IIM A or ISB Hyderabad? Which one should I choose now that I have got a call from both of these schools?

Sabeer Chalana Posted On : October 20th, 2023

Academics are brilliant at both of these institutes. They both follow case study pedagogy. But they are different from each other in many ways.

Here are some differences between them to help you find a better match for your PGPM-

  1. IIM Ahmedabad is much older, and has a rich legacy. ISB Hyderabad is comparatively new.
  2. ISB follows the European model of 1 year PGPM. IIMA offers 2 year PGPM, and 1 year PGPX.
  3. Even though the fee of PGP is higher at ISB, the course duration is lower at this college. This makes the short term ROI similar for both.
  4. ISB requires a minimum 2 year work experience from its applicants. On the other hand, freshers comprise over 25% of a PGPM batch at IIMA.
  5. The average work experience of an ISB PGPM batch is around 4.7 years, the same for an IIMA PGPM batch is less than 2 years.
  6. Recruiters at IIMA seek candidates with a strong academic and extra-curricular record, but low work-experience. This is especially true for marketing firms, which are the biggest recruiters at IIMA. Thus, you might face difficulty in finding roles suited to your profile and experience at IIMA. But in this case, you may consider the PGPX program offered by IIM Ahmedabad.
  7. IIMA PGPM and PGPX courses record higher average salaries as compared to ISB. But this can be explained by the much higher student intake of ISB.

I would recommend you choose the college that best suits your profile and career goals. Both of these business schools are highly renowned and good in their own way.

Should I prefer IT in IEM Kolkata or CSE in JGEC?

US
Ushashi Sinha Posted On : June 2nd, 2021
Electronics and Comm. Engg. final year

The advantage IEM Kolkata holds over JGEC is its geographical location.

Winner

If you are inclined towards government institutes, JGEC is the clear winner. But, if you are looking for the best institute, IEM is taking home the trophy.

The reasons are below.

  • IEM provides a better educational environment to the students.
  • IEM offers better counseling. Students may get a chance to sit in the interviews of one or more renowned IT companies, whereas JGEC doesn’t provide such a chance. There are rare chances to get other placements after getting a job.
  • IEM gets the location advantage as it is in the heart of the eastern IT hub, Kolkata.
  • The syllabus of IT and CSE is 95% similar. Therefore, there will not be any major difference between the two fields.
  • IEM has also won many titles like “Jewel of the East” by Telegraph, and “Picture Perfect” by ABP Group. It has achieved the best institute of India in Star News Award.
  • The admission is based on WBJEE scores.
  • It has facilities like boys’ and girls’ hostels, a playground, different buildings for different courses, and more.

The placement figures of IEM are:

Average Package

INR 4 LPA

Highest Package

INR 32 LPA

To conclude, IEM is the better choice. The fee of JGEC is less, but IEM offers better placements.

A
Admin Posted On : April 4th, 2024

Chandigarh University is one of the top private universities in North India whereas SRM University (Main Campus - KTR, Chennai) is a renowned university in Southern India.

Both universities offer CSE and IT degrees that have good ROI. The choice among these two universities depends on various factors like location, fees, placements, faculty, exposure, etc.

  • Fees: The annual fee for CSE at Chandigarh University is INR 2,71,400 whereas the per year fee for CSE at SRM University is INR 4,75,000 which is a huge difference. So, if you are someone who cannot afford to pay such a huge amount every six months then go for Chandigarh University.
  • Placements: A B.Tech CSE Information Security student of Chandigarh University grabbed the highest package of INR 1.7 CPA in a US-based company and the national highest package of CU is INR 54.75 LPA whereas the highest salary of SRM University is INR 52 LPA. Both universities have tie-ups with big organizations like Microsoft, IBM, EY, etc. However, the percentage of students placed in a particular branch is higher in SRM Chennai.
  • Faculty: The faculty of SRM University Chennai is better for CSE or IT as they are well-qualified in their respective fields. The university also organizes guest lectures, practicals, competitions, etc for the academic development of students.
  • Social Life: SRM IST Chennai has various clubs for students to participate in such as Rotaract Club, NSS, NCC, Astrophilia, Fashion, Music, Literature Club, Festival, Dance Club, etc. On the other hand, Chandigarh University also has a vibrant campus life as many famous personalities visit the campus.

To take admission to SRM University's main campus for CSE or IT, students should attempt SRMJEE and qualify with the cutoff prescribed. The application fee for SRMJEEE is INR 1200. Candidates have to apply on the official website.

The process of applying to Chandigarh University is quite simple. Students must register for CUCET through the official website by paying an application fee of INR 1,000. Once the results are out and you meet the minimum cutoff criteria which is usually 30%, the admission team will contact you for further details.

Which college should I prefer: KMC, Manipal or HIMS, Dehradun for MBBS?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : September 28th, 2023

Without any second thoughts, choose KMC Manipal over HIMS Dehradun. Joining a private college is not considered very wise but it’s not in the case of KMC because

  • Its crowd quality is exceptionally good. It's an old college.
  • It’s one of the oldest private medical colleges and most Govt Colleges so it has come to establish a reputation of its own.
  • It’s the only private medical college that has churned out so many generations of successful doctors.
  • It offers excellent medical education and its fees are comparatively less than other private colleges.
  • The institute boasts of a well-equipped sports complex called MARENA.
  • An amazing campus life with enough exposure to extracurricular activities.
  • The Manipal campus is extremely beautiful and offers a good academic ambiance.

Overall, the opportunities this college has to offer make it an excellent choice.

Is George Brown a better college than Algonquin College?

PG
Prateek Ghose Posted On : January 13th, 2021
Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology

Both George Brown College and Algonquin College are among the top public colleges in Canada. Securing 4654th position in the World Ranking List. In many practical aspects GBC is definitely a better college than Algonquin. First of all, it has an advantage due to its location- it is located in downtown Toronto which is a prime location and a better place for students to live and look for opportunities.

Ranking and reputation wise as well, it outranks Algonquin. Also, it is recommended that you opt for a 2 year program so that there is enough time for you to get a work permit. Since the fees may be high for some, it will help you make it more affordable. George Brown College offers a variety of programs in the field of :Engineering Technology, Health Science, Arts and Culture, Finance, Hospitality and many more.

The following table gives a brief comparison of both colleges:

Just like George Brown College, Algonquin College provides various full-time and part-time coop oriented programs in the domains of arts, engineering, technology, medical sciences, management and more.

If you are academically better and still have a chance to improve your grades and GRE scores, then it's better to apply for universities instead of colleges. This will be more helpful for you in the long run.

Should I take DTU ECE or MNNIT Allahabad CSE as a DASA student?

AS
Angana Sen Posted On : April 30th, 2021
MNNIT Allahabad

Firstly, you need to understand what your priority is before choosing any one of them. In short, if you are very branch-specific and want CSE as your forte then go for MNNIT Allahabad without giving it a second thought. On the other hand, if you are looking for overall growth then choose DTU any day. Here’s why:

  • DTU being situated in the capital city makes it easy to get numerous opportunities for placement and internships.
  • Although academics are a priority, DTU offers better exposure to college life other than just academics. For example, ample extracurricular activities, fests, better social network, infrastructure, and facilities.
  • Also, there is better exposure for MBA and MS at DTU, if you are interested in AI or robotics.

Overall, if you are not branch-specific and can make up your mind for ECE, then choose DTU. While, if CSE is your pool of interest then go for MNNIT Allahabad. MNNIT has a huge Alumni Network and CS curriculum is good too.

Which one will be a better choice, Jadavpur University in chemical (WBJEE rank 771) or IIEST Shibpur in electronics (JEE Main rank 11,680)?

SS
Surjya Sen Posted On : April 12th, 2021
B.E. Electrical Engineering, Jadavpur University (2019)

Choosing the college depends upon personal preference. If you have any skill for either of the subjects, go for it irrespective of the institute. Both of the institutes are good and will provide you with tremendous opportunities.

The table shows a brief overview of the institutions.

Particulars

JU

IIEST

Median Salary

19.96 lakhs

6.5 lakhs

Highest Salary

58 lakhs

39 lakhs

Fees

Rs. 9,600

Rs. 5.36 lakhs

However, if you don’t have a subject preference then here are few things that you should consider.

  • Electronics as a specialization has got a booming market, which is demanded to create a lot of jobs presently.
  • IIEST, becoming accredited with central status i.e Institute of National Importance, receives central government funding, as compared to state government funding for Jadavpur University. Therefore the infrastructure of IIEST is way better than Jadavpur University.
  • IIEST now admits students from all over India, so you will get to interact with students from all over the country. This will boost your learning experience a lot.

Overall, if you need to decide between the given two choices then you should opt for Electronics at IIEST.
