What's best for me: LNMIIT (CSE), IIEST Shibpur (IT), Bits Hyd (MSc Bio), or IIITB (ECE)?

AG
Akriti Gupta Posted On : May 4th, 2023
lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

If you're considering pursuing a Master of Science (MSc) in Biology at BITS Hyderabad, you may be wondering about your options for changing your specialization to computer science (CS) later on. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • BITS Hyderabad is known for its strong programs in both biology and computer science. While it's important to choose a program that aligns with your interests and career goals, attending a reputable institution can also be an advantage when it comes to job opportunities and networking.
  • To switch from the MSc in Biology program to CS at BITS Hyderabad, you'll need to be in the top 40 students out of a batch of 160 in your first year. This may sound challenging, but it's definitely achievable with hard work and dedication.
  • Maintaining a good CGPA (cumulative grade point average) in your first year will be crucial for your chances of transferring to the CS program. Aim for a CGPA of around 7.5-8.5 to increase your chances of being among the top 40 students.
  • It's important to note that transferring to the CS program may not be an easy or guaranteed process. You'll need to meet certain academic criteria and compete with other students for a limited number of spots. However, if you're passionate about computer science and willing to put in the effort, it could be a worthwhile pursuit.
  • Before committing to the MSc in Biology program at BITS Hyderabad, make sure to research the program's curriculum and faculty to ensure it aligns with your interests and career goals. Talk to current students and alumni to get a sense of their experiences in the program and how it has helped them in their careers.

Ultimately, the decision to pursue an MSc in Biology at BITS Hyderabad with the goal of switching to CS after the first year is a personal one that depends on your individual circumstances and goals yet it is the best option that you should choose over LNMIIT (CSE), IIEST Shibpur (IT), and IIITB (ECE). While it may be a challenging process, it could also be a rewarding and fulfilling journey for those who are passionate about computer science and willing to work hard to achieve their goals.

Which is better among IIEST Shibpur and HBTU Kanpur?

SB
Sourav Bhattacharjee Posted On : September 25th, 2020
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (IIEST) (Graduated 2019)

IIEST scores more than HBTU Kanpur according to the parameters mentioned below. Both colleges have a rich endowment. But, IIEST stands separately for spreading the entire IIT structure in India. IIEST has a more vibrant and strong Alumni base, but few institutes of India also rival it.

Placement:

  • IIEST Shibpur invited 90 reputed companies in the year 2020. 311 students got placed with the highest salary package of INR 41 LPA and an average package of 6 LPA.

  • HBTU Kanpur invited 26 major companies including Microsoft, Reliance, Samsung, IBM, etc that offered the highest salary package of 13 LPA and an average package of 4.2 LPA.

Eligibility:

IIEST Shibpur: The eligibility criteria under different courses for IIEST Shibpur is listed below.

  • B.Tech: 10+2 with 75% marks with a valid score in JEE Main

  • M.Tech: Pass in Graduation with a valid score in GATE

  • MBA: Pass in Graduation with a valid score CAT

HBTU Kanpur: The eligibility criteria under different courses for HBTU, Kanpur is listed below

  • B.Tech: 10+2 with 75% marks with a valid score in JEE Main

  • M.Tech: Pass in Graduation with a valid score in GATE

  • MBA: Pass in Graduation with a valid score CAT

Both the colleges accept a creamy layer of students with respective state exams and top-notch performers in their respective States. Both colleges have failed in doing so in recent years. The identity crisis could be partly blamed, but even academically it has failed in overriding top NIT and other colleges.

Which Canadian university is better for a foundation course, Ryerson University, University of Manitoba or Dalhousie University?

AD
Angie Dawson Posted On : February 3rd, 2021
MLIS from Dalhousie University

While all these have their own perks, it's a given to prefer Dalhousie over Ryerson and Manitoba. QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2020 has ranked only Dalhousie University at #301-500. Ryerson is your best choice if you're planning to live in a big city- while the others are situated in small towns. Still, all three have pretty similar foundation courses and ultimately depends on how seriously you take it.

Ryerson University is known for many leading programs like Journalism, Sports Media, Arts, Communication and Design, Community Services, Engineering, and Business; there are some specialised programs only for international students with the Ryerson ESL Foundation Program. It has 62 undergraduate programs and 49 minor technical programs.

The University of Manitoba is one of the oldest medical-doctoral research universities known for its professional schools like law, engineering, business, medicine, dentistry, architecture which has a total of 108 different degrees, diplomas, and certificates.

Dalhousie University is known for many leading programs like Arts & Humanities, Clinical, pre-clinical & health, Engineering & Technology, Life sciences, Physical sciences, Social sciences, and Business & Economics. It has 120 undergraduate programs, and 80+ postgraduate and doctorate programs.Ryerson University has been ranked #601-800, the University of Manitoba has been ranked #351-400, and Dalhousie University has been ranked #251-300 by The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021.

All these three universities have a good placement with 86.7% Employment rate of Ryerson University, 83% for the University of Manitoba, and 84% for Dalhousie University.
