What is the one thing you regret not doing in your BTech life at NIT Calicut?

AS
Abhimanyu Singh Posted On : April 13th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Calicut (2019)

There are a bunch of things that you should do before you graduate from NIT Calicut which might sound simple and silly but worth looking back down the memory lane.

  • Scaling on the rooftop of MB and spending a night there chilling with your squad.
  • Spend some more nights doing midnight conversations with your friends.
  • Go on as many trips as you can when you still are out of your work-life pressure.
  • Complete your major project on time so that you can spend those final days of your college life stress-free and by doing things that you love.
  • Conduct thorough research on the company where you got placed so that you don't have to regret your decision later on. Look for outside job opportunities too. You never know about the best things which await you outside, especially in the CSE field.
  • Never miss a DJ night at a basketball stadium.
  • Take a midnight ride to Kappad. Serene beaches there will surely mesmerize you. A clean and empty beach with only a few locals is a perfect spot to get away with your friends.
  • Take a long stroll at night on your campus and admire its beauty when you are still there.

Tick all the things to do in your bucket list before graduating from Calicut. You never know what you will regret not doing when you still are a student.

Until what rank does the IPM IIM Indore merit list go for the general category?

SR
Sritama Rallabandi Posted On : August 24th, 2021
M.S. by Research from International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (2023)

This is something that will vary according to the year of admission. For any category, students up to a certain rank are decided according to the seats they have and are given provisional admission letters.

Thereafter if any student among them does not accept the offer and any seat is left vacant then only the next ranked candidate is offered the seat.

In previous years in the general category, students till the rank of 58 were offered the provisional admission letters and all others beyond the rank were in the consideration pool in case some students did not accept the offer.

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : June 11th, 2023

I think choosing IIT (BHU), Varanasi is a better option here considering the various perks it will offer

  • The rare chance of studying CSE from one of the oldest IITs to exist. Remember the older, the more experienced.
  • IIT BHU has a very rich coding culture which is promoted through international events like ACM ICPC, Google Code Jam, and Google Summer of Code.
  • The campus welcomes all major software companies during placements both summer and final.
  • You get to enjoy college life at a huge campus with students from all over the country
  • IIT BHU focuses a lot on the holistic development of its students through various extracurricular activities l.
  • You get a chance to explore the holy city of Varanasi.

IIT BHU is one of the oldest institutes and is daily a preferable choice to IIT Hyderabad, a new IIT.

Which will be better for CSE, GCECT or Haldia Institute of Technology?

SB
Sanjana Bhandari Posted On : September 22nd, 2021
Studied at Government College of Engineering and Ceramic Technology (2018)

HIT is a private college whereas GCECT is a government college. Following are the points of differentiation between both colleges:

  1. GCECT has comparatively very less fees which almost amount to INR 10,000 per semester and the fees for HIT approximately go up to INR 50,000 per semester.
  2. GCECT is an autonomous institute which means that the evaluation is done on the campus. However, on the other hand, Haldia Institute of Technology is affiliated with MAKAUT.
  3. For CSE, GCECT has great labs that are very poorly maintained and the faculty is also not so impressive. It has a poor infrastructure when compared to HIT.
  4. Both the colleges have almost the same average placement rates which range from 4 to 5 lakhs per annum. More service-based companies visit HI.
  5. GCECT has no on-campus placement drive and it jointly organizes placements. There is the same amount of competition. The companies still take a good amount of students from one college campus rather than multiple campuses.

You can go to Haldia Institute of Technology if fee structure is not an issue. It will offer you great exposure when compared to a government institute.

How is Mining Engineering at NIT Raipur? What can I expect my starting package to be (roughly)?

Satyam Purwar Posted On : September 12th, 2023

NIT Raipur Mining Engineering is one of the best in the country. However, the prospects are very challenging so you will have to work hard to excel in this field. If you are confused about any branch, go through its strengths and weaknesses. For instance, a mining engineer gets paid handsomely but his working conditions are very challenging and may even affect his health.

Generally, the placement scenario of branches like CSE, IT, and mining is very good. Last year 62 offers were made to 70 eligible students. I asked my friend for the detailed statistics and here is what he shared

  • The maximum salary package offered was 55 LPA.
  • The minimum salary package offered ranges between 15 LPA - 25 LPA.
  • Around 85% of students got placed in various tech and non-tech companies.
  • Top recruiting companies are Vedantu, Adani, JSW, and Tata Steel.
  • About 40% of students got internships in non-core companies.

Overall, the mining engineering branch is a good choice if you are genuinely interested in the field.

How is the placement of electrical engineering at MNNIT Allahabad?

SS
Souvick Sengupta Posted On : May 14th, 2021
MNNIT Allahabad (2017)

MNNIT Allahabad has an impressive placement record. The placement statistics of MNNIT Allahabad are even better than some of the NITs. For the Electrical Engineering branch, the placement record is above average. Many reputed MNCs visit the recruitment drive to hire students in Core, Consulting, and IT domains.

Some of the major recruiters from different sectors at MNNIT Allahabad are as follows.

  • Core Domain: NI, Qualcomm, Blue Star, Hindalco, TIPL, RIL, L&T, Maruti, Nestle, etc.
  • Consulting Domain: Morgan Stanley, MU Sigma, ZS, Goldmann Sachs, etc.
  • IT Domain: TCS, Infosys, IBM, Walmart, Directi, etc.

All these companies allow students from the Electrical Engineering branch to sit for placements.

During the recent placement for MNNIT Allahabad, the highest salary package is 49 LPA while the average CTC recorded to be 10.28 LPA.

Evidently, MNNIT Allahabad provides a lot of opportunities for students to get employed with the companies that are considered among the top best across the nation, and students get an 'on-campus' placement tag before leaving the university.

How will the new IIIT Pune and IIIT Nagpur be?

SG
Sunita Ghosh Posted On : March 19th, 2021
B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Pune (2020)

The ongoing process and overall development of IIIT Pune and IIIT Nagpur are considered to be averagely graded, according to the present conditions of the institute. Some of my friends are pursuing their studies at IIIT Pune and IIIT Nagpur. I will try to give an insight below about the institutes, based on what I heard from them.

  • According to placement reports of IIIT Pune and IIIT Nagpur, the level of the institutes is close to NITs, if not inferior. As with NITs, they have low academic freedom, a decent undergraduate program with good placements, and almost no scope for research-based works.
  • There are reports of IIIT Pune rejecting applications to recruit professors with Ph.D. from IIT Bombay or IISc, even without interviewing them. The reason stated for the rejection was the candidates did not have an engineering undergraduate degree, but a mathematics Hons. The institute did not consider excellent research works as important, even from places like IISc and IIT Bombay.
  • On rejecting candidates with good profiles, the institute selects candidates as professors from Ph.D. in NITs, Nirma University, etc. IIIT Nagpur also has similar records of meaningless decisions.

Thus, there are several irregularities in IIIT Pune and IIIT Nagpur which states that the two institutes are on average condition at present times.
