You may want to research the faculty members in your area of interest to get a better understanding of the quality of education you can expect.

While there are differences between NIT Jamshedpur and NIT Raipur in terms of campus and infrastructure, both institutes are equally well-regarded for their placements and academics. When making your decision, it is important to consider factors such as location, courses offered, and faculty in addition to the infrastructure of the institutes.

Shubhodip Ghosh Posted On : April 22nd, 2021
B.tech from National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur, graduated in 2019

One of my friends who used to be a student in Jamshedpur says that all hostels of NIT Jamshedpur have equal value. The faculty is also experienced and good at teaching as far as the academic background is concerned. The faculty takes enthusiasm in its teaching and is also energetic. One of the teachers was not only the associate Dean but also the chief warden at the same time. There was also talk that he might just be the next Dean of the students’ welfare department.

The cultural students, technical festival, sports meet, and alumni meet consist of a lot of students from the metallurgy. ‘Technica’ is also a popular event for metallurgy students. There are also technical teams like Daksh, Drift, Phoenix, etc where you can work in.

Which is better NIT Jamshedpur CSE or IIIT Allahabad ECE?

DD
Daisy Dhara Posted On : April 23rd, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (2021)

If you are concerned about the brand then definitely go for IIIT Allahabad. But, if you are clear with your choice of stream you can choose either of them. If you choose NIT Jamshedpur CSE it’s good and so is the same with IIIT Allahabad.

I can share one of my cousin’s experiences, who passed out from NIT Jamshedpur.

  • When he cracked the JEE with decent marks and got a chance to opt between these two colleges; he chose NIT Jamshedpur CSE over IIIT Allahabad comparing few factors like placements, exposure and money plays a vital role here.
  • It is all up to you whether you want a tough competitive exposure or a light and cooperative environment.

Let me make it more clearly for you by categorizing engineering colleges:

Tier - 1

IIT B,K,KGP,D,M,R, BHU, HYD,BITS Pilani-Pilani campus,IIIT HYD, IIIT Allahabad, NIT K,W,T, DTU, NSIT, ISM(Dhanbad)

Tier - 2

New IITs like Mandi, Gandhinagar, Patna, DAIICT, BITS HYD, BITS GOA, BIT Mesra, IIIT Bangalore, IIITM Gwalior, NITs - Calicut, Nagpur, Rourkela, Kurukshetra, Allahabad, Bhopal, Jaipur, Durgapur, Jamshedpur, Jadavpur University, IIIT Delhi, LNMIIT, Thapar university.

Tier - 3

Rest of the NITs

Tier - 4

Lower Level State Government Colleges.

Tier - 5

Amity, LPU, ITM, Manipal, SRM Main, GLA-Mathura, Galgotia, BML, SRMS, VIT, JNTU , BMS Bangalore , RV Bangalore and other private engineering colleges and other IIITs Like Vadodara etc and other top state government colleges.

This categorization might help you to decide. Also, skills do not depend on the branding of the building. It is something you learn eventually. Moreover, choose a college which has easy access to transport, shops, etc.

Also, if you see around there is infinite demand for highly skilled electronics engineers with impressive TopCOder and GitHub profiles. So, choosing either of the colleges won’t be a loss. But, if you have a specific interest in a particular stream like ECE in IIIT Allahabad or NIT Jamshedpur will prove a good choice too.

Is NIT Jamshedpur for Electrical better or BIT Mesra for Mechanical?

BT
Bhaskar Tiwari Posted On : April 23rd, 2021
B.Tech Electrical and Electronics Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (2021)

You are comparing two different engineering branches which are core and are perfect in their own place. Also, the selection of the branch should be primarily based on your interest and future plans. It is very important you choose a branch of your interest, as you will spend 4 years learning it. So, decide on the basis of your interest.

NIT Jamshedpur is much better than BIT Mesra in placements except CSE. CSE has slightly better placement in BIT Mesra than NIT Jamshedpur but then the gap is decreasing year by year. So, you can easily opt for the choice of field you want.

NIT JAMSHEDPUR

BIT MESRA

NIRF RANKING (OVERALL)

79

38

FEES

7.16 Lacs

12.32 Lacs

COMPANIES

Amazon, Oneplus, Honeywell, Deloitte, Adobe, Maersk and many more.

Taj, Hyatt, ITC, TCS, TCL, Adobe and many more.

PACKAGE

43.5 LPA

51 LPA

Let me give you some details regarding the future prospects in both of them:

Core Jobs:

  • Both the branches have an equal number of core jobs and both mechanical and electrical engineers are needed at any manufacturing firm.
  • So in this case, it primarily boils down to your inclination towards either of the two branches.

Non-Core Jobs:

  • Electrical Engineers also have the opportunity to switch their career to software engineering without much difficulty.
  • Mechanical Engineers generally don't have this Liberty.

Government Jobs:

  • Mechanical Engineering has the highest no. of vacancies in PSUs and Engineering services.

Several core companies come to campus at Jamshedpur in TATA town, TATA Powers and TATA Motors pick many students for jobs as well as for internships. Now, this brings a great advantage for both Mechanical as well as Electrical branch students.

Talking about infrastructure, BIT Mesra has a more beautiful campus than NIT Jamshedpur. If you want facilities, you should go with BIT Mesra. But, placement wise NIT Jamshedpur is far ahead of BIT Mesra, which is again proving NIT Jamshedpur worth over bit Mesra.

Based on the above parameters, you can decide for yourself. Regarding the two colleges you mentioned, both are equally good and have roughly the same student quality. BIT Mesra has an edge in software profiles and NIT Jamshedpur in Core Engineering placements.

Does NIT Jamshedpur gives scholarships on their fees?

SS
Shristi Sengupta Posted On : April 23rd, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (2021)

Joining NIT Jamshedpur is the most worthwhile decision you will always feel. With a small campus and high placements, NIT Jamshedpur makes a huge difference when compared to other NIT’s and other governmental colleges. It is situated in the TATA town which plays a huge role in placements as the TATA motors and TATA powers pick core branches students. And again, the fees here are quite affordable and expenses are less.

Now, coming to your question, you will be given a fee concession on the basis of your family's annual income. You will get a fee concession if your family income is below a certain amount.

  • If you have your family income less than or near to 1 Lakh, your full tuition fees will be remitted. You will only have to take care of the hostel and mess expenses.
  • For annual income in between 1 Lakh and 5 lakhs, your 2/3rd of the tuition fee will get remitted/semester. But same you have to hold the expenses for hostel and mess.

Note: During fee submission, you will have to pay the whole fee for the semester. At the end of the year, your tuition fees will be remitted for both semesters together.

You might have got an overview of how worthy it is to join NIT Jamshedpur if one opts for it. With Fewer fees, easily accessible things, and in the main town of Tata which helps in easy placements. It’s all good to go here.

Which has the better campus life, NIT Durgapur or NIT Jamshedpur?

SG
Sakshi Gupta Posted On : April 23rd, 2021
B.tech C.S.E from National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (2020)

Well, both the colleges are in different states and both have their own set of reports, some good some bad. Though from an infrastructure point of view, NIT Jamshedpur is small and cozy whereas NIT Durgapur is quite beautiful and flourished in about 187 acres of land.

  • The campus life at NIT Durgapur is really awesome. Apart from academics and infrastructure, it’s an NIT so you can understand it's pretty good.
  • But if you really want to experience it, you should definitely join NIT Durgapur and enjoy the vast playgrounds, clean campus, and friendly environment.
  • Though you can get some negative aspects but there is nothing wrong related to campus life.

Similarly, it goes for NIT Jamshedpur.

  • Even though the infrastructure of NIT Jamshedpur is not at par but definitely the campus life is awesome here too. The students make the campus lively.
  • You will get to see a vast and clean area with basketball, cricket and football ground.
  • Though the facility of Wi-Fi is not provided but you will have sufficient speed and workstations to fulfill your needs.
  • The mess food provided is of good quality.
  • There are many places to hang out and inside the institute only. The cleanliness is very good; in fact, Jamshedpur is one of the cleanest cities of East India.
  • The seniors are awesome and do cooperate and guide you if you face any issues.

Both the campus have good campus life and environment. But better contact someone who studies there and judge the authenticity and then choose between the two and definitely consider placement, faculty, and research before opting for either of them. The campus life at NIT Jamshedpur is quite good and you are not going to regret joining this institute.
