What is meant by an IIIT Delhi rank?

AD
Arohi Dasgupta Posted On : October 9th, 2023
studied at Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi

IIIT Delhi admits students into its B.Tech courses based on these ranks. IIIT Delhi ranks are released after taking into account both the JEE Main ranks and the bonus marks (awarded to eligible students).

Bonus marks are awarded for remarkable achievement in National Olympiads (NSEC, INMO, etc), KVPY, NTSE, FIDE ratings (chess), and much more.

The final rank list contains both kinds of students- those who got bonus marks, and those who did not. Admissions are finally done on the basis of this ranking list.

Studied at National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur (2015)

First of all, you need to realize that not being able to make it into IITs and IIITs does not mean you have failed in life. You still have many chances to explore. As a freshman, the first and most important point is to adopt a positive mindset. Here are some Additional things first-year students of NIT Hamirpur need to know

  • Build a strong bond with the seniors if you want to have a good alumni network. Also, they guide and advise you, helping you to take big steps.
  • Don’t shy away from asking doubts from your professors during lectures.
  • Don’t fear undertaking any wild and innovative idea.
  • Explore the beauty of Himachal. This is the biggest perk of being a student of NIT Hamirpur.
  • Start reading research papers, right from the first year.

Does Anna university give more marks for more pages?

HN
Hardik Nagar Posted On : December 28th, 2022

No, Anna university does not give more marks for more pages. The Anna University system as a whole cannot be blamed for the wrongdoings of a few individuals.

In college, you will encounter both types of professors. Some professors never assign notes or self-study topics that exceed 40 pages in the entire semester. Because it is a government college, some professors would only attend 20 of the 45 lectures during the semester.

Another side of the coin is that some professors will only give you marks based on your answers, regardless of how many pages you write. One could receive the highest grade simply by providing appropriate answers for 30 pages or receive arrears for writing irrelevant material for 40 pages. Everything depends on the professor who handles the paper.

How is Mathematics taught at NIT Hamirpur?

SV
Shivangi Verma Posted On : September 13th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur (2019)

The teaching methodology for Math is a bit disappointing at NIT Hamirpur.

Mostly the faculty refers to Dr. Sunil’s notes for teaching, even though they can refer to any source. The problem arises when question papers contain the same example questions that are present in these notes. This promotes cramming. Students simply cram all the steps of example questions and rewrite them in their answer sheets.

This is an injustice to those who are genuinely interested in Mathematics. If you are one of them, you will learn only the concepts. With some effort, you will eventually solve the exam questions. However, you will also require a while to first understand each question. Eventually, you’ll solve a lesser number of questions than the person who crammed all the steps.

This system has a detrimental effect on a student’s interest in Mathematics. Cramming becomes the most effective route towards scoring top grades. This will leave you in a dilemma- either you can run behind marks, or the pure joy of mathematical problem-solving. The best way of reviving your interest is through free online courses.

Thus, Math teaching is not good at NIT Hamirpur. This practice needs to change.

Is MANIT Bhopal a good college for a B.Arch?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : November 11th, 2023

MANIT Bhopal is a good college for Architecture. But a college completely devoted to Architecture and Planning is a better choice.

At such colleges, one has access to a strong alumni base. Apart from that, we get the right outlook for the field and a central library full of new architecture books. These colleges have digital labs with new architecture software. The crowd over there is completely devoted to the field of Architecture. These colleges organize dedicated seminars and guest lectures on Architecture and Planning. It is a huge boost to one’s self-esteem as an Architect in making.

At NITs/state engineering colleges, our engineering friends receive placement one year ahead. But, one has an almost negligible chance of campus placement. SPA/CEPT won’t offer placements either, but this won’t be as demoralizing. Their strong alumni network allows us the chance to work in a firm through a senior’s recommendation.

Thus, I would recommend you opt for SPA, CEPT, or other Architecture colleges for your B.Arch.

Which is a better college for engineering, IIIT Jabalpur or NIT Silchar, and Why?

SG
Sudipta Ghose Posted On : August 25th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology Silchar (2020)

Since you did not mention your branch, I will draw a general comparison between IIIT Jabalpur and NIT Silchar that will help you choose one

  • IIIT Jabalpur offers UG courses under three branches only namely CSE, ECE, and Mechanical while NIT Silchar offers a number of courses in a variety of branches both at UG and PG level.
  • NIT Silchar is an old institute while IIIT Jabalpur is relatively new.
  • IIIT Jabalpur focuses solely on IT courses while NIT Silchar has many diverse courses.
  • NIT Silchar has no international collaborations while IIIT Jabalpur has collaborations with Universities of Japan that offer immense exposure and opportunities.
  • The placement scenario however is the same and in fact last year the highest package at both institutes hovered around INR 44 LPA.
  • Location-wise, Jabalpur gives an edge to NIT Silchar as it has better connectivity and places to explore.

Overall, choosing IIIT Jabalpur with its modern curriculum and infrastructure is more beneficial than going for NIT Silchar.

Is NSIT over-hyped?

SM
Senjuti Mitra Posted On : August 24th, 2023
Studied at Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (Graduated 2022)

To determine if NSUT Delhi is over-hyped or not we need to compare someone’s before joining and after joining. One of my friends shared what he heard about NSUT that tempted him to join it

  • NSUT Delhi students get placed at tech giants like Google with 2 Crore packages
  • NSUT students have a record of cracking Civil Services Exams each year.
  • The students are so talented that many get selected for MIT or similar top universities.
  • The institute offers many nontech opportunities too through companies like JP Morgan, Bane, Goldman Sachs, etc
  • NSIT has an amazing peer group
  • The cultural fest Moksha witnesses performances of top artists like Edward Maya and Akcent.

Here is what he observed after joining NSUT Delhi:

  • Students get placed in tech giants like Google and Microsoft but only a handful around 4-5 students.
  • Students securing good marks in UPSC are very around 10 students each year and they are extremely hardworking
  • Only 2-3 extremely hardworking NSITians get selected for institutes like MIT
  • The '200% placement' is not true but an exaggeration.
  • The crowd quality is great for top branches like COE, IT, and ECE but not for average branches like ICE, MPAE, and BT.
  • The cultural fest Moksha was quite unknown until foreign artists like Akcent, and Edward Maya performed here,

So the hype it gets is true but only to a certain extent. People do exaggerate things and some might even feel that it’s over-hyped.

How is the material science program at Anna University?

VB
Vishal Bagla Posted On : December 16th, 2022
Post Graduate Diploma in in Business Analytics, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (Graduated 2019)

Material Sciences in CEG started 9 years before and in such a short span it has gained recognition. It has made a significant contribution to the research of the country. The significance of the program has been described on the basis of the following aspects.

Research: Research is the most impressive feature of this course. The funding provided by the Center for Technology Development and Transfer during the third year is extremely helpful and encourages students to take up research.

Faculty: Although the faculty is extremely supportive, some of them lack specialization in materials science.

Course: The course has a variety of options for electives. It is extremely structured and moderate-paced.

Infrastructure: This is where the course lacks the most. It does not have a separate department and operates under the department of Mechanical Engineering. Also, there is a lack of equipment required for the course.

Alumni: The number of alumni is less as the course has recently started. But most of them are now working at extremely good universities around the world and India or are placed in very good companies (both in core materials science and IT).

Internships: CEG renders excellent exposure. A vast amount of undergrads perform research in various laboratories across the world during their second and third years. This helps in securing jobs in the future.

Is CSE at IIIT Delhi really a core CS course or an IT based course?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : October 9th, 2023

I am a first-year CSE student at IIIT Delhi. All the related subjects in CSE have more theory than required by an average Computer Engineer.

Here are some details on each subject you’ll learn during the 1st and 2nd semesters of this course:

1st semester-

  • System Management: You’ll learn the theory part through video lectures. You’ll learn a lot about concepts like the Anatomy of a recording disk, the difference between file systems, etc. The practical work will include disassembling an electronic device, video presentations, hardware projects, general shell scripting, etc.
  • Intro to Programming: It is a usual programming language course. You’ll learn a lot of theory in it.
  • Digital Circuits: You’ll study theory about the smallest of operations possible in a processor and basic computer architecture.
  • Linear Algebra: It is a math course, but a prerequisite for courses like Image Processing. It includes a lot of theory.

2nd semester-

  • Computer Organization: You’ll learn Computer Architecture in this. The subject is more theoretical and less practical. You won’t have regular labs. But the prescribed book for this subject is pretty good.
  • Data Structures and Algorithms: It is the best subject according to me. You’ll learn concepts, pseudo concepts, time and space complexities in lectures, and actual codes in lab sessions.

By describing each subject during the first year of CSE, I tried to resolve your query to some extent. The curriculum will move forward in a similar manner for the remaining years.

How is chemical engineering in VIT Pune?

ST
Shruti Thakur Posted On : October 16th, 2023
Lives in Pune, Maharashtra, India

VIT's Chemical Engineering degree is highly regarded as it offers the best chemical engineering degree in the entire state.

  • Faculty: VIT Pune's chemical engineering department has many well-versed professors, most of them being PhD holders.
  • Placements/ Like any other Institute, code chemical engineering placements are average as most students prefer going to IT companies.
  • Exposure: Students are offered excellent exposure through an association called CHESA which conducts events like seminars, guest lectures, workshops, etc.

Overall, Chemical Engineering at VIT Pune is a self-driven department so the students will be learning much more than just core concepts.
