Why is IIM Ahmedabad not as good as Harvard, Stanford or Wharton?

BG
Banani Ghose Posted On : July 1st, 2022
M.B.A. from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

Harvard, Stanford, and Wharton are way older than IIM Ahmedabad. These B-Schools offers better academic structure, faculty, alumni base, and infrastructure. Also, students need at least 3 years or more of work experience to attend Harvard, Stanford, or Wharton. IIM Ahmedabad doesn’t have any such prerequisites.

  • These B-Schools offer more practical-oriented management education. An entrepreneurship class at HBS requires students to form a group, create a start-up model, pitch their ideas to guest investors, get funding and get it running before the semester ends. It helps students prepare better for the professional journey ahead.
  • HBS and Stanford have Nobel laureates, heads of international institutes, authors of international bestsellers, and directors of top consulting firms as a part of their faculty pool.
  • A typical bath profile of HBS will have people from every walks of life. You will share your lectures with investment bankers, military veterans, and professors. The peer learning scope is huge.
  • Stanford and Harvard have huge alumni bases. As a student of these institutes, you will get to network with them and find good career opportunities.

These are a few of the many reasons that put Harvard, Stanford, and Wharton well ahead of IIM Ahmedabad.

SP
Sanya Paul Posted On : May 20th, 2021
studied Journalism and Mass Communication & English Literature at Amity University, Gwalior (2019)

One of my friends who studied there mentioned Amity conducts admission via two processes. Both of the ways are easy whether it be online or offline. The admission process for PG and UG programs commences from January and March respectively.

For filling the admission form online:-

  • Visit the official website of Amity University and fill out the form giving out the necessary information.
  • Pay the admission fees which is generally Rs.1300. It takes about 3-5 working days to get it confirmed and you will be provided with the receipt in the admission portal.
  • After you pay the amount, you will be asked to submit important documents which include Aadhar Card, 10th Mark sheet, 12th Mark sheet, and passport size photo.
  • After this, you will be allotted the timings for the test or interview for the final step of admission.

For admission via offline method:-

  • Visit the office situated in any of the campuses and pay the fees in cash or through a demand draft.
  • They will give you the form. Fill it and submit it to them
  • After this show your original documents and submit a copy of the documents
  • After verification of the document, you will be allotted with the test timing or that of the interview

From a close experience of a friend, it is suggested that do not include any third person for admission.

AS
Arati Sinha Posted On : March 29th, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

If you are considering pursuing a Ph.D. at IIT-M, you might be interested in knowing about the similarities and differences between a regular Ph.D. and a direct Ph.D. Here's what you need to know:

Selection Procedure:

  • All Ph.D. candidates, whether applying for a regular or direct Ph.D., have to clear a written exam followed by an interview at the institute.

Coursework:

  • A regular Ph.D. scholar has to complete four courses, while a direct Ph.D. candidate has to complete eight courses.
  • If you are interested in a dual degree (i.e., MS by research and Ph.D.), you will need to complete two extra courses.

Comprehensive Exam:

  • After completing the coursework (usually taking two semesters), every candidate has to undergo a comprehensive exam consisting of a written test and an interview.
  • You will have two chances to clear the comprehensive exam.
  • If you fail to clear the comprehensive exam, you can still obtain an MS degree and get placed or join the Ph.D. program later.
  • The amount and quality of research work by both kinds of Ph.D. candidates are the same.

Financial Assistance:

  • A regular Ph.D. candidate is eligible for financial assistance once to attend any international conference outside India.
  • A direct Ph.D. candidate is eligible for financial assistance twice to attend an international conference outside India.
  • Both regular and direct Ph.D. candidates can attend any national/international conference within India once every semester with full financial assistance.

Stipend:

  • The stipend for regular Ph.D. candidates is up to five years.
  • The stipend for direct Ph.D. candidates is up to six years.

Pre-Post Doc Fellowship:

  • If you submit your degree within 4.5 years for a regular Ph.D. or 5 years for a direct Ph.D., you are eligible for a pre-postdoc fellowship.

Is MDI Gurgaon worth spending 16 lacs in fees?

SN
Samantha Nirmalya Posted On : March 6th, 2023
Analyst at DebriN Synergy (company) (2015–present)

If your priority is good placement opportunities and an excellent alumni network, Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon is a good option to consider. MDI was established in collaboration with several global institutions like UNDP, UNIDO, World Bank, and ILO, with initial support from KfW, West Germany, and IFCI. MDI is the first business school in India to receive accreditation from the Association of MBAs (AMBA). The faculty at MDI is of high quality, and there is an excellent learning culture, which gives you plenty of opportunities to enjoy your time while studying.

If you are searching for the best B-school in India in terms of placement, ROI, infrastructure, alumni network, faculty, and other factors, MDI Gurgaon always ranks between 5 to 10. Other top-ranked B-schools in India include IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, XLRI, SPJIMR, IIM K, IIM I, SJMSOM IIT Bombay, and many others.

If you are searching for B-schools ranked by placement, the top schools include IIM A, IIM B, IIM C, FSM Delhi, SPJIMR, MDI G, XLRI, IIFT, IIM K, and NMIMS Mumbai. By considering your priorities and looking at various rankings and factors, you can make an informed decision about which B-school is the best fit for you.

Is the scope of IIT Delhi textile engineering good?

DS
Dipti Sinha Posted On : April 1st, 2023
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (2022)

My sister was a student at IIT Delhi in Textile Engineering and shared the disappointing experience that made her regret her decision a lot. The department is in its infancy and is the least demanded branch. Likewise, it offers the least average package at around INR 13 LPA and the lowest at INR 6 LPA.

  • Opportunities for a good job and package are scarce and the highest pay offered is even less than the pay of your friends with the lowest marks in schools
  • You will have to work hard and grasp a lot of concepts to maintain a good CPI only then you can target an MBA
  • The curriculum is rigid and does not challenge your learning and problem-solving capabilities.
  • The worth of the branch is so less that even your IIT tag does not come to your rescue during placements.
  • Most students go for non-core jobs roles like consultancy, data analysis or coding.
  • Few or no core job offers are made to the students of this branch

The branch does not do justice to the institute's brand name and thus I strongly recommend you against joining Textile Engineering at IIT Delhi.

What is the major difference between private engineering college and government engineering college students in india?

DD
Debarshi Dey Posted On : May 18th, 2021
Studied Mechanical Engineering at Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata (2020)

Apart from parameters like the merit of students, the difference in fees, etc. But, in addition to that, there are quite a few differences between private engineering colleges and government engineering colleges.

  • Classes in government colleges have a duration of 3 to 4 hours but in the case of private colleges, classes can go on for 6 to 7 hours.
  • The faculty of government colleges is not that friendly. They are always found busy with something.
  • Even though the teachers of a government college teach very little, the standard of teaching in government colleges is far better than private colleges.
  • Students of private colleges will always be found busy studying or completing assignments. The students of private colleges are hard workers.
  • Contrary to popular belief, government colleges do not have a lot of brand value. There are fewer chances of your being considered if you are not from a big college or NITs or IITs.
  • Private colleges provide more internships and more attractive employment opportunities than government colleges do.
  • The systems of government colleges are slow in nature and so it is rare to find labs and workshops of the colleges in good condition. It takes an eternity if the equipment is damaged.
  • Students of government colleges are much more capable of cracking exams like ESE, CAT, and GATE. They even outdo others by their performances.

However, not all who have passed from government colleges have made it big in life and more or less the same can be said about the students who have graduated from private universities. What matters is how you are making use of our college life. If you are passionate enough, you can get through any hurdle.

Government colleges also charge far fewer fees from the students than what private universities charge. So, there is financial freedom.

B.A. from University of Madras

Students should avoid completely relying on IGNOU study materials. They must prepare with the understanding that regardless of whether they obtain or do not obtain those recommended books and notes, their preparation must be fully operational and effective.

Apart from downloading the materials and studying them online, you should purchase the IGNOU Help Book for particular subjects of GULLY BABA PUBLICATION.

Is SIRT Bhopal a good college?

EG
Eshita Ghose Posted On : June 24th, 2021
B.E. Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Sagar Institute of Research and Technology: SIRT Bhopal (2016)

My friend was from the 2012-16 batch and he didn’t have a good experience at the institute. Here is what he had to say about the institute.

Faculty:

SIRT Bhopal is indeed a good college that comes along with an even better faculty who are experienced and helpful towards their students. The number of such great faculty members is few in number.

Infrastructure:

The labs are inefficient and there. The "Central Library" they claim to have and boast about has books that are torn. Otherwise, there are decent facilities like a good auditorium, big classes.

Placements:

They claim to give 100% placement, but you will be disappointed eventually. TCS is the only essential MNC to show up and leave with a maximum number of 10 students. Once they have left, all you are left around with are companies that do not offer a satisfactory package.

Average CTC

3.8 LPA

Highest CTC

10 LPA

Major recruiters

IBM, Jaro Education, Hexaware

Placement average

80%

But if we talk about the management system, it still has a lot to work on.

Is NTTF worth joining?

JS
Jyoti Singhania Posted On : September 7th, 2021
Studied Diploma in Computer Engineering and Cloud Computing at NTTF, 2020

NTTF is particularly renowned for its practical-oriented learning pedagogy. In fact, the curriculum has more practical learning than any theory at all. However, here are some points to take into consideration.

  1. The courses offered by NTTF are diploma-oriented and they are not equal to any Engineering courses.
  2. Most significantly, you can secure on-campus placements, if only you are highly efficient in cases like these. However, you should make informed decisions regarding similar factors, otherwise ending up at some clerical service jobs is pretty easy.
  3. Most of the alumni students have studied at NEC Bangalore, clearly meaning that they have been exposed to good infrastructure for various lab activities.

The major pitfall that many people anticipate is that diploma courses do not have many options for a job. Thus, choose after you have researched more about your prospects.
