Is IISER Bhopal a good choice for sciences?

NB
Niti Bose, Posted On : November 9th, 2021
BS-MS from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal (2024)

One of my friends studied at IISER Bhopal, he had a science background as well. According to him, it is his best decision in life. He, being a student there, mentioned that it is really good for sciences.

  • Every IISER has proper research facilities.
  • The faculty members are involved in active research. They are very encouraging and helpful.
  • IISER Bhopal has a sprawling 200–250 acre campus which is beautiful and well maintained.
  • There are different clubs to nurture your interests.
  • Students secure internship opportunities right after the first semester.

But like everything else it has its own flaws. Many IISERs have issues with the attendance system, hostel facilities, etc. Overall if you join any IISER and have an interest in Science, you will not be disappointed.

Which course should I prefer in the CUSAT with a rank of 1,500 (general), and what courses are better in the CUSAT?

AR
Anand Ratan Posted On : April 21st, 2021
B.Tech from Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2017)

Before enrolling yourself in any course, learn about your passion first. Research about the engineering stream and its various aspects. You can also talk to your elders to know about your interest. If you are passionate about it then only get into the engineering field.

CSE, CE, EEE, ME are considered good at CUSAT. But the placement of Safety and Fire Engineering, CSE, IT, EC is better. Other departments of CUSAT often have an off-campus placement or go for GATE.

These are some good departments at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT)

  1. Civil Engineering: Total Batch Intake 90 students
  2. Information Technology: Total Batch Intake 90 students
  3. Computer Science and Engineering: Total Batch Intake 90 students
  4. Mechanical Engineering: Total Batch Intake 90 students
  5. Electrical and Electronics Engineering: Total Batch Intake 60 students
  6. Electronics and Communication Engineering: Total Batch Intake 90 students
  7. Safety and Fire Engineering: Total Batch Intake 60 students

Therefore, CUSAT has several best departments and courses. And if you are thinking of joining it, then you must go for it. But do not forget to know about passion first.

Which is better for competitive programming: Jadavpur University or IIEST, Shibpur?

AB
Aditya Bose Posted On : March 17th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur

Any college can be good for competitive programming. It all relies on you to educate yourself, to learn new strategies, and to spend hours coding.

  • Anudeep Nekkanti is one such example. He was recruited by Google and qualified for ACM ICPC world finals. If you look at the name of his college, it's not one of those elite ones.
  • There was no competitive programming pattern in BESU/IIEST until recently. But many students have taken competitive programming platforms such as Codechef and HackerRank over the last few years.
  • You can search the Codechef Rating System site to verify it for yourself. You get a college-wise database of the number of students actively engaged in competitive coding and their results using this platform.

Lastly, don't support the myth that the only way to prove yourself as a coder is competitive programming. There are other coding fields as well. In this sense, do not consider that there was no "real coder" in IIEST because there was no competitive coding pattern previously in IIEST (BESU back then).

Some of the alumni of the institute are working in top companies in India and overseas and have never been interested in competitive coding.

Which is the better college between Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College and ARSD College for a B.Sc. in Computer Science (Hons), mainly in terms of faculty and course-related infrastructure such as computer

PA
Praniti Arora Posted On : November 26th, 2021
B.Sc (H) Computer Science from Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Delhi University (2018)

It may not be right to compare the colleges under DU among each other. As most of them have similar curriculum and teaching techniques.

But if infrastructure is considered Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College (DDUC) is far better than other colleges under DU. As it is a newly established institution, the facilities provided are upgraded with the latest technology.

They also are known to have a very highly experienced faculty, some of them even having 20-30 years of teaching experience. DDUC is popular for its Science and Commerce streams.

Therefore if you wish to choose among DDUC and ARSD College for an Honours degree in Computer Science, it is suggested that you go for the former rather than the latter.

BG
Bidipta Ghosal, Posted On : November 18th, 2021
studied B.Sc. Statistics at Bethune College, Kolkata (2021)

To change your subject after taking admission to Bethune College, you need to know the following:

  • If you want to change your subject combination for the generic elective subjects, then you have to write an application mentioning the subject you selected first and the one you want to change it with now.
  • Apart from this, you will also be required to mention the reason for the shift.
  • Forward the application first to HOD of the subject you took admission in and then to the HOD of the subject you are shifting into.

You will be then informed about the further procedure (if any). Make sure to report to the head of your department within the first week, after the commencement of class, that you want to change your subject combination.
