How did you get into NITIE, Mumbai, and how was your experience there?

SA
Shailja Agarwal Posted On : August 13th, 2021
PGDIE from National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

One of my friends got admission through CAT. He was initially on the waitlist but was eventually accepted. According to him the college itself was a fantastic experience. Here is some of the information I gathered from him, which might be useful to you.

  • He received a CAT score of 99.4%. This led to him getting a call from NITIE.
  • The GD and PI session was good.
  • In GD they mainly discussed topics related to current trends. In PI, he was asked about himself and his overall choices. Also, they did check his general knowledge.
  • After getting admitted to NITIE, the first thing was getting to their allocated rooms.
  • Getting accustomed to the academic rigor was tough.
  • He also participated in competitions, winning a few.
  • He got an internship with a large FMCG company. It was an excellent learning experience. Seniors helped him in getting his first internship.
  • The internship was very helpful and enriching. But he also mentioned that if you do not work hard, your career can go downhill.
  • It is a good place to start for people interested in the supply chain.

Finally, he mentions that his life at NITIE was really exciting. He got to learn about the real dynamics of business and the corporate world. It groomed him to be a confident person. Overall his 2 years of experience at NITIE were really satisfying.

Do IIIT Hyderabad students (BTech, DD, MTech, MS and PhD) regret not being one of the IITs?

Sabeer Chalana Posted On : July 31st, 2023

No, I don’t think so. To be honest, my friend who is an IIIT Hyderabad student is much happier and more satisfied than his friends at IITs. He claims that he is in a better position compared to many of his CS and Non-CS counterparts at the IITs. IIIT Hyderabad certainly renders better opportunities in terms of research paper output, coding competitions performances, placements,  and Internships. So he is actually grateful for giving up his seats in IITs for a seat in IIIT. In fact, some of his friends had to go to non-CS branches in top IITs just because their ranks were not good enough for IIIT Hyderabad CS.

I hope this made it clear that people joining IIIT Hyderabad have no regret looking at their IIT counterparts whatsoever. If anything, they are grateful for the rare opportunity.

Is BHU better for UPSE preparation

SK
Sneha Kumari Posted On : November 10th, 2022
Economics from Banaras Hindu University (Graduated 2018)

Banaras Hindu University or BHU is not just better but it’s the best for UPSC preparation. There are many examples of students passing the UPSC exam from this university. One such example is Sachin Kumar. He was a student of MA (Political Science) and managed to top the CAPF exam without any extra tuition. His delegation combined with the university’s quality education helped him climb the ladder.

I have mentioned some pros of the university to explain why you should go for BHU:

  • Hostels- The best thing about BHU has to be its amazing hostels with great facilities and surrounded with lush green beauty. The ambiance is perfect for the preparation of any kind of exam. The AND hostel is one of the best. The hostels are extremely affordable around INR 80 per month.

  • Facilities- Every resident of the hostel can easily access the classes, food, playground, gym, pool, and other facilities. Free Wi-Fi facility is also available 24/7.

  • Social activities- The hostels at BHU celebrate all the festivals which bring together students from different communities. This helps develop an emotional bond and makes hostel life memorable.

All in all, BHU is the right choice for UPSC preparation. You will not regret your decision.

How do I, a prefinal year student doing EEE, get a summer research internship with IISC Bangalore in DSP, related particularly to “compressed sampling”?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : July 14th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

You can directly apply for the summer research internship program at the official website of IISc Bangalore. Another way to secure a summer internship at IISc Bangalore is by direct email.

The professors at IISc receive numerous internship applications. Many of them hire interns much before your mail gets to them. Professors hire interns 2-3 months before the start of the internship period.

One of my seniors interned at IISc Bangalore. According to her-

  1. SOP counts a lot. Try to sound very convincing about how much you love that research area.
  2. The recommendation letter format offered by IISc contains an optional column to send the key publications of the professor who is giving you the LOR. Start the application in advance and coax your professor into giving the key publications of his research duly signed and attested.
  3. CGPA holds a lot of importance. Make sure to score well.
  4. A good courier service must be used to send the required papers. Track the documents. Your profile and write-up might be very good but unless they need to reach the right place.

If you are interested in research in compressed sampling and the institute is not your priority, you can also apply for international internships such as DAAD, MITACS, SN BOSE, and Charpak France. There are numerous foreign universities involved in extensive research on compressed sampling.

How should a non-Tamil Nadu candidate apply at TANUVAS Chennai?

SG
Shanu Gupta Posted On : September 10th, 2021
Studies at TANUVAS (2020)

You can apply for TANUVAS through the all-India quota (AIQ), which accounts for 15% of total seats. You must take the NEET test for this, and you can get admission through the all-India quota based on your NEET score.

There are a total of 12 AIQ seats available in each of TANUVAS' colleges. So, after the declaration of the NEET 2021 result, you must attend counseling organized by VCI (Veterinary Council of India).

For more updates and information, you must visit the VCI website daily after the declaration of NEET 2021 result.

How do I get a summer internship in IISc Bangalore?

MS
Monika Saha Posted On : July 18th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore

The only way to get a summer internship at IISc is through IAS (Indian Academy of Science). And you need to be in at least 2nd year to apply for it. Once you have applied, your application goes through professors whose departments are in need of interns.

Inters usually receive a stipend in return for their contributions. The professors expect you to be skillful and make big contributions. You can gain some prior knowledge related to the project before going for it. These internships are not for short time periods as the minimum time period for an internship is around 6 months.

Should I opt for Chemical Engineering at NIT Surathkal or at NIT Warangal?

Namrata Das Posted On : September 16th, 2023

Since you are looking for the same branch, I think you should give preference to the institutes. That being said, it’s not a brainer that NIT Warangal is much better than NIT Surathkal in terms of academics, job opportunities, and campus life. In fact both the colleges give tough competition to each other since they are among the top 3 NITs.

The only reason I am giving more preference to NIT Warangal is because it has a branch change policy which NIT Surathkal does not. So if after studying Chemical Engineering you realize that it’s not your cup of tea, you can opt for a branch change. However, it’s important to note that this process is neither easy nor tough.

One of my friends studied at NIT Warangal and told me that every year many chemical and biotech students slide to branches like ECE, CSE, Mechanical, etc.

So both are great options with NIT Warangal having a slight upper hand over NIT Surathkal.

B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Cochin University Of Science and Technology

You should choose NIT Jamshedpur for Mechanical Engineering. It has an impeccable Mechanical faculty. The professors have years of experience in the field. The placements are more competitive at NITs. NIT Jamshedpur placement highlights for 2021 show around 96% of Mechanical students got placed with an average CTC of INR 7.3 LPA. Vedanta Ltd, Tata Steel, Royal Enfield, etc. are some of the major recruiters for the branch.

What is the total expenditure for a BTech course in Manipal Institute of Technology, Karnataka?

SV
Shyam Verma Posted On : September 8th, 2023
Computer Science, and Engineering, MIT Manipal

Here is a rough estimate of the total expenditure for a BTech course at MIT Karnataka.

  • Total Tuition Fees ( BTech): INR 18.62 Lakhs
  • Hostel + Mess fees: Around 4–5 Lacs depending on the hostel you choose
  • Travel expense: On average you will be spending 750-1000 per month. So the cost of a 9-month stay for 4 years will be 1000*36= INR 36000
  • Travel expense from home to college: This varies from person to person because if you live far away, you will have to travel by airplane. Assuming, you will be taking 4 trips a year, the cost will be around 1 Lakh.
  • Misclieous Expenses: Around INR 5000 per month. So 5000 x 9 x 4 = 180000 INR.

The above estimate does take into account the money you spend partying or going on trips. Also, it's important to note that the above estimate is purely based on my speculations and may vary from person to person.
