Should I pursue IT at PICT or CSE at IIIT-Pune (Chakan)?
I have a friend at IIIT Pune. I only heard good things about the institute from him. Here are some facts about IT at PICT and CSE at IIIT-Pune, which may help you to decide.
Teachers:
- All of the faculties of IIIT-Pune are Ph.D. holders from institutes like IIT KGP, NITs, and foreign universities.
- Most of the faculties of PICT are M.Tech or still pursuing their PhDs.
Crowd:
- Instead of going home during vacations, students attend Android and Web development workshops.
- Faculties encourage students to take up projects and internships from the first semester.
Degree:
- Students get B.Tech in IIIT-Pune as compared to a B.E. at PICT.
- IIIT-Pune's curriculum doesn't include subjects like Civil, Engineering Drawing, Mechanics, Mechanical, Chemistry which are of no use in the course of CSE.
Institute of National Importance:
- IIIT-Pune is like all the IITs, NITs, IIITs which is an Institute of National Importance( INI) which leads to a lot of Government funds and monetary support.
- Students who did their 12th from the MP board or others can receive a full tuition fee waiver for 4 years of their B. Tech since IIIT Pune is an INI.
Sports and Clubs:
- Any student can start a club of their own if they have a passion for something at IIIT-Pune.
- IIIT- Pune bagged 5 medals in IIT- BHU’s Annual Sports Fest Spardha and continues to receive honors in other sports events as well.
Attendance and Holidays:
- PICT has minimum attendance criteria of 75% and PICT imposes an 80% attendance.
- PICT has 9 days winter break and 15 days summer break, so if you are not a local then you will not get to see much of your family.
- At IIIT-Pune students get 1 month of Winter Break and about 2.5 months of Summer Break.
Exposure and Brand:
- IIIT-Pune students usually go for two industrial visits to Infosys and Tech Mahindra.
- IIIT is a brand as there are a total of 23 IIITs in India and are recognized throughout the country and overseas.
- IIIT-Pune also has inter-IIT sports and technical fests every year where all the IIITs across the country take part.
Students think that PICT is old so it’s better and yes it’s been around for 20 years since PICT’s inception and it has developed whereas IIIT-Pune is just 2 years old and has the potential for tremendous growth.
Which is better: VIT Vellore or BIT Sindri?
I am a B.Tech CSE student at VIT Vellore, while my elder brother studies at BIT Sindri. Therefore, I can offer a more unbiased insight into why I chose VIT Vellore for my engineering studies-
- Infrastructure- Both the institutions have a huge campus, but in terms of infrastructure, VIT Vellore is better. Its labs are modern and well equipped, whereas BIT’s labs are old and require maintenance.
- Placements- VIT delivers better packages. Moreover, it is a better choice for IT placements. On the other hand, BIT Sindri delivers better core placements with companies like Tata Steel, Tata Hitachi and JSW visiting the departments for recruitments.
- Exposure- VIT offers really good exposure to its students in the form of internships, student exchange programs and training. At BIT Sindri, internship offers are a rare phenomenon. Tata Steel does offer PPOs to BIT students.
- Faculty- The faculty at VIT is more experienced and qualified.
The yearly B.Tech course fee at VIT Vellore is approx. INR 2 lakhs, while that in BIT Sindri is approx. INR 20,000. But VIT offers much better infrastructural facilities and exposure to make up for the huge fee difference.
Due to these reasons, my brother suggested that I pursue my B.Tech CSE at VIT Vellore instead of BIT Sindri.
PES University vs Manipal University main campus, which is the better college?

Should I go to BITS Pilani or Goa?
It depends on your preferences and interests; the key points listed below might help you get more clarification about both institutes
Branch – If you are into the software field, then choose Goa, which has a fantastic department in Computer Science and Electronics
Growth and Development – If you are a person who gives more importance to personal growth and strength, then BITS Pilani is for you. This institute has a fantastic student culture and gives more prominence to social interactions, which will definitely provide magnificent experiences and incredible college life.
Placement – BITS Pilani is comparatively more popular here than in Goa. Most of the students got placements from recruiters with decent salary packages.
So, it is safer to choose BITS Pilani than BITS Goa.
How prestigious is JBIMS as a college when we look at all of the India rankings? It doesn’t have very good ranks when I Google the best MBA colleges in India. Is NMIMS better than JBIMS?
JBIMS' overall ranking on Google is impacted by its infrastructure, as the current building is a 1965 construction. However, the construction of a new state-of-the-art facility at Kalina is underway, which will improve JBIMS' ranking in terms of infrastructure.
In terms of return on investment, JBIMS stands out as you pay only 2 lakhs for the entire course and receive an average placement package of 18 LPA. This is a better return than many other top B-Schools, including some IIMs.
JBIMS boasts a strong alumni network, industry-expert faculty, and an ideal location, which are all factors that contribute to its success.
When comparing JBIMS to NMIMS, it can be said that JBIMS is a better choice, with a lower fee structure, a better return on investment, a strong alumni network, and a more experienced faculty. Additionally, JBIMS has a smaller batch size of 120 students, which makes it easier for the college to place its students in top companies.
Has anyone left JBIMS for FMS? If yes, then why?
I have seen many people forgo offers from MDI, JBIMS, and even IIM Bangalore just for FMS Delhi. There are a number of reasons pertaining to why people make this decision. Some have been listed below
- Brand: FMS is one of the oldest MBA colleges and boasts a rich legacy and elaborate alumni base. It has given birth to many Managerial talents over the last decades and is a brand in itself. No doubt JBIMS is a good college but it cannot be compared with the brand name of FMS.
- Location: FMS boasts of a good locational advantage being situated in the heart of the country, Delhi. You can enjoy a lifestyle very similar to that of DU. Also, the budding startups and MNCs in nearby industrial areas like Gurgaon and Noida consider FMS the first choice for recruitment.
- Fees: The most distinguishing feature of FMS is its highly affordable fees in contrast to the hefty fees of other top B Schools. The fees are almost 1/10th of any other top B School while the placements are as good or even better than these B Schools thereby ensuring a spectacular ROI.
So your first choice has to be FMS unless you are willing to go for the Finance sector. In that case, JBIMS being situated in the Finance capital is a much better choice.
Which is better among Thapar, NIT Jalandhar and PEC University, Chandigarh?
Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology has been ranked 51st overall and 29th for BTech by NIRF 2020. It has collaborations with Trinity College, Dublin and The University of Waterloo.
NIT Jalandhar offers courses like BTech, MTech, MSc, PhD, and PGDM programs in Management and Engineering. It is ranked 52nd for BTech by NIRF 2020.
PEC University is one the pioneer engineering colleges in Punjab. It is ranked 68th for BTech by NIRF 2020. It is a deemed university approved by AICTE and affiliated to Punjab University.
Admission Details
- Students should at least have 70-75% in their 10+2 qualifying exam.
- Students opting for MBA will have to go through a Group Discussion and Personal Interview Session.
- NIT Jalandhar will conduct a JoSAA counselling session.
- Students pursuing a PhD should have a post graduation degree from a relevant board.
- TIET offers 75 scholarships for deserving students.

NIT Jalandhar
- The faculty members of NIT Jalandhar are over 200, most of them being PhD holders.
- There are 10 hostels for boys and 3 for girls.
- They have all necessary facilities like a post office, shopping centre, banks, seminar hall, gym, computer centre and library.
TIET
- Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology is known to be one of the oldest and finest educational institutes of India.
- They have 307 highly qualified faculty members.
- They provide all the necessary facilities like library, hostels and medical facilities.
PEC University
- The university has a library consisting of 1,19,830 volumes of books including science, technology, engineering, management, social sciences, IT and many more.
- They have a total of 6 hostels 4 being boys hostel and 2 girls hostels.
- PEC University provides Medical Facility, Graduate Research Project Award and has a Computer Center.
Students can choose from any of the above mentioned colleges depending on their preferences of subject or choice of course, affordability, location, appropriate facilities and much more. NIT Jalandhar and PEC University have lower course fees. If affordability is not your primary concern you can also go for TIET. TIET and NIT Jalandhar has better placement records than PEC University but they all offer more or less the same salary packages which can range from 6-18 LPA.
MNNIT is much more famous than IIIT Allahabad. None of my relatives have heard of IIIT Allahabad. Should I join MNNIT IT instead of IT at IIIT A just because it's not so famous and less enjoyable?
An institute should not be judged according to its popularity. Among the above two options, IT in IIIT Allahabad is a much better choice, considering the infrastructure, faculty, and overall environment in IIIT Allahabad. The table below gives a brief level of comparison among the two institutes.

Key Highlights - IIIT Allahabad:
- IIIT Allahabad has the modern-day infrastructure, along with top-notch faculty and a great learning environment for IT.
- The coding culture in IIIT Allahabad is quite well established and is evident from the ranks in different coding competitions and hackathons.
Considering all the above factors and the placement scenario of IT in IIIT Allahabad, it is definitely a better choice than MNNIT. Even being a newer institute, IIIT Allahabad should always be preferred over MNNIT.
Which one is better: CSE in Kiet Ghaziabad or IT in JSS Noida?
According to my experience as a former CSE student at KIET, choosing KIET over JSS Noida will be no doubt a good choice. You’ll also get the best infrastructure and faculty in the CSE branch.
There are considerably more opportunities here to do something unique in your field. I have seen my seniors getting placed at reputed companies like Amazon, Flipkart, Adobe, Accenture, and Infosys, to name just a few. Just last year, i.e. 2023, the highest package that they secured was INR 48.89 LPA. Moreover, about 93.98% of my seniors were successfully placed.
Which is the best institute for an MBA:Welingkar or NMIMS?
NMIMS Mumbai is better than Welingkar in terms of academics, faculty, placements, and campus life. It also has a better brand value. NMIMS placement 2022 ended with an average CTC of INR 23.07 LPA. While the highest CTC received by the students was INR 57.65 LPA. NMIMS offers great job profiles for the Marketing specialization.
