The college offers all the basic amenities and decent infrastructure facilities. It includes a central library, sports complex, auditorium, hostel, laboratories, and computer centre. However, it does not offer any hostel facilities for female students.
You have to hunt for accommodation in PGs and hostels in the nearby area. One of the best options is Stanza Living. It is near to the college. One of my friends stayed there for a year, and she found it satisfactory. The facilities include the following.
Apart from the above, the other options for its residents include festival celebrations, movie screenings, lectures, and more. Overall, it will be a great experience.
IIT Roorkee has several hostels for students, each with its own unique features and amenities. Some of the best hostels in IIT Roorkee include
Rajendra Bhavan: This hostel is especially for freshers and has the best amenities. Every block has a lawn with a volleyball net. The Internet facility is a bit poor but it works in favor of the students giving them more time to spend with each other and involving in outdoor sports. However, the food served in the mess is pathetic.
Govind and Jawahar: Both these hostels are equally decent white Govind has a slight edge over Jawahar owing to its close proximity to departments. Some major facilities of these hostels include the central library, computer center, banks, Lecture Hall Complex, and the Main Building. The mess food at Govind is served far from the main building but the food served at both hostels is of better quality.
Ravindra: This is close to Gobind and in general to other departments as well. The hostel has its own stationary and Xerox store. The food served is also of good quality and taste. The only disadvantages are the small rooms with little ventilation and the faraway mess.
Radhakrishnan and Rajiv: Both these hostels have been newly constructed in the form of buildings instead of the usual hostel structure. The building has no open facilities like lawns and the only area to get fresh air is the gray cemented open space on the first floor in Radhakrishnan with two badminton nets. Both these hostels have great gym facilities and Radhakrishnan even has a generator facility but again very pathetic mess of food and small rooms.
Cautley and Ganga: Both these are the least preferred hostels among the students. This is because the mess is detached and serves below-average food. Ganga has very small rooms in comparison to Cautley which has better rooms and also an ATM, a lawn, and a general and stationery store.
The general preference order is as follows
Rajendra Bhawan > Govind Bhawan > Jawahar Bhawan > Ravindra Bhawan > Rajiv Bhawan > Radhakrishnan Bhawan > Cautley Bhawan > Ganga Bhawan.
I have a friend who is a Thiagarajar alumnus. He had a pretty good experience during his stay at the hostel. Here is his input.
Every college hostel is more or less the perfect place to learn, enjoy and live happily. Thiagarajar hostel is not an exception.
IIT Kharapur has around 18-20 hostels. There are 2 main girl hostels that will be allotted to you way before you reach IIT KGP for admission.
Once you reach, that particular hostel will go through your documents and a lot of room. The rooms are usually double occupancy so you can ask for sharing the room with a specific friend also. You are also allowed to change your rooms after 15-20 days provided that you inform the hostel authority of the same and get registered under the new room.
Yes, a good PG or paying guest accommodation near NIET college is easier to find as there are many PGs and a hostel in the NIET college. The college’s hostel has a separate building for the 1st year students apart from the college campus.
One great option for the PG near NIET college is the Judge’s Society (Royal Paradise). They provide all services essential for the students such as bus services, the four meal option including breakfast, lunch, tea, and dinner), washing facilities, medium level internet, and the fees can be paid in the instalments.
The campus is beautiful. It is within walking distance from the college that is around 1-1.5 km. The campus is surrounded by beautiful houses and is secured also.
AIIMS Jodhpur is very popular for its hostels and its hostels are one of the major features which set it apart from other government medical colleges in India. AIIMS Jodhpur has well-built and maintained hostels with all major modern facilities and amenities.
AIIMS Bhopal hostels are also well-maintained and have good infrastructure. The hostel rooms at AIIMS Bhopal have good furniture, with around 3/4th of a wall fitted with wooden furniture. The rooms are equipped with all the amenities such as a bookshelf, table, chair, bed, mattress, drawer, and table. There are no attached washrooms but the common washrooms are also very clean and hygienic.
IISER Kolkata has three hostels. The hostel accommodations are quite good.
Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Hall (ICVS): It is an all-boys hostel for BS-MS students. This hostel is closest to the lecture halls and research labs. You can get to the lecture halls within 2 minutes from this hostel.
ICVS has great facilities including high-speed internet, wash-rooms with geysers, washing machines on each floor. The hostel is under CCTV surveillance. However, there are no strict entering and exiting times specified.
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose (NSCB): NSCB has the same facilities as ICVS. It was also built at the same time. There are 2 wings for girls and 1 wing for boys. The boy’s and girl’s wings are separated by doors.
The main canteen is situated between NSCB and ICVS. The canteen is run by students. Below the main canteen, there are two stationary shops, xerox shops, saloons, and two refreshment shops.
Nivedita Hall: This hostel was built most recently. It is for the junior year BS-MS students. It has 2 wings for boys and 1 wing for girls. The wings are well-separated. It has all the facilities as the other two hostels. But there is poor ventilation.
It is close to the cricket ground, gym, badminton court, volleyball court. This hostel has its own canteen.
In the hostel, there are separate wings for Ph.D. and BS-MS students. Ph.D. students are allotted single rooms and BS-MS students are allotted double sharing accommodation. There are no hostel facilities for post-doctoral students.
My knowledge is limited to the accommodation facilities of UG students at IIT Kanpur only. The first-year students are allotted the Hall of Residence 13. This 6-story building has double or triple-seater rooms and has been built recently and thus has the best facilities among other hostels of IIT Kanpur. Its location is an added feature.
But from the second year, you will have to leave these splendid hostels and move to other hostels like Hall of Residence 2,3, 5, or 12. Let’s talk about these halls individually to get a better insight into the accommodation facilities of IIT Kanpur students.
All in all, IIT Kanpur provides decent hostel facilities to its students so that students are comfortable and can give their all in academics.
Freshers at LHMC Delhi are allotted 3 seater rooms. These are pretty average, and not spacious enough. Hostel maids don’t clean well, unless you pay them extra. So maintaining and cleaning your room will be your own responsibility.
The hostel has common washrooms. No outsiders are allowed. Water and electricity are available 24*7. There’s no curfew timing, but you will have to sign in and out on a register near the hostel gate.
The hostel library is in poor condition, but you can access the college library. It is quite good, and its reading room remains open for 24 hours. The mess food is bad. ACs and coolers aren’t allowed, but every room has them regardless. The campus has a paid laundry service. There aren’t any washing machines in the hostel. LHMC hostels aren’t great, facility-wise.
During hostel allotment, people from outside Delhi are prioritized. Your permanent address records will decide how quickly you get to the hostel. The farther your residence is from Delhi, the earlier you’ll get a seat.
Even though the LHMC hostel isn’t top-notch, you’ll make endless memories over here.
IIIT Guwahati offers decent hostel accommodations to students. The on-campus hostel facilities for boys can accommodate up to 400 students and the girls' hostels have the accommodation capacity of 100 students. First-year students get double occupancy rooms. From the second year onwards, students are assigned single rooms. IIITG offers all basic amenities to students opting for hostels.
