Which one is better-NIT Uttarakhand or NIT Meghalaya?

NS
Niti Shukla, Posted On : October 25th, 2021
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Meghalaya (2016)

The choice generally depends on the certain individual and what he prefers. Both of these institutes started in the same year. They are both new NITs so they come with their fair share of pros and cons.

  • One of my friends did his Master’s from NIT Meghalaya. According to him, it still has a lot to work on and improve, be it their infrastructure, research grants, etc.
  • The permanent campus is under construction.
  • The Electrical Engineering department has better-equipped labs than the other departments.
  • If you are willing to pursue a Master’s program then it is recommended you opt for any other college rather than the two mentioned.
Categories NIT Uttarakhand NIT Meghalaya
Course Fee 5.82 lakh 6.1 lakh
Placement Percentage 80% 80%
Highest CTC 15 LPA 11-12 LPA
Average CTC 6 LPA 6-7 LPA
Recruiting Companies Amazon, TCS, etc. Vedanta, L&T, etc.

NIT Uttarakhand and NIT Meghalaya are both tier 3 institutions, so the outcome of graduating from these will definitely differ. Though NIT Uttarakhand has been known to improve their placements every year. But they have a lot to develop to reach the status of tier 1 or 2 colleges.

How was your experience in NIT Calicut if you are a North Indian?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : August 19th, 2023

Here is my experience of staying at NIT Calicut as a North Indian-

  1. Climate- Kozhikode experiences extreme showers during monsoon season. If you belong to a place where it rarely rains, you will find it even more difficult to adjust to the climate. During summers, scorching heat is accompanied by humidity. Standing under direct sunlight will drench you in sweat.
  2. Food- The mess food is not good but the vicinity has some restaurants that serve decent food. However, their North Indian meals are not good. The city does have some Punjabi restaurants which will not disappoint you.Non-vegetarians have plenty of mouth-watering delicacies to choose from, but vegetarians have limited food options. I highly recommend shakes from the mini canteen.
  3. Language- The localities, especially auto drivers, speak only Malayali. Therefore, you will face some inconvenience. Inside the campus, however, people speak and understand English clearly. They can also understand (but not speak) Hindi.

You will feel culture shock when you first arrive at NIT Calicut. But as time goes by, you will start loving this place and your college.

What is a way to know my old semester marks from Anna University online?

PS
Pratiksha Sen Posted On : December 3rd, 2022
Studied at Anna University, Tamil Nadu, India

From the release of the end-of-semester results until the deadline for applying for re-evaluation and photocopies of the answer sheets, students will have access to the online mark sheet. Check the email sent to your account that is connected to ACOE SEMS if you missed this. You receive a mark sheet in the mail that only includes the grade points—not the attendance rate or assessment scores. If for some reason, the mail wasn't delivered, you can request to see the mark sheet at the ACOE office or from your department's head, who enters the grades for the hard copy, if they are responsible for doing so.

The only other choice is to wait until the end of the following semester when they distribute the hard copies if none of this passes muster. It is suggested that you check your marks within the allotted time and take a screenshot or save the pdf form to prevent such situations.

How is VNIT Nagpur?

AR
Arjita Shivaji Ray Posted On : October 30th, 2023
VNIT Nagpur - Mechanical Engineering

I am a student of VNIT Nagpur.

According to me, It is important to highlight the negative aspects of my college. They are-

  1. VNIT has the highest hostel fee among all IITs and NITs, and it increases every 1-2 years.
  2. The college administration is not responsible or student friendly at all.
  3. The student council simply communicates official orders from the administration to students. This is because its members are selected by the administration itself.
  4. The clubs aren’t provided proper funds. Even the tech and cultural fest aren’t financially supported by the college.
  5. M.Tech placements are very poor because the professors do not permit industrial training.
  6. The Training and Placement Cell charges extra money, other than the TnP charges mentioned by the college.
  7. The professors are allotted subjects of which they don’t even have an expertise.
  8. No leaves are given for internships at prestigious universities like CMU, MIT, and Stanford.
  9. The refundable caution money is not given back.

VNIT is a well known institute. However, its administration has failed the students. A lot of changes need to be made in the functioning of this college.

How is the IIT Madras online course?

AS
Arati Sinha Posted On : March 30th, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

The online Programming and Data Science course offered by IIT Madras is an additional diploma that can be completed in 3-6 years. Despite the increasing demand, I think this course lacks the necessary rigor and is unnecessary.

  1. This course is usually undertaken by those who are already pursuing an offline engineering course alongside. Some even find it challenging to complete online assignments and give exams at their regular college.
  2. A major part of the curriculum is already available on NPTEL. The only additional benefits are the assignments, tests, and the diploma certificate at the end. Thus, if you are solely after the knowledge and content, many other better colleges and online portals offer the course at a much lower price.
  3. Most students choose this course for the IIT tag. But you don’t get to experience IIT campus life which is unique in itself. The students are always busy with some research work or learning new skills. You miss out on all these despite the high fees you are paying.

Ultimately you decide to make consider the pros and cons of the course. It’s advisable to talk to someone who has completed this course to get a better understanding of it.

Is it true that in NIT Trichy, Calicut, and other south colleges the professors teach in Malayalam or other regional languages?

VS
Vaani Singh Posted On : July 18th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2017)

No, it's not true that professors in NIT Trichy, Calicut, and other South Indian schools teach in Malayalam or other regional languages. Most of the teachers are proficient in English and classes are conducted in that medium only. Occasionally some professors out of habit may speak a word or two in their regional language but it is not a requirement or the norm.

The official medium of instruction in these institutions is typically English. However, it's possible that, in some cases, professors may use regional languages as a teaching aid to help students understand complex technical concepts better.

How is the campus of NIT Durgapur?

SC
Suborno Chaterjee Posted On : September 7th, 2023
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology Durgapur (2017)

NIT Durgapur is older than 60 years and most of its infrastructure is in ruins. The condition of hostels and laboratories is pathetic but the overall situation is in control and no major obstacle is experienced in academics. NIT Durgapur has a relatively smaller campus than other colleges. So it's better organized too. Currently, new hostels are being constructed and academic buildings are being renovated. The campus still is lacking in terms of high-tech amenities. For example most colleges have an e-library, and NIT Durgapur has an old and small library. There are two playgrounds that are hardly functional.

NIT Durgapur has a visually pleasing campus surrounded by lush greenery. The campus has its pros and cons. In the end, the size of the campus does not determine your career but your passion does!

Is MANIT Bhopal mechanical good for girls?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : November 8th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

It is not about MANIT Bhopal or any other institute, it is about the branch. Mechanical is considered to be a tough branch, so girls usually steer away from opting for it. This is mainly because of the advice given by elders, and some age old perceptions.

As an alumnus of MANIT B.Tech Mechanical, I would like to share my experiences with you. I was the only girl in my entire batch. However, I never felt left out. In fact, I made some really good friends, and became famous as the only girl in my batch.

The faculty is cooperative, and it entirely depends on how well you interact with them. The placements are good, and girl students get an advantage in some respects. You’ll learn to handle a lot of situations on your own, and you won’t be roasted much during labs and vivas as the professors have a soft corner for the very few girls in the batch. You’ll bond with people from the other branches quite easily.

My journey as a Mechanical student was filled with ups and downs. I made precious memories at the department which I will cherish for lifetime.
