Which is better for ChE, IIT BHU or IIT Guwahati?

AG
Aparna Ghosal Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2019)

Both institutions are equally good and reputed so it’s difficult to determine which institute is better. As IIT BHU is an old institution it offers a large alumni base which results in excellent placement. In 2019 a total of 104 students from chemical engineering was employed. The average salary package ranged between 10 LPA to 58.21 LPA. Whereas there was 71% placement for chemical engineering in IIT Guwahati with average placement package 15.5 LPA. IIT BHU is comparatively better in terms of placement.

For research, IIT Guwahati stands out because of its immaculate infrastructure in addition to well-equipped labs, course curriculum, faculties, and methodologies of teaching. In the field of research activities, it is way ahead of IIT-BHU.

How many marks are needed to get into IIT BHU?

RS
Ranit Singh Posted On : August 14th, 2020
M.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2017)

If you are taking JEE Advance in 2020 then you can refer to 2019 opening and closing rank for IIT BHU. Each year the difference between the previous and current year’s rank is minimal and the cut off is expected to be close. The cut-off may vary each year depending upon various factors such as the number of students appearing and difficulty level. Other than this, cut-off also varies according to the category, such as Gender, Caste and Department. So, to get an admission into IIT BHU, the rank can be expected to be as high as 800 and can also be stretched up to 9000.

The opening and closing ranking vary a lot with respect to which branch you are seeking, so check the cut-off list thoroughly before coming to a conclusion. The ranks also depend upon the round of counselling, generally, the cut-off tends to decrease as counselling rounds increases, therefore, opening rank is decided by the first round and closing rank is decided by the last round of counselling. Usually, seven rounds of counselling are expected to take place.

Is there any attendance rule in IIT BHU?

AR
Aditya Raghav Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi

Yes, attendance rule is there in IIT BHU Varanasi. Students are required to maintain a minimum of 85% attendance. If anyone fails to maintain the cut-off attendance, they may have to repeat the subject as professors sometimes award Z grade to students with less than 85% attendance.

But it mostly depends on the professor of that subject. Some professor follows this rule strictly while some may don’t. So, to be safe students should maintain a minimum of 85 percent attendance. It's only for theoretically class, some professor wants 90 percent or above attendance in Lab Classes. So, the conclusion is that there is a rule of compulsory attendance (85%), but it depends on a professor.

Raktim Dasgupta Posted On : February 16th, 2022
B.Tech Studying Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi

Yes, IIT BHU offers a branch change option. 10% of seats are reserved for branch change. You can change your branch after your first semester. The shortlist for branch change is made based on CPI (Cumulative Performance Index) and PI.

You can only change your branch from a 4-year program to another 4-year program or from a 5-year program to another 5-year program. Changing branch from a 4-year program to a 5-year program isn’t allowed. Also, it’s easier to change branches for 5-year courses. Changing branches for 4-year programs can be difficult as the competition is high.

Should I choose NIT Calicut CSE or IIT BHU chemical Engineering?

SB
Sumit Barua Posted On : August 27th, 2021
B.Tech from Jadavpur University (2021)

If you are interested in coding and aim to work in good corporate firms, then it is suggested that you go for CSE at NIT Calicut. But if you want an IIT tag, you can opt for IIT BHU. But this won't matter much afterward.

So, if you are focused on doing research then Chemical Engineering at IIT BHU will be a good option. You can also learn coding on the sidelines, which might be beneficial if you sit for placements.

Parametres CSE at NIT Calicut Chemical Engineering at IIT BHU
Tuition Fee INR 16,000 INR 6.7 LPA
Placement Percentage 73.5% 71%
Average Package INR 11.57 LPA INR 16.27 LPA

The choice of studying in a college pursuing a particular subject is entirely up to you. Check where your strengths and weaknesses lie and then choose accordingly. Both institutes are good in their own way. But it is your hard work and dedication that will prove if CSE or Chemical will be good for you.

Which has the better coding culture, IIT BHU or MNNIT Allahabad?

AS
Ashutosh Sahu Posted On : August 14th, 2020
M.Tech Biomedical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2013)

Both IIT BHU and MNNIT Allahabad are old and well-reputed colleges and offer good CSE programs in terms of academics and placements.

Being an old NIT, MNNIT Allahabad offers decent placement and the placement rate for CSE at this institute is around 97.60%. In the 2019, 163 students were placed out of 167 students from the CSE department and the average CTC offered was around 15.12 LPA. Whereas, the highest CTC went up to 36 LPA. IIT BHU had a 100% placement from the CSE department and the average CTC ranged between 10 LPA to 58 LPA.

But IIT BHU offers a better coding culture than MNNIT Allahabad. In IIT BHU almost every student gets engaged in coding, irrespective of their branch which makes for a rich coding culture on the campus. Many students were selected in Google Summer of Coding (GSoC) in 2018. Many freshers start competitive coding from the very beginning of their course. The programming society is quite active here, students participate in technical activities and various coding competitions. The results of inter IIT coding competitions are proof of IIT BHU’s growing popularity in coding.
