I think the prospect of doing an MTech in NITs like NIT Trichy, Warangal, Calicut and in new IITs like IIT BBS, IIT GANDHINAGAR, IIT HYDERABAD are equally good. However, being an MTech student from IIT Bhubaneswar myself I can say IITBBS is a better choice for you.

  • IIT Bhubaneswar offers two years of full-time programs for MTech.
  • The course fee for the first year is INR 51390.
  • IIT Bhubaneswar offers excellent placement opportunities for students with an average of 89% placement and the average package offered is INR 12.25 LPA.
  • Top recruiters like Flipkart, Amazon, Google, and more took part in the placement drive.

NITs like Trichy, Warangal, and Calicut are highly reputed engineering institutions with excellent placement opportunities. The IITs you mentioned like IIT BBS, IIT Gandhinagar, and IIT Hyderabad are newly established and have yet to reach the level of older IITs. Specifically for Masters, you should target a better college.

Those interested in higher education like Ph.D. or Postdoctoral should likely get admitted to IITs as IITs are a brand name and have global recognition. For a Ph.D., foreign universities don’t mind if it’s a new or old IIT you are affiliated with as long as you have the IIT tag attached to your profile. Ph.D. is concerned. Even if you try off-campus for jobs you can easily get it based on your IIT tag.

In all, for job opportunities, NITs are the better choice while for higher education, IITs are the best for you.
