How is IGIT, Sarang hostels?

KS
Kuldeep Surana Posted On : March 1st, 2021
BE from Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, Sarang (2019)

IGIT Sarang has a total of 8 hostels. 2 hostels are for girls and 6 are hostels are for boys. A detailed description of the hostels is given below:

Girls’ hostel:

  • Rohini Bhawan: The students of the first and second year live here. The occupancy is 6 students in one room. There have been a few instances of ragging in this hostel, sadly. The quality of food also leaves a lot to be desired.
  • Prithvi Bhawan: The food is better in this hostel compared to Rohini Bhawan. The students of the third and final year occupy this hostel. The occupancy is 5 students in one room.

Boys’ hostel:

  • Akaash Bhawan: This is the hostel for first-year students. It has three blocks. Compared to the other hostels, the condition of the rooms is average. This hostel gradually grows on the students. Students will not have to face water problems while they are here. Ragging has also reduced a lot over the years, which is good news.
  • Aryabhatta Bhawan: This hostel is occupied by the students of the second year. This hotel frequently faces water problems. Even after being cleaned regularly, the washrooms are never in a good condition. The food is good, though.
  • Bhaskar Bhawan: This is the hotel for third-year students. There is no water problem here and has the best architecture. It is the oldest hostel in the institute. The maintenance and food are not good here.
  • Surya Bhawan: It is the royal hostel of IGIT. It is occupied by the final-year students of the institute. Students get one room for themselves and there is an endless supply of food. This hostel is good in every respect.
  • Brahmos Bhawan: This hostel is new and is the best place to live for the occupying students. It is at par with NIT hostels. It accommodates students of institutes like KIIT.

The boys’ hostels include one hostel for diploma students which includes the Agnee Bhawan and the remaining are for MCA and for B.Tech. The condition of the hostels is often not up to the mark, unfortunately.

What is a detailed answer of life in the hostel of BIET Jhansi? Apart from college and academics, how is living in Jhansi in terms of fun and enjoyment?

SP
Sampriti Poddar Posted On : February 19th, 2021
Studied at Bundelkhand Institute Of Engineering And Technology (2018)

Life at BIET is pretty chilled out which is a completely memorable experience to cherish. It depends on what kind of fun you are looking forward to. If studies are your major concern BIET Jhansi is the right place for you. Jhansi being a very small town, does not have a very happening nightlife. If you love nature and cherish wide open places, BIET Jhansi will be the perfect place of recreation for you.

Here are a few points that highlights the best things in the college:

  • There is an unrestricted access to 10-15 MBPs speed almost all the time. Unlike other colleges in India, there is no issue of some websites being blocked or anything like that.
  • The canteen understands the student’s requirements and has been doing a fairly good job of catering to the food needs for quite a long time now.
  • There is electricity backup available at the hostel which makes it very easy during the examination times when everyone spends the whole night studying and revising.
  • There is a lot of greenery and open space for all the ‘fitness lovers’ and ‘nature lovers’. You can have unlimited fresh air 24X7.
  • Contrasting to the other colleges, BIET offers absolute freedom and time to follow your dreams. There is very less interference from the teachers here and also there is no compulsion of following a patterned curriculum.

It would be advisable you to leave all your doubts and confusions behind when you enter BIET and live up to your full potential. This is a good with a very comfortable environment that nurtures developing skills.

How are the hostel rooms for a first-year student at IIT BHU?

MS
Mahima Sethi Posted On : November 15th, 2022
Studied M.A PSIR from Banaras Hindu University

IIT BHU, Varanasi has massive hostels with sprawling, lush-green lawns. There are 12 male hostels and one female hostel with two extensions. Students at IIT BHU are provided with double-seated accommodation beginning in their first year, thanks to the construction of four new hostels in a year and the renovation of others. Needless to say, all of the hostels have LAN access, and students are permitted to use the internet 24 hours a day, seven days a week during the semester. A few hostels have Wi-Fi, making it even easier for students to connect to the internet. First-year students are assigned to separate hostels, whereas second-year students are assigned to hostels at random, with students from all years living in the same hostel. This facilitates social interaction among students from all branches and batches.

Hostels have their own common room, as well as badminton and volleyball courts, and are always bustling with activity. Each hostel has its own hangout area, complete with chole-samose and chai. Many inter-hostel competitions are held throughout the year, ranging from matki-phod on Janamashtmi to the Inter Hostel Sports Tournament. Each hostel has its own mess service, which is supervised by student volunteers who work with the Mess Maharaj to decide on the menu.

Which hostel should I prefer for my first year at IIEST Shibpur?

JB
Janhvi Bakshi Posted On : March 1st, 2021
B.E. Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (2017)

To be very clear, you will not be given the option to choose your own hostel in the first year. The authority allots the hostels after entire admission process is completed. After the student reports at the respective hostel and registers his/her name, rooms are allotted.

In general, first-year boys are provided accommodation in Hostel 8, Hostel 9 and Hostel-10. On the other hand, first-year girls are given accommodation in Nivedita.

Some brief information regarding the allotment, change, and experiences in hostels are listed below:

  • After completion of the admission process, a hostel allotment certificate is issued. On presenting the certificate, you will be allotted the room.
  • Students going in groups can request a joint stay to the hostel caretaker, but the maximum size per room is limited to 4 students only.
  • Almost all hostels in IIEST Shibpur are similar to each other in respect of facilities, hostile environment, etc. The main interest lies in your way of living. It will be up to you only to spend the best years of your college life.
  • If a student wants a change in the room in the same hostel, he/she can do so by just an unofficial mutual decision with an interested student.
  • Unofficial change in a hostel can cause difficulty because the hostel superintendent performs round to check whether only allotted students are staying or not. It is impossible to change the hostel during your 1st year.
  • In the rooms, students from various regions and departments stay together in a homogeneous way. Living with unknown people has its own advantages, and sometimes students get to stay with interesting fellows.

Making friends out of an unknown crowd is needed in the first year of college. Staying with known people is not as interesting as making new friends out of roommates. Discussing different topics during a hangout, getting some private time because of different class timing, and enjoying life in the hostel rooms become a part of life in those glorious years.

How are the bathrooms in the boys' hostels at IIEST Shibpur? Are they Indian-style bathrooms?

RM
Rohan Mitra Posted On : March 2nd, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (2019)

Undoubtedly, this one of the most obvious questions that come to our mind when we are about to shift to a new place.

Bathrooms are extremely important for our day-to-day routine, so coming to your question the bathrooms in the boys’ hostels are quite good. My brother has spent one year as a hosteller in Hostel-9 named as B.Sen Hall and till now have no complaints regarding the bathrooms.

  • Do not worry about hygiene issues as they are properly cleaned on an everyday basis.
  • There are no water logging issues with bathrooms or toilets.
  • There is 24h running water and no issue of water shortages (But yes it may be difficult for you in the starting because of salty water).

Also, you can check the hostel fee structure down below:

Categories

OC/OBC/EWS

OC/OBC/EWS

52,000/- per semester

[34,500/- per semester including refundable caution money deposit of Rs. 4000 + Actual Food Bill (Rs. 17,500 to be paid in advance per semester]

SC/ST

37,000/- per semester

[19,500/- per semester including refundable caution money deposit of Rs. 4000 + Actual Food Bill (Rs. 17,500 to be paid in advance]

Yes, there are Indian-styled toilets. Some of my brother’s friends faced problems in the initial days as they were habituated to Western-styled but later on, they got adjusted to the situation and have no complaints.

How is the hostel accommodation for 1st-year M.Tech students at NIT Calicut?

NS
Nishat Suri Posted On : April 15th, 2021
M Tech from National Institute of Technology, Calicut (2017)

Hostels in NIT C for the PG students are not good. Students are allotted to the Professor's Apartment in their first tear.

  • The apartment consists of a flat which has 3 rooms, kitchen and 1 hall i.e. equivalent to a 3 BHK flat. But the number of students in each flat depends on the number of rooms each flat possesses.
  • Along with that, some students get the golden opportunity of residing in halls or even in the kitchens.
  • The toilets according to the number of students are always less and then there is always a queue outside the bathroom gate in the morning. There are a total of 14 to 16 students per flat.
  • The journey from apartments to college is like going on a trek. Now they have started a bus service.

This was the scenario of the first year and for the second year students, the scenario is a bit different. The second-year students are mostly accommodated in the MBA hostels which have toilets attached with the rooms but are far from the previous apartments where you were living in the first year.

Wi-Fi is available on the campus and works well for the new buildings and hostels. At the time of joining they will tell you that the new hostels are under construction and will be ready to move soon.

Please take a note that if possible go for the kitchen as that will be the only single room accommodation available for you as a PG student in NIT Calicut.

How are NIT Calicut hostels?

RB
Riya Banerjee Posted On : August 25th, 2021
B.Tech Electrical and Electronics Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Calicut (2018)

Few of my friends attend NIT Calicut and they were able to give me some information regarding the hostel on campus.

  • More than half of the hostel buildings appear to be old and rustic. They were built about 50 years ago but they still serve the basic required standard.
  • Apart from your own room, everything else is cleaned almost every day. You will have to clean your room on your own.
  • The first-year students are allocated rooms based on a 4 sharing system.
  • For the second-year students who reside in hostel C, one room is allocated to three students. For those of the students who reside in Mega, the rooms are allocated on a two-sharing system.
  • For third-year students residing in hostels B and C, one room is shared by three students.
  • In the fourth year, usually, single rooms are allocated but due to renovation in hostel E, some of the rooms are allocated on a two-sharing basis.
  • The food at the messes is sometimes good and sometimes bad. If you are willing to spend some extra money, you can make up for it.
  • Internet connectivity is good. On some days the download speed goes up to 12 megabytes per second.
  • From the second year onwards, there is no restriction imposed on boys regarding entry/exit time. Girls have permission to stay out till 9 pm.

NIT Calicut hostels are good in comparison to many engineering institutions in the country. You will enjoy your engineering life at the hostels there.
