Does IIT-BHU offer exchange programs?

RD
Raktim Dasgupta Posted On : February 16th, 2022
B.Tech Studying Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi

Yes, IIT BHU offers a branch change option. 10% of seats are reserved for branch change. You can change your branch after your first semester. The shortlist for branch change is made based on CPI (Cumulative Performance Index) and PI.

You can only change your branch from a 4-year program to another 4-year program or from a 5-year program to another 5-year program. Changing branch from a 4-year program to a 5-year program isn’t allowed. Also, it’s easier to change branches for 5-year courses. Changing branches for 4-year programs can be difficult as the competition is high.

Which is better: IIT Guwahati CSE or IIT BHU CSE?

SD
Sharad Dev Posted On : March 20th, 2023
B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG) (Graduated 2017)

Instead of recommending any specific institute, there are some myths that need to be debunked first:

  • Placements at one institute are better than the other.
  • BHU has a wider network.
  • IITG has a cooler administration.

You must compare the two courses based on the following features:

  • Academic research
  • Placement statistics
  • Competitive coding
  • Open-source development
  • Other club activities
  • Climate and geography
  • Connectivity (and distance from hometown)

If you're specifically interested in CSE, then the first four points are almost equal for both BHU and Guwahati. When it comes to the other points, IITG has a better climate, while Varanasi may be better connected and nearer to your hometown.

So, it's up to you to weigh the pros and cons and decide which institute suits you better. Remember to make an informed decision and choose wisely.

If you are looking for placement in the non-core sector then it is very good, it is one of the branches with most placement in IIT BHU. Otherwise, if you want to work in core companies you have to take the GATE exam as there are not many core companies offering placement to Chemical Engineering students in IIT BHU. This year 104 students got placed in chemical engineering, mainly in software companies. You can also bag PPO if you do well in your internships.

Some of the companies that came for placements are CSRL, Nucleus Software, PDPU, Fidelity, Nineleaps, Sokrati (business analyst profile), FIITJEE, ET MEDIALABS, TechnipFMC, Onix Capital, CGI, EMERGY Enviro Pvt. Ltd, Tavant Technologies, Info Objects, Mirum, Praktice.ai, Biorasi LLC, Ambuja Cement, HPCL, GAIL, Air Liquide (only for chemical as trainee engineer), Prism Johnson Limited (only chemical and mining were allowed). These companies offered an average package of around 8 lakhs whereas, the highest package was Rs. 1.53 Crore.

Was IT-BHU better than IIT(BHU)?

GS
Geetali Saha Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2021)

There have been changes which happened lately for which IIT BHU is better than IT-BHU.

IIT BHU comes with a tag of IIT which offers a lot of advantages to the students. There is no interference of BHU, thus IIT BHU works independently. There is a tremendous help from the government in terms of funding. The campus placements have improved and so have the curriculum. Now since it has become an IIT, it has numerous opportunities for growth and development. The infrastructure of the institute is improving and now the college has a lot of student exchange programs which results in better exposure. IIT BHU admits some of the brightest students who work very hard through IIT JEE. This creates a competitive and better academic environment.

Hence we can say that IIT BHU is better than IT BHU.

Which college is better, IIT BHU or IIT Gandhinagar?

YD
Yash Dasgupta Posted On : August 14th, 2020
M.Tech BioEngineering Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (2021)

IIT BHU and IIT Gandhinagar both are decent IITs. IIT Gandhinagar has a better NIRF ranking as compared to IIT BHU. Although IIT BHU has a lot of Engineering courses to offer, the overall infrastructure and environment are not as conducive as IIT Gandhinagar. Also, the recent year’s cutoffs are comparably higher for IIT Gandhinagar.

Furthermore, IIT Gandhinagar has a unique and distinctive “Foundation Program” which helps students get acquainted with academic life and college environment. Besides, the faculty of IIT GN is also among the best. On the contrary, there is a shortage of faculty members in many branches (including Civil Engineering) at IIT BHU.

The campus location of IIT Gandhinagar is also comparably better as compared to IIT BHU. It is pertinent to note that the campus of IIT BHU is merged with BHU, which makes the campus a crowded place for students. Also, the placement scenario in both the colleges is almost at the same level.

Although IIT BHU being much older than IIT Gandhinagar, offers a huge alumni base. IIT GN might be considered a new IIT by many, but the progress that it has shown is humongous. It also provides a conducive environment for research scholars and has an overhauled infrastructure (including labs). Both colleges have their pros and cons, so it is hard to choose one institute over the other.

What power does the vice-chancellor of BHU have over IIT BHU ?

SD
Sandeep Das Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Bachelor in Technology Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2021)

Currently, the Vice-Chancellor of BHU has no power over IIT BHU as both are independent institutes. Although, they are united together under the name of Banaras Hindu University. The two institutes take their decisions independently. The Vice-Chancellor of BHU has no say over IIT BHU. But there was a small twist in all this. A few years back the Vice-Chancellor of BHU was also the Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT BHU. Chairman of the Board of Governors is the most powerful person in IIT BHU. No decision can be taken without the permission of the Chairman. Since the same person was working at both these positions, the Vice-Chancellor of BHU was the most powerful person in IIT BHU but it’s not because he was the Vice-Chancellor of BHU, but because he was also the Chairman of Board of Governors of IIT BHU. But now things have changed as different persons are working in these positions. Mr. Rakesh Bhatnagar is currently the Vice-Chancellor of BHU and Prof. P. K. Jain is the Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIT BHU. Mr. Rakesh Bhatnagar does not have any power over IIT BHU.

Which is better CSE in thapar or ceramic in IIT BHU ?

SR
Srijeeta Roy Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2020)

Ceramic Engineering and CSE are two completely different fields of study. CSE offers better placement and packages as compared to Ceramic and though both these institutes are well-reputed the IIT tag offers certain advantages. So it’s quite difficult to choose an institute over the other.

In terms of internships, since Thapar is a private college, they have their own standards regarding schedules. In the internship session of 2019, almost 1200 students got placed. The internship session of IIT BHU includes many big names such as Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, etc.

In terms of placements, IIT BHU has performed very well. In 2019, the highest package offered was 1.03 Crore per year in domestic and four students received international offers of 1.53 Crore. Whereas, Thapar received the highest package of 39 LPA, which is quite low but the average packages of both colleges are almost similar. IIT BHU placement statistics show that 171 students chose core companies.

Thapar has better hostel and mess facilities whereas IIT BHU’s campus is spread over 400 acres, which is 150 acres more than Thapar’s. In terms of connectivity, IIT BHU has better connectivity and therefore can be assumed to have more exposure. Both colleges are good and have their own advantages. So pick the branch of your choice.

As we are living amidst a pandemic, you will need only the following things, if you are getting admission to IIT BHU, this year.

  • Get a stable internet connection.
  • Your classes will be held online. So, download Google Classroom and MS Teams.

Learning the basics of Canva and Photoshop will help you a lot. This pretty much sums up the requirements for online IIT BHU. The campus will be open for physical classes following all Covid-19 protocols and updates.

In case, offline classes start, the basic amenities that you need to pack are as follows.

  • Cloths, bedding, a first aid kit, ATM card.
  • Pack all the documents that you may need.
  • You can bring your laptop too. But for the first semester, it won’t be that necessary. You can do most of the course work using your smartphone.

Also, pack smart, don’t bring too many things along with you. You can buy a lot of the iteams in the market near campus.
