Which is better Pune University or Mumbai University?

AB
Advaith Bhaskar Posted On : March 30th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

Both Pune University and Mumbai University are well-esteemed institutions in India imparting superior quality education. However, the one that is suitable for you depends on your individual needs and preferences. Some factors that are usually considered are location, campus culture, and research opportunities. It's advisable to research both universities and visit them in person if possible to make a wise decision.

In my opinion, however, Pune University has a much higher preference rate than Mumbai university. This is because of the following factors:

  • Pune University has a better and well-structured curriculum in comparison to Mumbai University, especially in Engineering.
  • The academic rules are more strict at Pune University and the number of backlogs allowed is also less than at Mumbai University thus maintaining the quality of Education.
  • The exams are conducted consequently and little time is given for preparation. This makes it more challenging for the students and prepares them well for the future.

If you genuinely want to understand concepts and create amazing memories along with a lot of struggles, Pune University is for you. If you are looking for a laid-back campus life and a calm learning environment, then Mumbai University is best for you.

Which among BIT Mesra and NIT Rourkela is better?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 9th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

One of my friends is a student of BIT Mesra and yet claims that joining NIT Rourkela would have been a better decision. He regrets choosing BIT Mesra because

  • Very adamant and unapproachable administration that does not pay heed to students' complaints.
  • The campus has poor infrastructural facilities and students constantly face issues related to water, electricity, and network
  • The faculty pool comprises only a handful of qualified professors and most of them are not interested in teaching.
  • The institute has imposed illogical restrictions that affect the quality of campus life largely.
  • The institute charges exorbitantly high fees making it difficult for financially weak students to join.

Overall, I will say BIT Mesra offers a good academic environment but that is it. It lacks a vibrant college life so if you are looking for one, choose NIT Rourkela!

How is the placement in NIT Surathkal for an M.Tech in mechanical engineering?

SK
Shruti Karmakar Posted On : July 17th, 2021
Studied at NIT Surathkal (2019)

You should not be expecting placements for an M.Tech from NIT Surathkal. The scenario is quite different for the CS/IT background students.

  • Talking about the mechanical department, it is great.
  • The professors are very well-read and good at their job.
  • You will have opportunities to go for research.
  • You can use the NITian tag to find an internship but you need to put in your own efforts.
  • If you do well at the internship, you will have a chance of getting a pre-placement offer.
Categories M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering at NIT Surathkal
Course Fee 1.29 lakhs
Course Duration 2 years
Highest CTC 14-15 LPA
Average CTC 7 LPA

The placement is really good in NIT Surathkal. Many top companies participate in the placement program. These companies include Microsoft, Google, Tech Mahindra, IBM, TCS, Capgemini, Accenture, Wipro, Mindtree, Infosys, etc.

Is MISB Bocconi (SDA Bocconi) worth investing 25 lakh rupees and 2 years of your time?

RV
Ritu Varma Posted On : July 7th, 2021
IMB from SDA Bocconi Asia Center (2020)

My cousin studies at SDA Bocconi Asia Center. It was known as MISB Bocconi earlier and is the pan Asia centre of SDA Bocconi of Milan. It is also triple-accredited by AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA. With all these tags to its name, you will have a world-class faculty that teaches at the Milan campus as well. This is how the program looks like-

  • If you choose to go for the program then you'll receive a Masters Diploma in International Business when your 22-month course completes, and the degree will be conferred by SDA Bocconi, Milan.
  • Once you decide on the course, you must also decide on the specialization.
  • You will also be a part of a mandatory 'stipulated exchange semester' during the duration of the course.
  • In 2020, the Institute saw 100% placement and the average package rose to INR 11.21 LPA.
  • There is a mandatory CSR internship where you get to volunteer with an NGO for 2 weeks

The college has seen visits from the following companies in the past: AICL Communications, Baxter, Bostik, Catenon Worldwide, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, H&M, ICICI Securities, Kims Global, Piaggio, TCS, Universal Consulting, Vodafone India, ZS Associates, Nykka, Soulflower etc.

If your profile is strong, you'd receive a scholarship as well which will save you from spending over INR 25 lakhs for a 22-month program. However, even if you can spend that much, go ahead because you won't be disappointed.

How much will a low grad score affect summer and final placements in NITIE (PGDIM), SJMSOM IIT B, and XLRI BM?

JM
Jyoti Mishra Posted On : June 9th, 2021
Studied PGDBM Marketing & Operations Management, Xavier School of Management (2019)

My cousin is an alumnus of NITIE and has spent two years in the institute as a student. His opinion is based on professional experience and may not be true for summer and final placements at SJMSOM and XLRI.

  • Companies consider students with good grades as an equivalent proxy to dedication at the workplace, and the ability of the students to analyze critically and intensively.
  • The merit required for the consideration is open to question and/or debate. Marks obtained in high school and graduation usually serve as filter criteria for filtering out worthy students from hundreds of them.
  • Experience in work in domain and years or the lack of it and the college you completed your undergraduate degree from matter in a few cases.
  • It is wrong to say that one of these matters will nullify and get you a place in the shortlist for the subsequent selection rounds.

A counter-argument can turn up claiming that the companies do not look at the scores. It is up to the students concerned to follow this notion.

How is the internship (after MBBS) at VMMC Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 26th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

The internship scenario at VMMC is quite disappointing and tiring. The number of patients is so huge in all the departments and interns have to work more than required to get the work done. Their focus is not to learn new procedures but to complete the work and go. Here is the department-wise scenario

  • Pediatrics : In this department, interns are required to find all the case sheets(files) and reports and arrange them before the rounds begin. They are also responsible for dextrose monitoring and discharges. If you are posted in labor, you will have to ensure the baby’s safety.
  • Surgery : Here, interns are required to do sampling, dressing, and discharges. In emergency minor OT, you will have to I n D, suturing, catheterization, and such. Interns also go to OT to watch the surgeries. Postgraduate students may let you do procedures like hydrocele on minor OT days.
  • Medicine : The patient load varies from season to season. In dengue season, it’s maximum and you will always be busy doing sampling and cannulation.
  • OBC : Here you are responsible for sampling, cannulation, catheterization, and NST. You can also take deliveries in the labor room.
  • Orthopedic : During emergency days you will be busy with cast and traction. You might also have to do skeletal traction.
  • For other departments like PSM, ENT, Derma, Optha, and Casualty, the workload is comparatively less so you get a lot of free time.

Overall, through the internships, you will get confident at least in minor tasks, and gain a lot of hands-on experience.

Should I take AIIMS Nagpur or any state medical college?

AB
Advaith Bhaskar Posted On : June 4th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

I would always recommend people to go for new AIIMS than old state colleges because the old colleges are functioning with their full-fledged potential and won’t witness much changes or growth in the near future. The new AIIMS on the other hand have great potential and even within a short period of time have almost reached the same level as these state colleges. Now imagine the potential they hold in the years to come. The new AIIMS have a top-notch infrastructure and very dynamic faculties. If this wasn’t enough to convince you to look at the following points to understand further

  • Student-Teacher Ratio: The student-teacher ratio is much less in any AIIMS Institution compared to any other state medical college. This ensures better allocation of resources and attention to each student.
  • Faculty: Owing to the high pay offered by AIIMS, most elite faculties prefer AIIMS to other state colleges.
  • Facilities: Being completely funded by the central government, AIIMS has superior facilities in every aspect; hostels, laboratories, hospitals, libraries, sports, and even mess.
  • Hostel: Sparing a few top medical colleges and some other newly established govt colleges, the hostels' conditions for medical colleges are horrible. However, AIIMS provides the most comfortable hostel life one could ask for with minimal costs. The best part is every student getting single rooms from the first year itself
  • Student Diversity— AIIMS has 100% AIQ seats in AIIMS while state colleges have only 15%. So, AIIMS has a much more diverse student body.
  • Latest technology and Expensive equipment: AIIMS, especially the newly established ones have the most modern instruments and lab facilities.
  • Research Work— AIIMS always focuses on research even at the UG level while other medical colleges don’t give much importance to research work.
  • Patient Load: It’s completely a misconception that new AIIMS don’t have patient load like other colleges. The patient load, because of India’s huge population is almost equal everywhere.

Ultimately, it’s your learning that matters and not whether you belong to AIIMS Delhi or from the lowest-ranked college in a state.

How is BITS Pilani, Goa campus compared to the top IITs?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : August 5th, 2023

BITS Pilani is far better when compared with other top IITs, but of course, the brand value has more demand in the current scenario, and IIT offers more effective placement support than BITS. Here are some points are given below to get more clarity about BITS Pilani, Goa

Funding – IITs are rapidly advancing institutes in India, and they are centrally funded for scientific research and lab equipment. But BITS Pilani is not bad for funding, they have a decent funding system

Start-Ups- Both IITS and BITS are equally good at start-up culture. BITS Pilani is growing and trying to meet with other IITs, which is actually good for the students

Placements – Since IITs are more approachable and attractive to companies, they have a relatively good placement status when compared with BITS. Most of the students are satisfied with the package. BITS, Goa, has a better placement for the CSE branch than other branches

Academics – Both institutes are good at academics, and the departments are rich with renowned scholars.

Hostel – BITS, Goa, offers an incredible campus life to the students. The fee structure is comparatively cheaper and provides good meals for the students.

In what order would you rank MAMC, KGMU, AFMC, IMS-BHU, CMC & Grant Medical College?

AG
Akriti Gupta Posted On : September 25th, 2023
lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

I will try to answer your query and provide some additional information.

After the top most colleges- AIIMS, PGI, JIPMER, NIMHANS and SGPGI, these are the colleges you should try for- Medical colleges in Delhi are the best choice. Out of these, MAMC is the most desirable. It is followed by VMMC, LHMC and UCMS. Then come the medical colleges in Mumbai. KEM is a top medical college, followed by Sion and Grant. Colleges of Kerala and Madras are at par with one another. But Madras Medical College is the best among these. AFMC and CMC Vellore are great for patients, but not so much for the students.

Thus, MAMC is a great choice. I do not possess much knowledge of KGMU and IMS BHU, so I haven’t talked about them.
