If I want to go into Techno India or the Heritage Institute of Technology of West Bengal through the management quota then how much money may I be asked to pay?

TD

Completed B.Tech in Computer Science,Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College in 2020

Taking donation money depends on how many seats are available. The donation fee will be high for the streams that have a lot of demand.

However, if there are seats that are vacant, you can try spot counseling and you will not be charged at all for this except for the fee required for admission.

The money that you might be asked to pay can vary depending on the financial situation of the candidates. Getting in touch with the management facility will help you in getting a clear idea. Keep in mind, however, that people who opted for the management quota had to pay huge amounts of money.

Almost 10% of the seats were kept aside for management quota candidates and they are given on the basis of ‘first come first’. Some people got admitted without paying anything at all except for the admission fee and some had to pay huge amounts of money to get in.

Another thing about getting admission through quota is you may lag behind your peers. Even if you do get admission, a lot depends on you as well.

Is an integrated MSc in mathematics and computing in BIT Mesra a good option?

DG
Deepmoy Ganguly Posted On : August 9th, 2023
studied at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra

Maths and Computing is considered one of the best branches after CS in IITs today. The BIT tag is also quite popular among engineering aspirants so many enthusiasts of Math and CS  go for this branch to avail the opportunities this field offers. From what I have heard, the syllabus is at par with industry needs and the faculty pool is very passionate and approachable.

Mathematics is an indispensable part of Computer Science whether it’s research in data science or development. you need to be proficient in math. This course is designed to bridge the gap between the two which it purposely does, opening gates of innumerable opportunities.

To make the most of this branch, start concentrating on Core Mathematics and programming/DS/competitive programming right from the first year. Start working on a project by the end of the first year and go for an internship in the software domain. By the end of the 4th year, you will be proficient in most CS skills making it possible for you to sit for maximum placements.

So, taking IMSC in Mathematics and Computing at BIT Mesra will be a good decision if you stop comparing your branch with others. The only drawback is that it is not a technical degree but that does not matter in the long run.

What is the quality of students who take up CSE in KIIT?

A
Admin Posted On : July 26th, 2023

I am a CSE student at KIIT. In my batch, there is a 10-pointer as well as a 7.5-pointer. I myself scored 9.31 in my first sem. I scored 85% in AISSCE but there are also students in my class who scored above 90%.

During our KIIT counseling, we were to be allotted our branches based on our ranks in the KIITEE. CSE seats were filled quickly. This is because the first preference of students is CSE, then EE, and then come the other branches like Mechanical, Civil, and others. The best rank holders in KIITEE choose the CSE branch.

CSE students at KIIT are not only good at their studies, but they are also very active in extracurriculars. The CSE department hosts great freshers’ parties and CSE has a good share of coordinators in fests and other events.

Overall, CSE students in KIIT are hardworking individuals who perform well not only in studies but also in other extracurricular activities.

Is coming into BITS Pilani Goa Hyderabad campus worth it?

NM
Nayasha Mishra Posted On : July 3rd, 2023
Studied at BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus (2019)

Yes, it’s definitely worth coming to BITS Goa and Hyderabad campuses for your education. Anyone coming from a tier-3 college will find the stark difference with respect to

  • Faculty
  • Course Structure
  • Relative Grading
  • Assignments
  • Internship opportunities
  • Crowd
  • Placements

In case you fail to get into the old IITs, your first option should be BITS Pilani. It’s better than NITs and new IITs. BITS Pilani is known for its superior crowd quality owing to its no-reservation policy. Another significant aspect that makes BITS Pilani worth it is the Practice School program wherein you will get a summer and last semester internship based on your CGPA without an interview.

So, BITS Pilani is definitely worth it!

Some colleges like ISB, BITS Pilani, XLRI, SPJAIN, etc. do not have a caste-based reservation. Is it not mandatory for all colleges in India?

PD
Pratim Dasgupta Posted On : April 22nd, 2023
PGDM HRM, Xavier School of Management

Caste-based reservations in higher education institutions are mandated by the Constitution of India, specifically under Articles 15(4) and 16(4). These articles allow for the reservation of seats in educational institutions for students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs), who have historically been marginalized and disadvantaged in Indian society.

However, it's important to note that private institutions, such as ISB, BITS Pilani, XLRI, SPJAIN, etc., are not required to provide caste-based reservations. These institutions have the autonomy to decide their own admission policies, including the reservation policies they choose to implement.

In recent years, there has been some debate about whether or not private institutions should also be required to provide caste-based reservation, but no concrete policy changes have been made at the national level as of yet. Some states, such as Maharashtra, have mandated caste-based reservations in private educational institutions through state-level policies, but this is not yet a nationwide trend.

It's worth noting that even private institutions that don't have caste-based reservations may still have other forms of affirmative action policies or scholarships for disadvantaged students, including those from SC/ST/OBC backgrounds. Ultimately, the admission policies of each institution will depend on their individual values and priorities.

Why is IIT Madras not popular like IIT Bombay/Delhi, though Chennai is a metropolitan city?

PR
Paridhi Rathi Posted On : March 16th, 2023
Master's in Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) (Graduated 2017)

Here are some points to consider if you're thinking why IIT Madras is not popular like IIT Bombay/Delhi, though Chennai is a metropolitan city:

  • IIT Madras is located in Adyar, which is easily accessible from the airport and Chennai Central and Egmore railway stations.
  • Chennai has plenty of sightseeing options, particularly its beaches, like Marina and Elliott, as well as nearby tourist locations like Mahabalipuram and Pondicherry.
  • However, Chennai's climate can be described as hot and humid throughout the year, with only slight variations in temperature between the three seasons. Mumbai, in comparison, has a cool breeze across the beachside in the evenings to cool you down.
  • Language could be a barrier in Chennai, although many non-Tamilians have settled here, and you can manage with a working knowledge of English.
  • Finally, IIT Madras consistently ranks at the top in the NIRF rankings for back-to-back years, which is a testament to its research facilities, faculty, and infrastructure.

Overall, while Chennai has some concerns, it is by no means an inferior option compared to other cities, and IIT Madras could be an excellent choice for you.

IIT Bombay or IIT Delhi, which one is better for computer science (CS)?

PG
Pratik Gandhi Posted On : March 18th, 2023
B.Tech. CSE, IIT Bombay

When it comes to choosing between IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi for computer science (CS), here are a few points to consider:

  • You can attend some of the brilliant and cool professors in India at IIT Bombay.
  • IIT Bombay has great placements for CS students. Even if you are a 6 pointer, you can still get a job with a CTC higher than the topper of Mech can get.
  • IIT Bombay has a great campus culture and you can have a very good time compared to any other IIT.
  • You can get very good recommendations from professors at IIT Bombay if you want to go for Masters/PhD.
  • The combination of IIT Bombay and CS is unbeatable, so go for it.

What are the good and bad things about BITS Pilani?

PS
Prateek Sharma Posted On : July 3rd, 2023
studied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

Every coin has two sides. Similarly, every unique feature of BITS Pilani has both its positive side and its negative side. Let me break down this into a few components:

  1. Hostels: The positive side is that you get your own personal space as the rooms are single-seaters. The bad side is that you might face trouble socializing and making new friends. Students tend to stay holed up in their rooms rather than exploring and making new friends.
  2. Dual Degree program: The positive side is that you are taught pure science or economics thus making the path easy for you in both research as well as placements. You also get to choose your favorite stream of engineering and even can get the most coveted CS branch. Additionally, you get an extra degree too. But the bad side is that the coursework is very hectic and the 2 degrees are useless if your aim was CS and you failed to get it. Secondly, you can’t take a minor in Finance. You will also have to pay extra fees for 1 year.
  3. No attendance policy: The best part about this policy is that the classes are so intriguing and knowledgeable that students themselves are motivated to attend them without any external pressure. The bad side is that some students who are overconfident don’t study and regret it later. The surprise quizzes are also very hectic.
  4. Freedom: BITS Pilani certainly instills in you a certain level of freedom so you are of your own free will to decide your timetable, teachers, your labs, you decide your degree. The bad side is that you alone will be responsible for all the consequences.

Now it is up to you to pick which aspect, the positive one or the negative one!

How is CSE at DTU?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : July 4th, 2023

The CSE branch at DTU is highly regarded for its curriculum and placements. Here is what you should consider

  • Placements: Students who are proficient in Data Structures, Algorithms, and CS subjects receive plenty of opportunities. IT giants like Google, and Cure.Fit, Sprinklr, etc visit the campus both for internships and placements. Although the chances of CS students getting placed are high, DTU still hasn’t been able to achieve the 100% placement mark.
  • Campus and hostel facilities: DTU does not have very good accommodation facilities and Delhi residents are not even offered hostels. You can find a PG nearby but that won’t give you the hostel life experience offered by other colleges.
  • Course Subjects and Faculty: Unlike IITs, not all professors are highly qualified and learned. Some deliver lectures just for the sake of it. However, the relative basis marking here makes things easier so you can maintain a decent CGPA throughout.
  • Computer Science Management: Like any other government institute the administration here is lethargic and matters are processed at a slow pace.

Ultimately, DTU should be your choice only if your goal is to get placed after enjoying good college life. But if you are a research enthusiast and want to pursue MS or Ph.D. in the future, then consider joining IIITD or NSUT instead.
