Yes, hostels are provided to M.TECH students at IIT Bhubaneswar, Earlier, both these hostels were outside the main campus of IIT Bhubaneswar because the campus was still being constructed. From 2019 July onwards IIT Bhubaneswar gives accommodations to MTech students in the permanent campus in Argul. Two new hostels came up last year with the names Brahmaputra Hall of Residence and Ganga Hall of Residence. The Brahmaputra Hall of residence accommodates all the boys from MTech, MSc, and Ph.D. branches to go along with the BTech first-year boys and the Ganga Hall of Residence accommodates all the girls. Each MTech student has his/her separate rooms inside the hostel and the hostel is equipped with all the facilities ranging from washing machines for laundry to the gymnasium.
IIT Bhubaneswar hostel accommodation for girls is good. All B.Tech, M.Tech, and M.Sc students stay in Subarnarekhs Hall of Residence (SHR). The hostel has well-ventilated single rooms with a small attached balcony. Each hostel room has a cot, table, chair, and cupboard. Every floor has washrooms and restrooms on both sides. Washing machines are available on every alternate floor.
The hostel has LAN connection. There’s a basketball court inside the hostel premises. ATM, grocery store, and medical shops are within walking distance from SHR.
My sister was allotted 3rd floor as a fresher at Kailash hostel, at IIT Delhi. She was a bit disappointed at the time that there was no lift facility, and she had to carry her entire luggage all by herself.
She shared a two-seater room with two other girls because of lack of accommodation facilities. She and her roommates somehow made space for three beds and three table-chairs in that small room. The room was barely left with any space to move around. Thankfully, they got a balcony in which my sister managed to keep her cupboard. The room did not have any space for a cooler, and the hostel had a common washroom. A lack of cooler was very upsetting for her because of the harsh Delhi summers.
During her final year, got a single occupancy room on the ground floor, in the same hostel. But the room was still quite small, and she could barely fit in her clothes and shoes in the given space. The washrooms were still common.
Even though she fondly remembers her days at IIT Delhi, she is always vocal about her disappointment with the accommodation facilities of one of the premiere institutions of our country.
For M.tech students the hostels are provided as per the distance of their homes. Male candidates would get a downing hall of residence, Hostel 15 and then PG. Hostel 15 is quite spacious and you will be getting beautiful scenarios outside the hostel. The downing hall is a bit congested as more number of students are accommodated in one hall. PG hostel is similar to hostel 15 only it is bit congested but it is better than downing hall. You will get PG hostel in the second year you will get Downing hall and hostel 15 in your first year. For female candidates the accommodation is given at Sister Nivedita hall.
You will get a bed, locker, and table individually in each room. There are a total of 11 rooms on each floor. Each floor has got 2 hi speed wifi routers. Some hostels also have paid canteens. There is an RO water cooler in the mess. Overall the hostels are pretty good considering it is a government college. You will also be sharing rooms with B.tech students.
CUSAT hostel fee is pretty minimal. You need to pay around INR 300/month.
Although the fees for CUSAT hostel are nominal, the quality of living can’t be compared to other government colleges like NITs and IITs. Washrooms and other facilities aren’t at optimum standard. But if you compare it with the amount then the facilities are sufficient.
The hostels don’t have wi-fi facilities, so you will have to depend on local ISP. Also, there is no guarantee that you will get a hostel room in the 1st year itself. Many freshers have faced this and got hostel rooms, generally in 3rd or 4th year.
