Is competitive coding the only key to survive in IIIT Hyderabad?

AC
Anupama Chauhan Posted On : July 28th, 2023
studied at International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad

The preconceived notion that competitive programming or CP is the only way you can survive in a coding-driven institute like IIIT Hyderabad is actually not true. The reason most people believe this is because the media covers only the achievements of CP and ICPC. There isn’t much publicity about the research culture here which is a big reason research enthusiasts consider this institute a good option.

You will be surprised to know that on average, only 5% of UG students do CP regularly, outside of the regular CP-type programming assignments in the first year. If by survival you mean getting noticed then yes, not doing CP may not get you famous here. But that does not mean you cannot survive here.

The ones who aren’t into CP, are busy maintaining systems that actually help in making our lives easier. They work on open-source libraries from all around the world and conduct qualitative research. They publish papers in diverse fields like security, linguistics, vision, robotics, etc

If you are a student here who isn’t interested in either academics or research, you can still survive through minimal efforts.

Why is NSIT the worst engineering college in Delhi?

SA
Simran Arora Posted On : August 21st, 2023
Studied CS from NSIT (2019)

It's quite subjective to claim NSUT is the worst engineering college as it has churned out a few successful engineers too. The only people who find it below average and worst are those who couldn't make it to the prestigious institution despite being rich because it does accept any kind of bribes. I have many friends in the institute that say the college gave them wings to fly and discover their passions. So the people nitpicking on the colleges worth are the ones that did not utilize the available resources or took part in any kind of activity.

Rather than criticizing an institute, I suggest it's better to take action and start working on yourself because you cannot change the institute but can change yourself drastically for the better.

So, NSUT is definitely not the worst engineering college in Delhi as it has given wings to many engineering students who are pursuing successful careers today. best engineering college in India and almost a religion for many like me.

What is the procedure to change the branch after first year in IET Lucknow?

RB
Riya Bera Posted On : August 5th, 2021
Studied at Calcutta University (2019)

One of the most important steps to change your branch would be scoring the highest in your first-year end semester.

  • Before 2020, if you were able to obtain 77% or above then you would definitely have had a chance to change your branch to a better branch such as CS.
  • Usually, students switched their branches from EI and Chemical to Computer Science, Mechanical or Electrical.
  • But now if your score is above 8.5 SGPA at the end of your first semester then you are highly likely to gain the opportunity of changing your branch. If a seat is empty for the category of your preferred branch.
  • If you are the kind of student who studies every day with dedication and does not procrastinate until the exam comes, then it would be easy for you to score above 8.5 in your first year.

Although branch change after the first year hardly takes place you can always give it a try and take a step closer to your goal.

Is it true that IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta CVs are highly exaggerated by the students despite the rigorous verification to make them sound impactful?

Risk Management from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (2019)

No, IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta CVs aren’t highly exaggerated. The right terms will be well-structured and strategically marketed

As mentioned, the CV verification process is rigorous and the institute only accepts poofs in certain specific formats from authorized people or organizations. So, there is no way anyone can exaggerate any facts. Students of these institutes mention their work and achievements in a way that catches the eye of the recruiters. That is the only difference.

How has your life changed since graduating from BITS Pilani?

SD
Shruti Dasgupta Posted On : July 3rd, 2023
Student at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

Here are a few changes my sister felt since she graduated from BITS Pilani

  • She has got a mindset and brain superior to normal people and often finds it difficult to talk to them. So she finds it difficult to stay humble with all the knowledge she has.
  • Even after leaving BITS, she hasn’t lost her passion for learning and studying. While she was working she finished 6 MOOC courses between the time she left Pilani and joined her master's program.
  • She has stopped feeling insecure at all as she trusts her college and her hard work completely in shaping her career.
  • She has started working on many side projects
  • She gave more importance to education and attended classes regularly in her Masters

Lastly, she no more questions the credibility of BITS Pilani and its alumni.

How are roommates allotted in IIT Kanpur? Is it according to JEE ranks?

VS
Vijay Sarnaik Posted On : April 19th, 2023
Studied at IIT Kanpur

No, IIT Kanpur does not have a cruel policy of allotting roommates and rooms on the basis of JEE ranks. You cannot assign someone a room on the basis of his achievements. This is pure discrimination and this practice should be discontinued.

The only 2 institutes that follow this extreme policy are IIT and IIT BHU. The purpose of this is to ensure better living standards and ultimately better outputs from the treasures of the Institute.

In IIT Kanpur rooms and roommates are allotted randomly and you can expect almost anyone as your roommate. Your roommates play a major role in influencing your grades, examinations, and social life.

It’s good to make new friends and socialize, but remember life at IIT Kanpur is very rigorous and not a single moment should be wasted on useless activities.

How is the executive MBA program in IIM Kozhikode?

YA
Yash Agarwal Posted On : May 20th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode

Here are a few pros and cons of the IIM Kozhikode Executive MBA program that will give you a general idea about the program.

Pros:

  • Excellent Curriculum at par with PGP course
  • The average work experience is 10+ years.
  • There is great interaction and networking among peers
  • You can also avail the opportunity to attend the offline sessions at the Kochi campus during weekdays.
  • The faculty is the same as that of PGP
  • Students also get the benefit of alumni status of IIM Kozhikode
  • Proper Executive MBA Degree with nothing related to the online mode mentioned.

Cons:

  • The biggest con of this program is the absence of placements
  • The fees of this program is as high as that of regular MBA from baby IIMs
  • Timespro has also its own interactive learning EPGP course so a number of people enrolling in the course become almost 500 from both.
  • You cannot expect huge packages just because of the IIM Kozhikode tag. The usual hike one can expect is 20% —25% on current base pay.
  • You won’t be considered for senior roles unless you have good work experience

So make a wise decision after weighing the above pros and cons.

RS
Riya Sharma Posted On : September 13th, 2021
Civil Engineering at NIT Calicut (2020)

There is no particular dress code for the classes. However, there are other necessities every student has to follow otherwise. The regulations include wearing shirts and denim for the labs of the electrical department.

Girls of the class are asked to go by the same rule, including rolling their hair up and wearing recommended shoes. While working in labs, lab coats are a must.

In any case whatsoever, since it is an educational premise, every student is generally asked not to wear dresses that can be deemed inappropriate.

How much is a CGPA of 6.5 (at IIT Kharagpur) in percentage format? Is there any formula?

SG
Senjuti Gupta Posted On : March 22nd, 2023
studied at IIT Kgp

IIT Kharagpur has adopted a notional factor of 10 for CGPA to Percent conversion.

This basically means that

Your % = Your C.G.P.A. * 10

Whenever you are required to provide proof of your marks to a company, you can submit your grade sheet. A provisional grade sheet is provided by the institute only on request and after payment of the requisite fee - INR 25

So, your CGPA of 6.5 can be converted into 65 percent.
