How do I get into IIM Ahmedabad with low academics?

RA
Rahul Arora Posted On : November 29th, 2022
Lives in New Delhi

Even with remarkable academic achievements, admission to IIM-Ahmedabad is notoriously difficult. Before even considering IIM-Ahmedabad, there are three criteria that must be met.

  • To begin, one must achieve a 70 percentile in all three sections and an 80 percentile overall.

  • Second, for a candidate with a science background, your average of your 10th and 12th grades should be equal to or higher than 80%. If you get a 100 percentile and your average of 10th and 12th grades is less than 80, IIM-Ahmedabad will reject you.

  • Finally, the percentage of marks in the bachelor's degree should be set at the 80th percentile of the percentage marks in the respective ACRC group.

If you meet all three criteria, you are eligible for admission to IIM-Ahmedabad and have low academic standing. Your 10th, 12th, graduation, and work experience points are added together and multiplied by 0.35. The remaining 65% is your CAT weightage, which is calculated by dividing your marks by the highest marks scored by a candidate in the CAT exam and then multiplying by 0.65.

Academic points can be made up if you perform exceptionally well on the exam. So, instead of worrying about your academic history, try to focus on getting a high percentile, which increases your chances of getting a call even if you have low academics.

How is production engineering at nit calicut?

SS
Shaurya Singh Posted On : March 25th, 2021
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Calicut (2018)

You must know what you are getting yourself into. The mechanical engineering department of NITC offers 2 BTech courses that are Mechanical and Production. Both of these departments share faculties, labs, some courses, and other facilities. But at the end of the day, both are different courses.

There are two types of people seen in Production Engineering at NITC:

  1. Students who wanted to study mechanical, but didn’t have the rank for it or could only get mechanical at other NITs. Production is after all similar to mechanical.
  2. Students who didn’t have an appropriate rank to choose a branch/college of their choice, but still wanted to study in an NIT.

There are few things that students commonly felt during their days:

  • Students are often seen saying that they should get mechanical equivalent certificates. There is no purpose in saying this as they are two different branches.
  • Students also complain that teachers are biased. Few teachers refrain from teaching students from production batches. Mechanical batches are taught mostly by permanent faculty while production batches get guest faculties.
  • There are very few placement opportunities for Production batches in comparison with Mechanical. Core companies are even fewer.
  • The students of Production are often isolated from other batches of students. They are allotted spare rooms.

Production Engineering at NIT Calicut

Course Fee

5.42 lakh

Placement Percentage

70-80%

Highest CTC

8 LPA

Average CTC

6 LPA

Recruiting Companies

Tata, Bajaj, HPCL, BPCL, TCS, Texas Instruments, etc.

The placement options are not as rare as students may make out, but it may not be in the field that they are looking for.

So in the end one can say that, if the student truly wants to be a mechanical engineer, then this college probably isn’t for you. If they just want the NIT experience, then they should know what options they will have after college.

MG
Mayank Gupta Posted On : July 4th, 2023
studied at Delhi Technological University (2020)

MC is a new branch at DTU so very little is known about it. My answer will surely help you gain help you consider it as a prospective choice.

Brand value: DTU's brand value has been able to attract a good crowd of students and recruiters over the past years. Despite having average faculties, it gives you enough resources and opportunities to pursue your passions in versatile fields. DTU offers exposure at the level of NITs.

  • Alumni network: Although the branch specifically has a small alumni pool. Let me tell you that overall DTU alumni are spread across the globe in successful careers and are very helpful.
  • Culture: DTU promotes programming through a number of societies and groups for DCE coders. You will find many Android/Windows/PHP developers that are very approachable.
  • Placements: The CSE placement scenario at DTU is excellent and at par with Software engineers and Information technologists. Around 75% of the companies offer a non-tech profile or a core computer engineering profile.
  • Research culture: This branch is a great choice for research enthusiasts as it is a perfect blend of mathematics and computing useful in a variety of research projects such as Data Mining, Big Data, Machine Learning, etc The professors will guide you through these projects but you will have to approach them frequently.
  • Syllabus: The branch exposes you to a wide variety of concepts related to Mathematics and computing. The table below will give you a glimpse of the curriculum of this branch.

Pure Mathematics subject

Which is the better option: CSE at Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering or CSE at RNSIT?

AM
Abhinav Mishra Posted On : September 13th, 2021
Studied at Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering,Bangalore

Out of these two, Dayanand Sagar is definitely a better choice because it is an autonomous institute. However, you will encounter multiple distractions on the campus and it is advisable to be cognizant and not to neglect studies.

Dayanand Sagar has a good reputation in terms of co-curricular activities. One of my friends, who got RNSIT in the first round, waited and later opted for DSCE in 2nd round.

Trust me it was one of the life-changing decisions in his life. Rest is up to you, do whatever you feel like.

How is AKTU for B.Tech?

HP
Himanshu Pahuria Posted On : November 7th, 2022
Student at Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam University (2015-present)

One of my cousins is a student at AKTU (Abdul Kalam Technical University). She shared an incident with me which will give you an idea of this university.

During her semester exams at AKTU, she faced a challenging experience. Compiler Design is a subject in the 6th semester of B.Tech. Computer Science. On her compiler design exam day, the question papers were distributed 15 minutes late. It was a regular exam for the new semester. But what she saw shocked her. On the top, it was mentioned - Carry Over Theory Paper Examination. This was a back paper for students who are reappearing and not for regular students. Sometime later a teacher made them change the code of the paper and subjects. All the students were in a panic.

So if you are planning to pursue B.Tech. from AKTU, you should brace yourself for some major challenges.
