Which is better: ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar or CSE at the BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus?

AB
Atul Bera Posted On : August 14th, 2020
M.E from Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani (2019)

When comparing colleges, both IIT Bhubaneswar and BITS Hyderabad will provide you exposure, infrastructure, and good placement opportunities. You should choose the college based on which subject you are interested in. Both subjects have their pros and cons and some of them are:

  • With the number of new startups increasing industry needs new developers and coders every month. Options are wide in Computer science and there are a lot of computer and assembly languages to be learned.
  • The curriculum is vast for ECE compared to any other stream but offers a lot of opportunities in IT as well as in core sector. You get a less competition and are also eligible for some exams which only need core stream ECE students.
  • Core companies visit IIT Bhubaneswar for recruiting ECE students, whereas same is not applicable for BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus. Some companies offer higher packages in CSE BITS Hyderabad, but the average package is still lower compared to IIT Bhubaneswar. In 2019 the average salary offered in IIT Bhubaneswar was around 11.4 LPA whereas the median salary at BITS Hyderabad was 5 LPA.
  • PSUs have started vising IITs for directly recruiting so students don’t need to clear the GATE exam.

RC
Roopsha Chatterjee Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech Computer Science Engineering, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore (2021)

IIT’s are the best engineering institutes of the country and IIT Bhubaneshwar ranks at 22 among the engineering colleges in India according to the NIRF Ranking of 2020. Since Electrical Engineering has been from the start of IIT Bhubaneswar, placements are great there. The curriculum of Electrical Engineering incorporates recent industry requirements. The placements for the early years were not that great but for the last 2 years, the situation is incrementing. In 2019 placement drive 86% of students from Electrical Engineering got placement and the average CTC offered at this IIT was 11.4 LPA. IIT’s have the best faculties in the country. The level of research work and the flexibility they provide is exceptional.

In 2019 the CSE department at NIT Nagpur had the highest number of job offers, 78. The average package was around 7 LPA which stands below IIT Bhubaneshwar.

The level of exposure and practical experience at IIT is exceptional and would help in developing extracurricular skills and potential development. So, between NIT Nagpur CSE and IIT Bhubaneswar EE, IIT Bhubaneswar EE is the better choice.
