Which should I choose: CSE in VIT or CSE in Nirma University?

NM
Nupur Mukherjee Posted On : October 12th, 2020
Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering & Automobile Engineering, Nirma University (2018)

Nirma University has been graded ‘A’ by NAAC. It has also ranked 13th for MBA by Outlook India in 2020. Apart from that, it has ranked 10th among the top private engineering colleges by Times in 2019 and 15th by India Today in 2019. VIT, on the other side, is an ‘A’ graded university (by NAAC’s evaluation) and has ranked 15th among the top engineering institutions by NIRF.

Since both these institutes are reputed, it can get tricky to choose either one of them. Here are some of the most important factors that can help you in making the decision.

Admission:

  • Aspiring students who want to take admission at Nirma University for CSE have to qualify for JEE Main and GUJCET. The course fee remains around 7 Lakh.

  • Those who want to pursue CSE at VIT, have to qualify for VITEEE and the course fee is 7 Lakh.

Placement:

Nirma University:

  • Top recruiters who offer placements to Nirma University students include Dabur, Daikun, Essar, Ingram, Infosys, IBM, Saint Gobain, Sun Pharma, Samsung, Morgan Stanley, Reliance, and many more.

  • More than 90% of students get placed every year from this institution. The highest and average salary package remains to be 14 LPA and 3 LPA.

VIT:

  • The highest domestic package that is usually offered to the VIT students remains to be around 40 Lakh and the average package remains somewhere between 5 LPA to 7 LPA.

  • Top recruiters are Cognizant, TCS, Wipro, Accenture, Infosys, Intel, Bank of America, PWC, and more.

  • More than 90% of students get placements every year as per the records.

Other factors: Apart from these factors, other factors like infrastructure, faculty, etc. usually are the same for both these institutes. Hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls inside the campuses.

These are some of the major factors that you should be considering while making the final decision.

Which is better, IIT BHU chemical engineering or CSE/electrical/mechanical at VJTI/SPCE/COEP?

TB
Tithi Banerjee Posted On : July 1st, 2023
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (2021)

IIT BHU is a better choice than VJTI, SPCE, and COEP. But it totally depends on you; if you have a keen interest in the electrical or mechanical field, then go with the other options. At IIT BHU, you will have the advantage of a branch change policy; you can switch to the CSE department if you strive very hard. BHU has an effective academic structure, the best placement support, experienced scholars, an incredible campus, and a rich alumni network.

Which is the best for CS, IIT Goa, IIT Tirupati, IIT Palakkad or IIT Dhanbad?

SR
Sanchari Roy Posted On : January 12th, 2021
B.Tech in CSE from IIT Dhanbad

The newer IIT colleges are not a great choice for your education. Mostly the college statistics and placement information are wrong and manipulated. You cannot trust the given placement CTC offered by the institutes. Most IITs lure students by showing the highest placement salary package, but most of the time they are not the correct data.

In 2020 there is little scope in the electrical engineering field. Hence, choosing and investing time and money in colleges, which will not provide return must be avoided.

However, whichever IIT you choose, what is more, important is your hard work and study. As the college or university itself doesn’t promise and guarantee your good future or better placement.

How do I choose between NSIT IT and DTU COE?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 23rd, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Both NSIT IT and DTU COE are CS-related programs with similar opportunities and peer groups. So if you have to choose one between the two consider the following aspects

  • Placement : If your primary goal is to get placed and start eating right after college then NSIT would be a better choice because of lesser competition than DTU.
  • Location : It’s advisable to choose the college that is nearer to your home so that it becomes easier for you to commute.
  • Hostel : If you are a Delhite, then you won’t be able to experience hostel life in DTU. So choose NSIT if you don’t want to be a day scholar.
  • College Life: DTU offers a better college life than NSIT.

Overall, both institutes have their pros and cons and will provide enough opportunities. So choose the one that aligns with your preferences!

To what extent does college name matter. Should I drop this year, or join IIIT Delhi CS?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : October 7th, 2023

Dropping a year would not be a wise decision if you are genuinely interested in CSE, and have an option of joining IIIT Delhi. I don’t think the college name matters to the extent that you would be giving up on the chance of joining IIIT Delhi CS. In fact, it’s slowly making its own name and in a few years will be among the top engineering colleges in India. Moreover, your UG college is just a stepping stone and its brand name won’t matter much and does not correlate with one’s success.

Joining IIIT Delhi will open doors to multiple opportunities like working on big projects, exploring hobbies, and traveling. If you choose to take a drop year, you will be struggling again with the same exam just to get a better rank. Personally, I don’t think these exams are authentic measures of an individual’s aptitude for computer science.

A close friend of mine was in a similar dilemma and was about to take a drop year when his mother persuaded him against the decision he finally decided to join IIIT Delhi and later realized it to be the best decision of his life. The 4 years were an ethereal experience allowing him to explore his research interests, learn and apply what’s new in computer science, and grow as an individual. So, in your case too, taking a drop year isn’t advisable.

What is a review for Ashoka University for computer science? Will it provide the right environment for computer science?

AB
Adrita Banerjee Posted On : January 12th, 2021
B.Sc (Hons.) in Computer Science, Ashoka University, (2019)

The course of coding at Ashoka is not as good as the IIT’s of India. Studying here I can tell that Coding is still in development, rather being a newer establishment.

Course structure

  • At Ashoka, Computer Science is not focused only on programming. If any student is interested in coding, they are given many opportunities to achieve greatness in that particular field.
  • The university organizes City Hackathons and provides extra-credit assignments every week.
  • You can work with the faculty to develop your interest further in programming.

Ashoka University

Course Fees

Course Duration

3 years (6 semesters)

Placement Percentage (overall)

80-100%

Highest CTC (overall)

Average CTC (overall)

6-7 LPA

Recruiting Companies

Microsoft, Google, etc.

Job Roles Offered

Database Administrator, Game Developer, etc.

Facilities:

  • Every student is given access to all the required resources.
  • Improvement of coding at Ashoka depends on each individual and how much time they can invest.
  • The university will make sure that you receive the best quality of teaching and resources available.

Faculty

  • Ashoka University is famous for its faculty members. The teachers are highly skilled and cooperative.
  • Most of the faculty members have or are pursuing a Ph.D. degree.

Therefore, if not the best, Ashoka University is considered the next big university in India, now and hopefully in the upcoming years. Choosing to study Computer Science here will help you further in your career.
