How are EEE and ECE trades at NIT Jamshedpur?

AS

What your preference is and what interests you, these two are very important at making the right choice.

If any of the two branches is of your preference and interest, then you should go for it.

If you have no such preferences and interests and you are only looking at the job prospects after graduating, then I would suggest you consider the following things:

  • Government and Public Sector: These sectors provide more jobs in the electrical field. If you secure a decent GATE score, you will get a lot of interview opportunities in the PSUs. Indian Engineering Services is also an option that has more job opportunities in the electrical branch than the electronic branch. There are very limited opportunities for electronics in the public sector.
  • Private Sector: It is the opposite here. The electronics sector is much ahead in the private sector. You will find a lot of companies providing good salary packages in electronics than electrical. However, the job is not core electronics but software profile.
  • Faculty: The faculty at NIT Jamshedpur is better in the electrical branch than the electronic branch.
  • Laboratories: Electrical branch has better labs than the electronic branch.
  • Academic Curriculum: Electrical branch has a lot more pressure than the electronic branch. A few senior faculty members of the electrical branch will make you cry while in the electronic branch, you can secure good marks even by studying less.

All these are relevant factors to keep in mind before making a choice. Now, the choice is yours.

Will dropping two years for the JEE and getting in NIT Jamshedpur (CSE) affect my placements?

AK
Aakash Kapur Posted On : April 29th, 2021
Studied B.Tech Civil Engineering at NIT Warangal

The majority of the companies will not pay attention to your gap years; instead, they will look at your abilities, strengths, and potential. Placements are more about what and how you fare in the four years of your engineering rather than what you did before that.

  • Some of the primary things that most of the top companies lookout for are communication, skills, potential, knowledge of your subject, technical know-how, and your approach towards the work. You should start paying attention and working towards all these factors.
  • You should try to focus and work on the things which are in your control rather than worrying about things that are not in your control.
  • If you have exceptional skills, prove your potential and passion to the recruiter, have the capacity to stay focused under all types of situations.
  • If you feel you are lacking in any particular area, you will have ample time to work on that prior to your recruitment process.

Make the best of this time available to you, take help and guidance from your mentors, speak to your seniors and learn from their experience and there should be no stopping you.

What are the things which need most attention in order to improve the condition of NIT Jamshedpur?

SC
Sourav Chattoraj Posted On : April 23rd, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur

I have a few friends at NIT Jamshedpur, here are some of the things that should improve, according to them.

Food:

  • The canteen system has a major flaw. The masses are contracted to a single contractor with no proper channel of grievance redressal.
  • Even after complaining to mess secretaries the situation has not improved.
  • They feel that the duration of the mess contract should be a maximum of two semesters for a contractor.
  • Also, students have objected to the recruitment of children from the local slums to work in the mess.

Infrastructure:

  • There are many vacant rooms in each department, like the Entrepreneurship Development cell on top of the CSE department.
  • However, whenever students request for an extra spec for start-up or TAP cell wants more room for recruitment drive the administration denies giving permission.

Internet:

  • There are many complaints about the internet connectivity at the campus. The bandwidth provided is not satisfactory.
  • My friends feel if the tender for wifi is given to private companies like Airtel, the situation can improve.

Technology: The technology used in CSE labs is outdated. According to my friends, switching to the open-source OS in the lab and CC will be great.

Many students have good ideas about how to improve the situation at the campus, be it common room, clubs, or society, the administration should keep an open mind and hear them out.
