Which would be better, chemical engineering at ICT Mumbai or at the Old IITs?

IG
Ilina Ghosh Posted On : October 30th, 2020
B.Tech from Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (2014)

ICT Mumbai holds 18th rank among the best universities of India by NIRF ranking. Similarly, as COEP, admission for chemical engineering in ICT Mumbai is based on entrance test and the rank of JEE mains followed by counselling.

We all know that IITs are the best for engineering. There is no comparison for IIT for Engineering education in India. Admissions are fully based on the rank of JEE mains and JEE advanced followed by counselling.

Tabulated below are few differences between chemical engineering in ICT Mumbai and Old IITs.

Particulars

ICT, Mumbai

Old IITs

Total course fee

3.41 lakhs

8.55 lakhs

Application fee

1000 INR

500 INR

Average salary

4.8 lakhs

11.5 lakhs

Admission:

  • The admission process at ICT Mumbai is fully online with an application fee of 500 INR. Admissions are based on Maharashtra common entrance test called (MHT CET) and if seats still left vacant then admissions will take place on the rank of JEE mains.

  • With this students should also have at least 50% in 12th board with required subjects.

  • Admissions in Old IITs are fully based on the rank of JEE mains and JEE advanced followed by counselling and interview.

Placements:

ICT Mumbai:

  • Companies like Asian Paints, BASF India, Black & Veatch, Cipla, DSM SOFT, Evalueserve, Exxon, Galaxy Surfactants, HONEYWELL, etc visit the campus every year.

  • The average salary offered to students of chemical engineering graduate from this Institute is of 4.8 lakhs and the highest package is up to 15 lakhs.

Old IITs:

  • Companies like Cadbury India, Hindustan Unilever, Itc, Larsen & Toubro, McKinsey & Company, PricewaterhouseCoopers, MRF, Reliance Industries, Renault Nissan, TVS Motor Company, etc visit campus.

  • Average salary package for an IIT student is up to 11.5 lakhs and the highest salary package is 30 lakhs.

Facilities:

ICT Mumbai:

  • The university has big and spacious classrooms. All necessary facilities like labs, hostel facilities, sports facilities, etc are available on campus.

  • Teachers are well-experienced and helpful. Most of them are PhD holders.

Old IITs:

IIT has the best facilities, infrastructure and faculty for engineering in comparison to other institutes or universities. All the necessary facilities like highly equipped labs, good hostel facilities, all are available.

IITs are the best for engineering rather any other Institute for engineering in Whole India. But if we talk about the admission or eligibility then definitely it is not that easy to get selected for IIT. But if we talk about ICT Mumbai separately then it is a really good Institute for doing chemical engineering.

Which should I prefer, IIT Kharagpur computer or IIT Delhi electrical?

SG
Senjuti Gupta Posted On : April 6th, 2023
studied at IIT Kgp

The choice of both the college as well as branches depends on your personal inclinations and career prospects. In case you aren’t sure of any branch yet, my answer will surely help you.

  • Anyone interested in huge packages and excellent job opportunities should go for the CS branch. It offers the highest packages and will never disappoint you.
  • Anyone interested in pursuing higher education from foreign universities should opt for Computer Science.
  • For those willing to work in public sector companies like Indian Oil, ONGC, etc go for Electrical.
  • Even if you are aiming for IAS/IES, Electrical will be the right choice.

The primary step is to analyze what you want from your graduation and then make the decision.

Which is better: DTU CS or IIT Delhi textile?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : April 6th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

While many might suggest you go for DTU CS, and not run after the IIT tag, my opinion may vary. Had I been in your place, I would have chosen IIT Delhi any day over DTU because the exposure, opportunities, brand value, research opportunities, and top-notch education that come with it are worth a few boring Textile Courses.

Most importantly, IIT Delhi allows you to take electives in the field of your choice and you can always opt for CS electives for better placements. Some common courses undertaken by students who opt for non-core placements are

  • Data Structures
  • Algorithms
  • Operating Systems
  • Computer Architecture

With the right balance of basic textile education and these courses, you can avail of both, CS education as well as IIT tag. However, you will have to study some courses in which you are least interested, thereby wasting your time. This sacrifice is justifiable when you keep in mind the CS faculty of IIT Delhi which is far better than DTU.

Which one is better: IIT Delhi or IIT Roorkee?

AG
Ashish Gupta Posted On : April 6th, 2023
Lives in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India

To make it easier, I have drawn a comparison between the two institutes based on the most common parameters

  • Infrastructure: Being the oldest IIT, Roorkee's main building is a historic building and one of the most prestigious ones in the whole country.
  • Location: Unlike Delhi, IIT Roorkee is located in an extremely placid and clean area and is the winner when compared to IIT Delhi's polluted location. Moreover, IIT Roorkee has many explorable tourist areas where one can spend their weekends peacefully.
  • Exposure: Being the oldest IIT, its huge alumni spread across the country and is extremely approachable.
  • Sports: IIT Roorkee is well known for its sports culture in the form of its sports champs at Inter IIT and various other competitions. It provides the perfect mix of academics and extracurricular activities.
  • Coding Culture: IIT Roorkee has witnessed many foreign internships and placements owing to its rich coding culture.
  • Branch change: Unlike IIT Delhi where you are eligible for branch change after an entire year, IIT Roorkee allows you to change branches right after the first semester.
  • Research: Placements-wise both IITs are equally good but if you are a research enthusiast, IIT Roorkee is the get-go.

IIT Roorkee is clearly the winner here and I would recommend you to go for it if you want to explore maximum opportunities.

Which one is better MBA from IIM Shillong or IIT Delhi? Also, pls suggest with reasons.

PT
Pragya Tripathi Posted On : January 27th, 2023
Former Ph.D. Candidate at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2017–2020)

IITs are known for having smaller batch sizes. However, the finance placements at IIT Delhi may be subdued due to the institute's focus on operations and technology. It is worth noting that both IIT Delhi and IIM Shillong have competitive placements and have not yet grown their batches to the point where this becomes a concern. IIM Shillong has strong finance placements, including ICICI Bank, which is a well-regarded employer for MBA graduates.

It is difficult to compare the two institutes as they both have their own strengths and advantages. IIT Delhi has a long history and its DMS programs are well-established in the industry. If a student is considering IIT Delhi and has concerns about the college's focus on investment banking, it is important to note that this career path is not heavily dependent on starting placements and individuals can be self-reliant in building their careers. IIT Delhi is likely to continue growing and expanding in the future, and IIM Shillong is well-positioned among the newer IIMs in RRRTUCS. It will also continue to build its research and faculty strength, particularly after it gets a new campus.

Location is a factor to consider when choosing between the two institutes. IIT Delhi is located in urban New Delhi, which may be an advantage for some students. However, it is worth noting that the lack of investment in MBA programs at IITs, including Delhi, could become a problem in the long term as the field requires significant expenses in faculty, coursework, and programs to remain competitive. Currently, IIT Delhi is ahead of the newer IIMs, particularly if a student is interested in a consulting placement straight out of school.
