How good or bad is Shri Shikshayatan college Kolkata? Will its lack of so called brand name later affect my chances to become an IAS?
Shri Shikshayatan college in Kolkata is one of the most reputed private all girls colleges. It definitely has a brand name of its own and it's quite popular in Kolkata.
Here are some facts about the college:
- It has a very well maintained infrastructure with a proper gym, basketball court, swimming pool and other facilities.
- They have a placement record of 90%, which is really good. Many reputed companies like Tech Mahindra, TCS, etc. come for placements.
- These IT firms offer students a salary package of 5-6 LPA depending on their academic record.
Your college does not matter in UPSC, only your marks in graduation matter. But Shri Shikshayatan has a popularity and familiarity among people, so it will not be a problem.
How many marks do we need to get a distinction in JNTUH?
As per the new R-09 and R-13 regulations, JNTUH students won't be getting a distinction for each and every subject. Once their 4th-year 2nd Semester results are out, a Consolidated Marks Memo(CMM) will be issued to them. This CMM includes all their semesters' subjects and respective marks. This Memo will also include the marks of the 2 excluded subjects, the marks of which will not be included in the final result.
In JNTUH, calculating your grade is quite easy. Grades are calculated on the basis of the percentage calculated on the score that you have secured in all the semesters combined to the total mark of 5250. Students are graded as follows
- Those who have secured a 69.5% and above get “First Class with Distinction”.
- Those who have secured between 59.5% and 69.5% get “First Class”.
This process continues further for subsequent percentages.
However, the procedure might be different if you are following the R-16 regulations. Under the new grading system, you can check your Subject Performance Standards like Outstanding, Excellent, etc. You can also see this SGPA which stands for Sessional/Semester Grade Point Average which can be converted in percentage format. Additionally, there will be a CGPA which is calculated as such
CGPA=(SGPA1+SGPA2+.....+of all semester)/(SCP1+SCP2+.....+of all semesters)
Here, SCP stands for Sessional/Semester Credit Points set to all subjects. Overall, students getting 6.95 and above in their CGPA/OGPA, will be given distinction along with First Class, O, A+, A, any other grade, etc.

Which college should I choose between MVJ College of Engineering and PESU South Campus?
As you did not mention the branch of your choice, I will try to answer in a general sense.
Overall, the PESU South Campus benefits from being a part of the PES group. It holds an advantage over MVJCE Bangalore in multiple areas. For example, PESU south campus has better infrastructure and placements. However, it is way more stricter than MVJCE.
If the strictness part won’t bother you, I would recommend you choose PESU south campus for your higher studies.

Which is a better IIM among IIM Indore, IIM Shillong, and IIM Ranchi?

How are the placements of dual degree programs at BITS Hyderabad?
The dual degree placements at BITS Hyderabad depend upon several factors. Some of them are-
- The combination of dual degree, and if it complements your B.E. branch. Like Math+CS is a brilliant combination, and ECO will get you a decent core placement. Similarly, Physics+EEE/EnI/Mech/ECE will be much more beneficial than a simple B.E.
But everything depends on the company that you wish to apply for. Financial companies have a cutoff, but unless you have studied Economics, they won’t care about your B.E. and MSc. degrees.
