How do you rate IIM Bangalore Business Analytics & Intelligence executive education course?

SS
Souvick Sengupta Posted On : July 27th, 2021
IIM Bangalore (2018)

One of my friends did the BUsiness Analytics Intelligence executive education course from IIM Bangalore and was able to provide some information regarding the course.

Pros of BAI course at IIMB -

  • You will get to learn from the same faculty who teach in the degree programs.
  • You will have the chance to network with professionals from diverse backgrounds like mechanical engineers, sales professionals, data scientists, and research associates.
  • The skillset you obtain in the BAI course will prepare you for managerial roles that require a deep understanding of analytics, both technically and strategically.
  • The entry criteria are strict and this ensures a quality peer group.

Cons of BAI course at IIMB -

  • You will not have the opportunity of campus placements. You must seek out opportunities on your own.
  • The course fee is not cheap. The total fee is around Rs 8 lakhs for an 8-month course which essentially takes place on weekends only.
  • As it is a certificate, not a degree, you may not get treated the same by employers.

So, the course is definitely good. However, doing it just for the brand name won't help. The corporate will think of the value and knowledge you bring to the table too.

What is the percentile that will ensure a call from IIM Calcutta, Lucknow, Bangalore, and Ahmadabad having 83% in 10th, 83% in 12th and a 6.9 CPGA in graduation, till now having no work experience?

If you have a good 10th and 12th-grade point average but a gradual decrease in graduation, it will undoubtedly affect your admission if you do not have work experience.

Attempt to improve your CAT percentile. Having a round 99.86+ percentile, you may receive a call from both the new and old IIMs.

How good is the EPGP course at IIM, Bangalore?

SR
Snigdha Roy Posted On : July 29th, 2021
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

The EPGP programoffered by IIM Bangalore was developed for a different audience. It is for students who want to apply directly for leadership roles in the industry. Also, sponsored candidates can also prefer the program.

  • Well academically, it is also as demanding as PGP, with more detailed casework and discussions.
  • There are exams and quizzes each month and the placement is rigorous for mid-level roles in the industry.
  • The program leaves the studying to you so it's on you to build a takeaway for yourself. It is at par with 1-year full-time MBA programs in India, such as ISB, IIMA PGPX, and IIMC PGPEX.

This is a short brief on the EPGP program of IIM Bangalore. Hope it gives you some clarity about the program.

Is it true that IIM Bangalore gives calls to toppers of board exams even at 99 percentile range? What is the minimum percentile at which such converts occur?

RT
Raksha Thakur Posted On : July 27th, 2021
Studied at IIM Bangalore (2019)

The latest shortlisting criteria for interviewing candidates IIM Bangalore is as follows. It is the weightage in percentage given to the candidates by IIMB.

Particulars Weightage
CAT 40%
SSC or 10th Boards 20%
HSC or 12th 10%
Graduation 20%
Gender Diversity 2%
Work Experience 8%

IIMB gives less weightage to the CAT percentile. So, if any other candidate who has a good academic record will probably be called for a PGP interview rather than who scored a good percentile in CAT. But it is also difficult to tell which percentile IIM B conversion is possible. It depends on how well the interview of the candidates has gone. Therefore, if you have a good academic background then chances are high that you will get an interview call from IIMB. Other important factors that can help you in getting the interview call are your work experience, CAT percentile, etc.

Is it clear that because of 78.75% in 12th, I don't have any chances of getting into IIM Ahmedabad or Bangalore?

TS
Tara Sachdev Posted On : July 29th, 2021
Studied at IIM Bangalore (2019)

The admission to IIM Ahmedabad or IIM Bangalore depends on a lot of factors other than just class 12th marks. The tables below will give a breakup of the weightage used by both these institutes during the initial shortlisting and final admission for the batch of 2021-23. You can visit the official websites of both institutes for better clarity.

Shortlisting
Categories IIM Ahmedabad IIM Bangalore
CAT Score 65% 40%
Academic Profile 30% 50%
Work Experience 5% 8%
Gender Diversity - 2%
Final Admission
Categories IIM Ahmedabad IIM Bangalore
CAT Score 25% 25%
Academics 15% 25%
Personal Interview (PI) 50% 30%
Academic Writing Test (AWT) / Writing Ability Test (WAT) 10% 10%
Work Experience - 10%

As you can see, it depends on a lot of factors, and just because you have only 78.75% in 12th does not mean that you are out of the race. Your class 10th score, graduation score, CAT score along with your performance in PI and AWT/WAT will decide if you will be selected for them or not. It is also seen that IIM Bangalore gives more emphasis on work experience than IIM Ahmedabad.

Do not lose hope and prepare well for the CAT, PI, and AWT/WAT.

Has anyone appeared for the entrance exam for the Mahatma Gandhi Fellowship Program of IIM Bangalore? If yes, how was the experience?

AS
Ashmita Saha Posted On : July 31st, 2021
BS-MS from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal (2018)

A friend of mine has recently appeared in the entrance exam of the MGNF program of IIM Bangalore and Ministry of Skill Development and he even qualified for the written exam.

He wrote the examination and just received a confirmation email for the interview process. He briefly gave an overview of the different sections of the Entrance paper which is as follows.

  • In the General Awareness section, you will have around 10 questions and the level of the questions are not very high. There were questions about a metal that is found in the liquid state, capital of Tripura, civil disobedience movement launched by the newest state of India, etc.
  • In the Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning section, there are a total of 30 questions. There would be two sets (5 questions each) based on a bar graph and the graph would be quite easy to read. You can solve them by using the approximation method because questions are mainly ratio-based.
  • Then there would be one set (5 questions) based on the pie graph which again was very easy to read and answer. Only one catch in one question is that you should know the conversion of hectares to acres. One very easy set based on the linear sitting arrangement and a few questions based on simplification. There was only one set based on some missing/incomplete tables which were tough and time-consuming.
  • Let us now move to the next section which was Quantitative Ability, again there would be 30 questions on topics like percentages, ratio proportion, averages, Simple interest, ages, probability, TSD, circles, cubes, time, and work, and few questions were based on simplification.
  • The final section of the paper is Reading comprehension and Vocabulary, again there you will have 30 questions. There were 4 small RCs consisting of 10 questions and most of the questions based on RC were inferred based on only 1 or 2 questions based on facts so this part of the paper would be a little tricky. The other 20 questions were easy to moderate level based on Synonyms, antonyms, odd man out, fillers, sentence correction, and one question was based on analogy.

So overall, I would say the paper would be easy but the only constraint would be time. Only 120 minutes for 100 questions. Out of 100 questions, 55-60 questions would be really easy and doable.

IIM Bangalore will assess the relevance of your work experience. They will evaluate your day-to-day responsibilities, leadership qualities, and quantifiable contribution to company’s growth. You can expect questions regarding these during your interview.

Make a clear assessment of your role in the organization. Quantify your contributions, and list the ways you have helped your organization grow. This will help your present a clear picture during the interview.

Got admits from IIMA PGPX, IIM Bangalore EPGP, and IIM Calcutta PGPEX. Which one should I go for (I'm really confused about the placements, no clarity whatsoever)?

DS
Dhruv Sharma Posted On : November 15th, 2022
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

Your selection should be based on your profile, such as your work experience, industry, and, most importantly, what you hope to gain from the program. If you have 4-5 years of work experience, you can look at EPGP because they have gone through ISB and have capped the work experience of the candidates they accept.

The age range for IIMA is 5-20 years, so the learning will be unparalleled in terms of class discussions and peer group learning. If I recall correctly, IIM Calcutta has a lower batch strength, and the batch is slightly on the higher side of work experience.

Placements are good at all institutes, and your previous industry experience is important. This is something you cannot change and should accept, but you can look at how candidates in that sector have performed over time.

In terms of learning, you'll not find the variety you'll find at PGPX anywhere else. Make contact with both alumni and current students. Make an informed decision based on your motivation for enrolling in the program.
