To decide which IISER to choose, here are the important factors to consider when comparing the five fully established IISERs - Kolkata, Pune, Mohali, Bhopal, and Thiruvananthapuram:

  • Research: All five IISERs are equally good in terms of academics and research.
  • Facilities: The facilities provided in all five IISERs are top-notch and well-equipped to cater to all the needs of the students.
  • BS-MS course: The BS-MS course provided in all five IISERs is of high quality and ensures a strong foundation in science and research.
  • Campus facilities: The campus facilities vary across the IISERs, but they are all equipped with the basic amenities such as hostels, libraries, labs, and sports facilities.
  • Extra-curricular activities and non-academic life: All IISERs provide ample opportunities for extra-curricular activities and non-academic life, with a variety of clubs and societies catering to different interests.

IISER Kolkata and Thiruvananthapuram would not be recommended due to various factors.

Here's how to rank the five IISERs based on preference:

Pune and Mohali (equal preference) > Bhopal > Kolkata > Thiruvananthapuram

What is the average number of times most IIM (A,B, C, Lucknow, Kozhikode) students have taken their CAT exam before getting selected?

KM
Kathakali Mishra Posted On : April 6th, 2023
Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

CAT exam is a highly competitive exam that is taken by thousands of students every year, and it is widely known that only a small percentage of students are able to crack it and secure a seat in the IIMs.

Based on conversations with current and former IIM students, it is believed that most students who get selected into the IIMs have taken the CAT exam multiple times. Some students take the exam 2-3 times, while others take it 4-5 times or more before they are able to secure a high enough percentile to get selected.

It's important to note that the CAT exam is just one part of the selection process for the IIMs, and candidates are also evaluated based on their academic performance, work experience, extracurricular activities, and performance in the group discussion and personal interview rounds. Therefore, even if a candidate has taken the CAT exam multiple times, they still need to perform well in the other parts of the selection process to secure a seat in the IIMs.

While there is no fixed number of attempts that most IIM students take before getting selected, it is clear that perseverance, hard work, and dedication are key traits that are required to succeed in the highly competitive world of management education in India.

Is it always good to join new IIMs leaving PGDM marketing at IMT Ghaziabad?

JJ
Jason Jose Posted On : February 16th, 2023
Former Assistant Manager at Union Bank Of India (2019–2021)

When considering whether or not to leave a PGDM in Marketing at IMT Ghaziabad for a new IIM, it is important to take into account the reputation and track record of the institution you currently attend. IMT Ghaziabad is a well-known and respected name in the list of business schools in India, with a legacy of producing leaders.

It is particularly strong in the field of marketing, and therefore leaving it for a new or lesser-known IIM may not be the best decision. Instead, it would be recommended to stay at IMT Ghaziabad and make the most of the opportunities and resources available there.

Is it worth it to go into 6 new IIMs (Ranchi, Rohtak, Raipur, Udaipur, Trichy & Kashipur) rather than going for an MS?

KN

If you are interested in MS, it is advised that you pursue an MS rather than an MBA at this time. This is due to the fact that you may have the opportunity to pursue an MBA later on, but you may have limited opportunities to pursue an MS later on. Furthermore, an MS may expose you to new and interesting aspects of your field, which may lead to additional academic or professional opportunities.

In terms of new IIMs, it is worth noting that, while institutions in other parts of the world must prove their worth over time, these new IIMs (Ranchi, Rohtak, Raipur, Udaipur, Trichy & Kashipur) may be seen as inheriting the prestige of their predecessors. It should be noted, however, that they inherit little else from the established IIMs. This is not surprising in a country where decisions are frequently based on caste, surname, and family history rather than character. It is recommended that you thoroughly research an institution before enrolling, rather than basing your decision solely on the highest package offered or the name of the institution.

What are the realistic chances of converting IIM Ranchi, Trichy, Raipur, Udaipur, Kashipur calls for an NC-OBC engineer male at an 80.2 percentile?

Your chances of getting an interview call from the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) may not be very strong based on your academic performance. While IIMs do consider academic performance as a factor in the admissions process, it is primarily used to selectively shortlist candidates from a pool of applicants who have achieved adequate scores on the Common Admission Test (CAT). Additionally, the sectional cut-offs for CAT scores are an important consideration in evaluating applicants.

While it is certainly possible for you to apply to these colleges, a prudent option would be for you to consider taking the CAT again and aim for a 95+ percentile score. Additionally, it may also be beneficial for you to acquire a good score on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) in the meantime to boost your chances of being admitted to a top management institution.

Lastly, it is worth noting that your current CAT scores may still be sufficient to earn you an interview call from some reputable non-IIM management institutions. Therefore, it may be beneficial for you to broaden your search to include these options as well.

Did anyone change their IIM interview date? If yes, what reason did you give?

MS
Mehul Sethi Posted On : November 10th, 2022
CSE IITK'15, IIMA

You can get the date of the IIM interview changed. You just need to mail the Admission Office of the University requesting the rescheduling by giving a genuine reason behind the same. You have to be honest and polite yet straightforward.

There are lots of people who request a change of interview date because of clashing schedules or another major exam on the same date. The reason must be valid otherwise your request will not be considered.

Can I get an NIT seat with a 15000 obc rank in JEE Mains?

MS
Monika Sinha Posted On : August 13th, 2022
B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur

It will be difficult to get an NIT Seat with a 15000 OBC rank in JEE Main. You may get NITs like Agartala or Silchar, during the last rounds of counseling. Whether you will get a seat or not will depend on the competition of that year and the cutoff trends. You may apply for the counseling and wait till the spot round admission.

Which is better IIM or NICMAR?

VS
Vivek Singh Posted On : October 7th, 2021
Construction Mgmt from National Institute of Construction Management and Research

Among the above two mentioned institutes IIM is a good choice considering many factors. Such factors include:

  • IIM is the best study center for pursuing post-graduation courses in India.
  • IIM is headed by the Ministry of HRD, govt. of India and NICMAR is a non-profit organization.
  • IIM entrance is tougher than NICMAR because the competition is high as many candidates apply.
  • IIM offers better placements and varied opportunities when compared to NICMAR.
  • Studying and scoring better grades at IIM is hard compared to NICMAR.
  • Graduates from different streams and branches can apply for IIMs whereas graduates from Civil Engineer or Construction branches apply for NICMAR.

Higher salaries, better placements and opportunities to work in the best organizations, a good career profile, and the brand value of IIM beat NICMAR.

My daughter is getting an admission in IIT Delhi's management course but she has already taken admission in IIM Kozhikode. Should she shift?

JB
Janhvi Batra Posted On : September 14th, 2021
Former Marketing Intern at Indian Institute of Management,Lucknow

IIM Kozhikode is far superior to IIT Delhi. It is regarded as one of the best management education institutes in the world. IIT is a technological institute, whereas IIM is a management institute.

Regardless of location, you should choose IIM Kozhikode over the Department of Management Studies at IIT Delhi. Following are the factors for the same:

  • IIM K is a well-established institute with over two decades of experience, and most importantly, it is an IIM.
  • It has a higher brand value, better placements. MBB has also visited IIM Kozhikode.
  • In terms of faculty, they are top-notch and have experienced in their respective fields.
  • The campus is beautiful and extraordinary, and it is only a few hours away from Wayanad. It is a great place to be and no one would want to miss campus life.

You should choose IIM K over DMS IIT Delhi, irrespective of its location. You will not regret it.

How would you arrange these in terms of their campus size - CBIT, VASAVI, MVSR, VNR, SNIST, MGIT, and GRRR?

DK
Dheeraj Kumar Posted On : August 31st, 2021
Studied at Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology

The colleges can be arranged in terms of their campus size as follows:

  1. CBIT: The campus is spread across an area of 50-75 acres. In addition to that, Chaitanya Bharathi Educational Society has bought land opposite the college which is about 100 acres.
  2. VNR: The campus is about 50 acres.
  3. SNIST: The campus is built in about 33 acres of land as claimed by the college even though it seems to be pretty small.
  4. VASAVI: The college campus is spread across an area of 13 acres.

The quality of teaching matter will eventually matter rather than the campus area of a college. You must choose wisely.
