What's your opinion of KGMU?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : September 26th, 2023

My sister is a student at KGMU so this answer is based on her experience only.

  • KGMU is the largest Residential Medical University in India offering a wide variety of medical courses. The entire academic framework is formed by a total of 75 departments. Additionally, KGMU also offers several clinical pieces of training including ACLS, ATLS, BLS, and ATCN to improve the clinical skills of healthcare workers.
  • The institute organizes frequent national and international conferences
  • KGMU has an unending list of achievements, some of them being; that it's the first government university to establish an exclusive Critical Care Medicine Department; it's also the first to offer an MD course in ‘Hospital Administration’ in North India. Moreover, its Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (DPMR) is the largest multidisciplinary inpatient tertiary care rehabilitation hospital in North India.
  • The research culture at KGMU is unmatched and it’s the hub of research activities for various WHO, ICMR, DBT, and UPCST projects. The hospital receives huge research funds and many of the studies are collaborated with medical schools abroad. The annual publications of a few of the faculties exceed that of any decent college’s total publications.
  • The patient flow here is huge and it caters to an almost 20-crore population of the entire north India. On average, KGMU has 10,000 patients every day. The patient inflow and the clinical exposure we get are just unparalleled.
  • KGMU has churned out many great scientists and clinicians. Many alumni hold high positions overseas including senior faculty and research posts in the USA, UK, Australia, and Gulf countries. Many of our alumni are Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awardees.
  • Every UG or PG student and faculty has access to UpToDate, Nature Research, Clinical Key, SpringerLink, JAYPEEDIGITAL, Clinical Learning, BMJ Case Reports, BMJ Best Practice, and ERMED Consortium.
  • KGMU has a separate Placement Cell consisting of several students and faculties. This cell offers academic and non-academic guidance.
  • KGMU has Foreign Exchange Programs with several universities abroad.
  • Every year, the ‘MBBS Student Research Award’ is awarded to a UG student who has published the first authored article in a national or international journal.

Overall, KGMU is an excellent medical college at par with AIIMS.

Is it possible for an average student to crack the AIIMS in Delhi?

AM
Anuja Mishra Posted On : May 27th, 2023
MBBS student at Malda Medical College and Hospital

AIIMS Delhi is targeted by genius minds from the entire country. It’s their determination to get admission to AIIMS that drives them to ace the exam. So with the right level of dedication and commitment, even average students can crack AIIMS Delhi.

Such students need to work day and night with minimal distractions. A fixed timetable should be made and duly followed if you are adamant about AIIMS Delhi. On average, they need to do 6 to 8 hours of self-study in which they study Chemistry Physics, and Biology and also revise the previous chapters.

Additionally, students who consider themselves average should join online test series so that they can become familiar with online patterns and improve their writing speed as well.

Don’t let anything demotivate you and keep striving for your future.

What is it like to be a professor at IIT Delhi?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : April 1st, 2023
lives in New Delhi

My friends' father is a newly recruited assistant professor at IIT Delhi and shared his experience of the same over tea.

Facilities

  • No extravagant salary is offered but that’s not what professors are usually after
  • A new apartment has been built to accommodate faculty
  • Every professor gets his own private space in the form of a small office

Coursework

  • Professors also have a lot of burden and each professor is expected to take one B.Tech and one M.Tech level course in 1 semester. There are around 42 lectures in a semester.
  • The professors are free to determine the pedagogy as the exam papers are set and checked by them only. Even the mode of evaluation can be altered according to their will.
  • Some professors don’t even take exams and evaluate students' performance based on class participation and term papers.

Research

  • Being a prestigious engineering institute, IIT Delhi is responsible for heaps of research work for the Government e.g Delhi Metro, BRT, Ganga Action Plan, etc.
  • The professors-industry interaction is very low
  • You get plenty of time to pursue your research work

Career prospects

Professors are of different levels: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor.

The promotion depends on the quality of your research work. Overall, the experience is a mix of research and taking classes simultaneously with a lot of free time in your hand.

Is Jadavpur University better than NIT Durgapur? If yes, which stream would be preferred?

RS
Raghav Saini Posted On : September 7th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology Durgapur (2022)

Both the colleges have their pros and cons. Your choice of college should be based on branch. I did my Mechanical from NIT Durgapur and my friend did his Mechanical from Jadavpur University. I am eligible to answer this question.

First of all, JU is much higher in ranking than NIT Durgapur. Also, the fees at JU are way more affordable. As JU is located in Kolkata, IT companies visit the campus more often. As far as core courses are concerned, the faculty for ME especially, is good at both the colleges. But core placements are much better at NIT Durgapur because PSUs visit the campus. On the other hand, JU students have to sit for GATE.

If you wish to study CS, IT or ECE, choose Jadavpur University without second thought. As far as core jobs are concerned, choose NIT Durgapur.

Why is IIIT Hyderabad underrated?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : August 3rd, 2023

There are a number of reasons why IIIT Hyderabad is underrated, especially among the Indian masses. I will be stating three main reasons

  • IIIT Hyderabad is more famous for its coding culture than its research culture. Due to its massive participation in GSOC and MNC placements, the masses fail to realize that it's a research university.  It has done excellent research in some areas of computer science.
  • IIIT Hyderabad has only two branches so it’s with CS is the main focus so it fails to attract a diverse crowd.
  • IIIT Hyderabad has failed to produce PhDs who are continuing largely in academia today

These are some of the common reasons for IIIT Hyderabad being an underrated institute today.

What is your review of the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi?

RJ
Rishit Jain Posted On : December 30th, 2022
Studied at Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi

One of the most cited B Schools in India, the Faculty of Management Studies focuses more on management education and not just on business management. The pedagogy comprises fieldwork, case studies, and feedback with a strong emphasis on concepts and theory.

According to IIFT 2022, its national rank is 4th. I will try to give an unbiased review based on the following aspects

Placements

FMS Delhi maintains a stable placement record of almost 100% over the years. Students receive high salary packages every year. The highest salary this year stood at INR 58 LPA whereas the average salary stood at INR 34.2 LPA which increased by 30.5% as compared to the previous year. Some major firms that visited the campus for recruitment are Boston Consulting Group, Nykaa, Paytm, Adobe, Adani Group, and BYJU.

Infrastructure

Although FMS offers no special hostel facilities, the DU hostels are also a choice. Around 20% of the batch go for hostels test search for PGs or flats near the campus itself. The students can avail of playground and sports facilities at Delhi University.

Faculty

The faculty is top-notch and very experienced. The teaching is not restricted to classrooms and assignments rather the faculty adopts a case-based approach. Various live projects are conducted every year. Top management executives visit the campus and hold guest lectures to provide maximum exposure to its students. Other assignments and field projects have tight deadlines and aid in the proper evaluation of the students.

So overall I think FMS is really a good choice for someone who wants to learn from the best at minimal expenses.
