What is asked in critical thinking and GE at IMT Ghaziabad?

AV
Ashmita Verma Posted On : February 4th, 2022
studied at Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad

IMT Ghaziabad shortlists students based on their cumulative weighted average of academic scores, work experience (if any), and score obtained in CT-GE-PI, i.e. Critical Thinking-Group Excercise-Personal Interview.

From a few years back, IMT Ghaziabad adopted a slightly different approach regarding its selection procedure. Here is a brief insight into it.

Critical Thinking:

The process starts with the critical thinking step. You will be given a topic, which is socially relevant and debatable. You will need to present your argument for or against it. This test aims to evaluate critical thinking, creativity, and written communication skills.

You may get a topic like - ‘National Anthem in cinema hall is not a real test of patriotism’.

Group Excercise:

In this exercise, you will be divided into small groups. Each group is given a problem to solve or a task to perform. You need to perform the exercise by discussing it with your group members. They often provide props or kits for the task.

Example - Your group can be asked about the Govt. of India to design a new INR 1000 rupee currency note that would come into circulation later. Design the currency note by discussing your ideas. The various elements of design for the new currency note should have the contributions of each person.

GE aims to evaluate innovative thinking, leadership potential, interpersonal skills, communication, attitude.

The next step in the selection process is the personal interview. In the PI round, students are evaluated on their academics, versatility, communication skills, as well as values, and maturity.

How is the M.Tech in welding technology at NIT Trichy in terms of placements?

SM
Siddharth Mukharjee Posted On : September 15th, 2021
M.Tech Manufacturing Technology, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India (2018)

Welding technology has the distinct advantage of having some organizations who come to NIT Trichy solely to hire welding masters. In core welding firms, more than 50% placement is guaranteed. During the placement process, many software and mechanical firms visit the campus.

  • According to the recent placement highlights, the placement average for Welding Technology was around 60%. The placement average is less this year due to the ongoing pandemic.
  • The average CTC offered in the placement is 7-9 LPA.
  • The major recruiting companies that visit the campus are Tata Steel, Caterpillar, Lincoln, etc. NDT companies also recruit from Welding. If you have the required skills you can also sit for software and data science roles.
  • Almost 60% of the branch get placed in Mechanical core while the remaining 40% get placed in sectors like software, marketing, etc.

If you have good CGPA and decent communication skills then getting into core sectors from Welding Engineering at NIT Trichy will not be that difficult.

What is the GRE cutoff for ISB Hyderabad?

AK
Anindita Kundu Posted On : May 21st, 2021
MBA from Indian School of Business (2018)

Having friends at ISB Hyderabad, I got to know that there is no such cut-off for ISB.

  • Firstly the interview panel checks your overall achievements starting from schooling till your graduation level, in the curricular and co-curricular field.
  • They examine your entire profile for your selection. Then you get shortlisted for further selection.
  • Many of them did not manage to get very high scores in the GRE but still, got selected. It is just because of their aptitude that is reflected in their profile.
  • It is easier for those who already served in the Indian army and then decided to enter ISB. It has been seen that they have already cracked the SSB exam so they must have higher values like integrity, patience, and discipline imbibed in their personality.

Thus we can say that there is no particular cut-off, but for ISB, Hyderabad you are judged according to your entire profile.

How is a dual degree in mechanical engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar in comparison with NIT Surat (SVNIT) mechanical engineering?

SR
Sumit Rawat Posted On : March 2nd, 2024

I pursued my B.Tech Mechanical from SVNIT, thus, I can only comment on my college.

The faculty of the mechanical department is top notch. Majority of our teachers are highly driven. It is because of them that mechanical is the most famous branch of our college. Our teachers emphasize practical knowledge over mere theoretical understanding. Many of them have more than 10 years of experience in teaching. The department has enough professors, so very few courses are taken by TAs. The faculty is very helpful for projects and research work.

The curriculum for B.Tech Mechanical is very rich, and you’ll get to choose one elective per semester in the 3rd and 4th year. You can choose courses from other branches as well. You can choose management courses, programming courses, physics related courses, automobile courses, etc. SVNIT is probably the only college that teaches its students topics like Mechatronics, Computational fluid mechanics (CFD), Cryogenics, etc. at the UG level itself.

Unfortunately, like most other colleges, our practical syllabus and lab equipment needs to be upgraded. The labs do not contain equipment of the latest technology. The workshop contains all conventional and non conventional machines like lathe, shoper, milling, grinding, welding, abrasive jet machine, EDM, 3-D printer, etc.

As far as B.Tech Mechanical at SVNIT is concerned, I would say it is quite a decent option.

What is the typical working style of IIT Gandhinagar (IITGN) administration?

VT
Vishal Thakkar Posted On : March 16th, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (2014)

Well frankly speaking the academic environment of IITGN has already deteriorated to a large degree.

Just a few months ago, one of my friends said that the IITGN director has started a poll to re-evaluate the academic climate due to pressure. Such a poll is actually novel in an academic institute. Interestingly the poll is conducted by his hired persons. Consequently, the result was very clear that the intention is to show with fake results, compiled by his own people, that everything is great there.

The students of IITGN had to endure various struggles because of the director who resembles to be mentally unstable to many colleagues. What actually happens in IITGN is nothing less than a dictatorial regime, where you will observe that the ruler always tries to promote their betterment to the outside world by publishing pictures, fake polls, and surveys, twisted or fabricated news items that people are so happy and loyal under their rule.

Whereas in reality, the only notion on people’s minds is absolute fear and hatred for the ruler. Remember some of the widely circulated pictures of Hitler hugging little kids, or of a smiling Kim Jong-Un being embraced by female fans. IIT Gandhinagar's administration style is pretty similar to that.

How can I get a scholarship in BITS, Pilani?

DR
Deepshikha Roy Posted On : June 27th, 2023
studied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

BITS Pilani provides 2 types of scholarships to its students.

  1. Merit Scholarship: This scholarship is granted on the basis of your CGPA in the ongoing semester. On average 10 students from every batch get 100% off and another 10 students get 40% off on tuition fees. Students are required to fulfill the cutoff to become eligible for this scholarship.
  2. Merit cum Need scholarship: This considers two factors; your CGPA and your parent's annual income. If your family income is less than 10 LPA you are eligible for this scholarship given that your CGPA is above 7. Here, the scholarship is directly proportional to your CGPA.

How difficult is it getting a CGPA of 9.5+ in 1st semester of BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus?

SG
Shayash Gupta Posted On : June 28th, 2023
PhD from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (2016)

My cousin managed to score a GPA of 9.69 in the first semester at BITS Pilani and claimed it not to be as challenging as everyone claims it to be. In fact, in her batch, almost 50 out of 1100 students had a GPA >=9.5 and 9 students had a GPA of 10.

Every single degree student except EEE has to study the following subjects

  • General Biology(3 units) (Specific)
  • Electrical Sciences(3 units ) (Specific)
  • Mathematics-I (3 units) (Common)
  • Technical Report Writing (2 units) (Specific)
  • Workshop Practice ( 2 units) (Specific)
  • Physics, Chemistry, and Biology Lab (1 unit) (Common)

Here, specific means EEE and dual degree students don’t study these courses, common means the courses they have in common. In all, you have 16 units which makes a total of 160 points. In order to score a 9.5+ GPA, you will have to score more than 152 points

Lastly, to get full marks in tutorial tests, make sure you are regular in classes and focus on the ongoing topics.

Which is better, chemical engineering from UICET PU Chandigarh, chemical engineering from Thapar University Patiala or computer science from CCET Chandigarh (affiliated to PU)?

PK
Pankaj Kumar Posted On : August 5th, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2019)

Having a few friends from both institutes I might be able to share some facts about both the institutes. Chemical Engineering at UICET is better than Chemical at Thapar University or CSE at CCET.

  • UICET is a well-renowned university and has a reputed department.
  • They have brilliant placement records and a strong alumni base.
  • Laboratories and faculty at UICET are better than those at Thapar.
  • Course fees at UICET for chemical engineering are very less than that in Thapar University.
  • Thapar is no doubt a well-reputed university but as far as chemical engineering is concerned UICET is better.
  • CCET is affiliated with PU located in sector-26 Chandigarh. It is well known for its diploma courses.
  • However, UICET is any day better than CCET in all terms.
Categories Chemical Engineering at UICET Chemical Engineering at Thapar University CSE at CCET Chandigarh
Course Fee INR 70,079 13.23 lakh 2.45 lakh
Highest CTC 18 LPA 15 LPA 12 LPA
Average CTC 6.31 LPA 7 LPA 4-5 LPA
Recruiting Companies Honeywell, Reliance, Pfizer, Piramal Healthcare, etc. Reliance, GAIL, ONGC, GlaxoSmithKline, etc. Infosys, Godrej, L&T, HCL, etc.

Your preference order should be Chemical Engineering at UICET> Chemical at Thapar University> CSE at CCET.
