Yes, IIT BHU is an autonomous body, just like any other IITs. But certain powers are vested in BHU.

IIT BHU shares the same campus as IIT BHU. BHU and IIT BHU shares the same auditorium, badminton-squash court, swimming pool. Although IIT BHU has separate hostels, grounds, library, gym, etc. Also, IIT BHU organizes separate placements, fests, and other events.

How do I get an internship at IIT BHU?

SM
Saurav Mishra Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.A Pyschology from Banaras Hindu University (2020)

Getting in touch with the professors could be the easiest way to get an internship at IIT BHU. You can send an email to the professors with whom you want to carry on your work. All the contact details of the professors and department related personnel are available on the official site of IIT BHU. Now, mailing those profs. could be a difficult and tedious task because you may not get a reply right away. A solution for this is keep sending reminders at some intervals. Also, your statement of purpose ( SOP ) should be enthusiastic, keen, and well written. If you have any prior research experience at your college, then it would be of great help. If you know some professors personally, then the chances of getting the internship are high as well. IIT BHU also offers direct internships for summers, so just keep checking their official website.

Lastly your CGPA should be quite good and you should have good recommendations from the professors at your college.

Which institute is better between IIT(ISM), Dhanbad and IIT BHU?

AM
Adrija Mahapatra Posted On : February 17th, 2022
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2020)

You should compare these two institutes based on the performance of the branch that you are interested in.

ISM is different from other IITs, in the sense that it is well-recognized for Mining, Geology, Petroleum, and other related branches. Other core branches like CSE, Electronics, etc. started after it got the IIT status. So, the institute will need some time to catch up with IIT BHU for these branches.

While IIT BHU has had many years to establish a brand name for these branches. It also exhibited many high packages over the years. Although the infrastructure at the institute is poor.

So, if you are interested in branches like Mining, Petroleum, etc. then you should choose ISM. For mainstream branches, IIT BHU is better.

IT(BHU) got converted into an IIT in 2012. The institute has seen many changes since then. A few major ones have been listed as below:

  • There is a new administration, which is directly influenced by the MHRD.
  • The processes of recruiting faculty is more thorough and therefore, newly recruited faculty are better qualified as well as equipped for teaching.
  • There is now a proper course structure to be followed, with each course having a more rigid curriculum. The academic calendar is taken more seriously.
  • Exams happen twice - one mid-semester and one end-semester instead of the CT’s and final exams.
  • There is a new 75% attendance rule. Assignments and projects have become a major part of many courses. The concept of relative grading has been introduced.
  • There is a much more functional Training and Placements Cell, along with a new Entrepreneurship Cell. There are also new start-up incubators. Placements have seen an obvious major boost.
  • Many new departments have been added - the latest being Architecture. Also, department fests are taken much more seriously.
  • More and more students are enrolled each year into various departments. This has also resulted in the construction of new hostels and increasing room occupancy of some.
  • A new library has been built and a new student activity center is being constructed.
  • Many new councils and clubs have been introduced.
  • Google Start-up Weekend, FMC Weekend, and IIT(BHU) Modern United Nations are being held every year. Also, TEDx is being conducted whenever possible.

Some of the well-known core companies visiting the campus include DRDO, IOCL, HUL, Jaguar, TATA motors, Reliance, Maruti, L&T, BPCL, etc. The list of companies is not only restricted to the core, but students get offers from non-core sectors too like Software/IT, Consulting, Analytics, Finance, Education, etc. It has been observed that most of the students are placed in well-known organizations with an average package ranging from 10-12 lacs CTC. The Highest package in the core sector is around 31 Lacs CTC while in non-core is nearly 41 lacs CTC. Thus, the overall placement percentage of students for the Mechanical Engineering Department is above 90%.

JU is also a good college with some of the good faculties and infrastructure. It is considered one of the best colleges in West Bengal after IITKGP. One of the perks of joining JU is that fee is only 10k per semester which is quite cheap when compared to IIT BHU. Placements are very good and on par with other colleges and students get placed in top companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle, Adobe, Samsung, Goldmann Sachs, etc. Students were offered an average package of 12 LPA CTC while the highest being offered was 39 LPA CTC by Adobe.

It is difficult to compare two institutes for different branches. You should choose the institute based on your branch of interest.
