You have a pretty good chance of getting admission. Keep in mind, however, that admission depends on various criteria, which change every year. Your performance in the interview is one of the key determining factors.

One of the aims of the liberal arts course of IIM Kozhikode is that it seeks the representation of students from every academic background like science, commerce, and arts.

Apart from the diversity in academics, they also look for diversity in gender. These factors determine admission at the end of the day.

Which B-school should I choose among XLRI Jamshedpur (BM), MDI Gurgaon, and IIM Kozhikode, if I am interested in marketing/strategy roles post MBA?

All three colleges are well-regarded in business. To choose between XLRI Jamshedpur (BM), MDI Gurgaon, and IIM Kozhikode, consider these things.

  1. Specialization: All three institutions offer MBA programs with specializations in marketing and strategy. However, XLRI Jamshedpur is known for its strength in HR management, while MDI Gurgaon has a strong focus on operations and supply chain management. IIM Kozhikode also offers a variety of specialized courses in areas like analytics, finance, and entrepreneurship in addition to marketing and strategy.
  2. Industry Exposure: All three institutions have strong industry connections and offer ample opportunities for industry exposure through internships, live projects, and guest lectures.

I would suggest you go for XLRI BM because it is the biggest name among the three choices that you have. Also, XLRI being the oldest B-school in the country and famed for its HR has alumni working in the HR department of all the major companies out there and you can leverage this alumni network to get greater prospects in the future.

All the companies in consulting and marketing profiles that visit IIM K or MDI also do visit XLRI and one won't miss out on anything but will only gain by being an XLRI Alumni. It is the oldest B-school and a worthy rival to IIM C which puts it in a league above IIM K or MDI.

Which of the following is better in terms of placements: IIM K, IIM I, ISB, FMS or XLRI?

A
Admin Posted On : February 1st, 2024

ISB caters to working professionals with more than 2 years of experience. If you do not belong to this category, this institution is not for you.

Now coming to the other options,

The HR program of XLRI is very old and renowned. Because of it, XLRI receives a slightly higher number of recruiters. This boosts its average package. Its limited batch size also benefits its placements. IIMK, FMS and XLRI receive more or less the same companies. But IIMK and XLRI attract MBB (McKinsey, Bain, BCG) for their front end roles, which IIMI and FMS do not.

Considering all these factors, XLRI is the best choice, mainly because of its small batch size. It is followed by IIMK and FMS, and IIM Indore comes last.

What should I choose between SPJIMR marketing (PGDM) and IIM Kozhikode (PGP), having converted both?

NK
Naveen Kukreja Posted On : November 17th, 2022
Former MBA Participant at S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) (2016–2018)

There are a few factors to consider before making a final decision.

  1. Brand: Those who are truly immersed in the MBA world understand that the IIM tag looks best with suffixes A, B, or C. Also, private institutions are far superior to many of the lower-ranked IIMs. Given the formidable brand, SPJIMR has built around itself, it is no less than an IIM, if not an IIMK.
  2. Curriculum: There will be no significant differences in curriculum because all of the great institutes have world-class faculty and a systematically designed curriculum. With its Global Fast Track (3 Week Program at Top US Universities) and Non-Classroom Initiatives, SPJIMR can provide an added advantage.
  3. Placements: SPJIMR has a consistently high placement rate across all four specializations, with a high average package and number of different roles available. IIM Kozhikode, on the other hand, has fallen short of expectations in terms of placement performance, particularly in the last 2-3 years, with the average package not rising above a certain point.
  4. Batch Dimensions: When it comes to placements, it is a major concern. SPJIMR has a perfect batch size of 241, whereas IIMK has a larger batch size, making placements more difficult.
  5. Fees: Both institutes have similar fee structures. However, with a higher average package, SPJIMR performs well in terms of ROI.

After all, it is your decision which institute to attend.

XLRI BM is the better option. It is an old B-School and ranks right after IIM A, B, and C. It has a large and varied alumni network. You will find XLRI alumni in almost every reputed companies.

XLRI BM has a smaller batch size. So, it’s easier for students to get decent job opportunities. XLRI placements are great. During the 2022 placement drive, the average CTC received by the students was INR 30 LPA.

What is the CAT cutoff for IIM -K?

MS
Mahak Sengupta Posted On : April 14th, 2023
PDGM from Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (2016)

IIM Kozhikode CAT cutoff varies every year and is dependent on various factors such as the difficulty level of the exam, the number of test-takers, and the number of available seats. Generally, IIMs consider various parameters while selecting candidates such as academic background, work experience, diversity, and CAT scores.

For the admission process in the academic year 2022-23, CAT cutoff for IIM-K was 94 percentile for general category candidates. However, the cutoff can vary every year and it is always advisable for the candidates to aim for a higher percentile to increase their chances of getting admission into their desired institute. Additionally, it's important to note that the CAT cutoff is not the only criterion considered for admission in IIM-K, as the institute also gives weightage to the candidate's academic record, work experience, and performance in the personal interview and written ability test.
