Should I join the new IIITs like Surat, Nagpur, or Bhopal? They are being held in the NIT of their respective city and will enjoy all their facilities.

B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (2018)

One of my friends attended IIIT Nagpur. I got to know a little bit about the institute through him. Established in 2016, IIIT Nagpur has a small campus of its own. It is situated far away from VNIT Nagpur. Classroom teaching is done on the campus only.

Students only visit the NIT campus for lab works and practicals, that too mostly on weekends. So, if you choose IIIT Nagpur, you won’t be able to enjoy the facilities of NIT campus.

Disadvantages of New IIITs:

Another thing that you should keep in mind is that there are many disadvantages of being in the first batch for any institute.

  • For most of the newly established IIITs, the placement average is around only 50%. Even if you get placement, the salary package will be somewhere around 3 LPA.
  • Even if you are getting the facilities of NIT, it’s not permanent. Pretty soon the IIIT campus will be sifted to a temporary campus which will lack proper infrastructure and resources.

So, do your research properly and choose the option that suits you best.

Studied at Vasavi College of Engineering (2019)

Earlier Vasavi college of Engineering was not regarded as a university. Only the ones that are considered as a university could offer their own degrees. Vasavi was an OU-affiliated college and did offer an OU degree.

Since the year 2015, it became an autonomous/self-independent college and has stopped offering OU degrees. Colleges such as AFAIK, CBIT developed as an autonomous college before Vasavi and offers an OU degree.

Is there anyone who got 65-70 marks in the GATE mechanical (general/OBC) and got NITIE Mumbai?

NS
Nagaraj Sinha Posted On : August 18th, 2021
PG Diploma Manufacturing Management, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2020)

In order to get into NITIE, you should have to clear the GATE cut-off for that year.

The GATE cutoff generally remains around 729-760 for the General category and 420 to 550 for the reserved categories. NITIE recently released their GATE cutoff for 2021, which is as follows.

Category  GATE Cutoff
General  609
OBC 473
SC 345
ST  317
Physically disabled  473

After that, you must prepare and ace the group discussion and interview, because they carry huge weightage. So, even if you have a low gate score or have just managed to clear the cut-off. You can get admission if you perform well in GD and PI. Similarly, students with a high gate score but low performance in GD and PI can get rejected.

So, be well prepared for all of it because you can get through with a balanced performance.

Will 10 backlogs during engineering affect my chances to get into NITIE Mumbai?

AR
Ahaana Raval Posted On : August 11th, 2021
Studied Mechanical Design Engineering at Centennial College, Toronto, Canada (2019)

During the interview session at NITIE Mumbai your previous academic records are seen by the interviewers. They will ask for the reason regarding your backlog. Whether it was a result of carelessness or there was some genuine reason.

They will check your basics and the flow of answering the question and they will also test your logical progress and aptitude. With an eligible score in the qualifying exam and in your degree, you can get into any program. The backlog won’t affect much if you have maintained a good graph for your result.

If in your previous academic records there is no backlog mentioned then there is no problem at all in case it is mentioned and in your case 10 backlogs they can choose to overlook as well as ask you about it. But the most important thing is, to tell the truth and also if you have a sufficient score then it won’t be a problem at all.

Can I drop one year for the IPMAT (IIM Indore)?

VP
Vishal Pandey Posted On : August 31st, 2021
Studies Integrated Programme in Management, IIM Indore (2024)

It is a risky option to drop a year for IPMAT because the acceptance rate is extremely low i.e. 0.7%. It would be better to keep other options as a backup in place.

You can start studying for other entrances as well or get enrolled for a course if you want to save a year. You can also leave and go for IPM a year later if you get selected.

But, if you think that you are very serious about IPM, and you will do whatever it takes to get on by preparing rigorously after taking a drop for a year, and if you have a strong belief that you will get into it, then consider taking a drop.

Can I apply for an improvement exam after completing 6 years of concerned degree courses from University of Calicut?

HK
Hk Khan Posted On : November 9th, 2022
Bachelor of technology in Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering, University of Calicut

Calicut University offers 2 types of exams to compensate for below minimum marks:

  1. Improvement Exam

  2. Supplementary Exam

If you are referring to an Improvement Exam to increase marks of an exam you have already given then the answer is no.

But if you are referring to the Supplementary Exam to pass an exam you haven’t obtained minimum marks in yet, the answer is yes. There might be some chances for the same.

You cannot apply for an improvement paper if you have obtained your provisional degree certificate. This is because once you receive the provisional certificate it means you have successfully passed the course and no further changes can be made.

Any more doubts can be further addressed to the University Exam Wing. Just make sure to keep important documents within reach.

How good is to leave IIM Nagpur for colleges like NITIE after one year being a fresher?

PK
Parneet Kaur Posted On : January 30th, 2023
Works at NEC Corporation (Global Organization)

As an applicant to IIM Nagpur, you are in the best position to assess your prospects at the institute. If you are not confident in your ability to rank in the top 10% of the batch, you may have better prospects at NITIE. On the other hand, if you do not believe you will rank in the top 50% of the batch at NITIE, it may be more beneficial for you to continue at IIM Nagpur.

If you are not confident in your prospects at either institute, it may not make a significant difference which one you choose. Ultimately, the decision of which institute to attend will depend on your individual goals and priorities.
