Is hostel compulsory in nit surathkal?

SP
Sreeja Prasad Posted On : March 20th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal

It is not compulsory for students to opt for hostels at NIT Surathkal. A number of PGs and rented apartments are available for students around Surathkal as well as Mangaluru.

But there are various benefits of staying in the college hostel.

  • The hostel experience is worth it all. It will help you learn many things. You will get to interact with people from various backgrounds, which in turn helps in improving communication skills.
  • You will have an academic advantage as friends and class toppers are next door and can be asked for help or last-minute assignments.
  • You won’t need to worry about transportation at late-night college events or fests.
  • There will be a lot of fun, games, celebrations and late-night talks with friends.
  • You will also have the access to the whole beach anytime.

Infrastructure wise NIT Surathkal hostels are not that great. However, it is a whole other experience to stay in a college hostel and you should not miss out.

Does IIM Rohtak have hostels for the first batch of IPM?

SP
Supriya Pathak Posted On : August 5th, 2021
Studies at Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (2024)

For the first year, IIM Rohtak provides dual sharing rooms with air conditioners. No extra charges are required for it as it is included in the fee structure.

As the campus of IIM Rohtak is located a bit far away from the city, the college will be providing hostel facilities to the IPM students. Also, they are charging 4,10,000 fees which includes hostel charges, so there are chances of getting hostels. The college campus is huge and there is ample space for building hostels as well.

As far as the new hostel is concerned, it has been developed and is very huge. There are 4 people sharing rooms. There are two rooms connected with a single door. There are attached bathrooms as well. The new hostels are much better than the older hostels on the campus and have all kinds of facilities.

What are hostels like in IIIT Pune? How is life there? What sports can we play? Is there a WiFi?

JP
Jaydev Patil Posted On : March 19th, 2021
B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Pune (2020)

The condition of hostels in IIIT Pune is quite good, compared to most top institutes in the country. There are several reviews about IIIT Pune hostels, Wi-Fi accessibility, and sports opportunities on campus, and some of them are listed below.

  • The rooms of IIIT Pune hostels are on a 2-sharing basis. In the girl’s hostel, rooms are styled like apartments with attached bathrooms in each room.
  • The main building in IIIT Pune has an in-built Wi-Fi facility available. Previously, there was no Wi-Fi in hostels, but now it is installed.
  • The campus of IIIT Pune doesn’t provide the typical college life with a huge number of students and great city life. The overall batch of IIIT Pune is quite small, with everyone familiar with one another.
  • There are several clubs in IIIT Pune for events and participation. You can get into those according to your choice. Usually, you will get a lot of free time after classes and on weekends too if you don’t join a club or the other.
  • Pune city is somewhat far from campus and so, transportation is a bit difficult for students, and self-transport arrangement is preferred.
  • The campus of IIIT Pune is small and beautiful, with nice weather and a peaceful environment. There are hills surrounding the campus where hiking opportunities are available.
  • As per as sports is concerned, cricket, volleyball, football, table tennis, badminton, and some indoor games are available, so the number of options for sports are limited.

This is the overall overview of the campus life, hostels, and Wi-Fi facility on the campus of IIIT Pune, which is considered to be decent and satisfying.

How is the hostel food at SVNIT?

SK
Sumant Kumar Posted On : May 26th, 2021
Graduated in B.Tech, Chemical engineering from SVNIT, 2015

According to my friends at SVNIT, hostel food is extremely monotonous. It is mostly comprised of Gujarati dishes, which are not liked by them. The points below are some of the key highlights of the hostel mess food at SVNIT.

  • The messes in SVNIT are operated by different private contractors and so, the quality of food varies with different hostels.
  • The contractors use their tricks as far as possible to make maximum profits, degrading the quality of food.
  • There is a very limited choice of meals in SVNIT and students have to eat what is served to them.
  • Being in Gujarat, there are very few non-veg meals.
  • Every alternate Sunday is an off day for the hostel mess and students can go to restaurants or eat street food.
  • Outside the campus, there is a lot of variety in food.
  • Seniors are the best people to ask for good food destinations.

The quality of mess food in the hostels of SVNIT is quite evident from the above points, which is average in quality and not satisfactory to most students.

How are hostel rooms allocated in IIT Madras and what are the hostel rules and regulations?

MB
Mriganko Basu Posted On : July 26th, 2021
Studied at IIT Madras (2019)

One of my friends at IIT Madras stayed in the hostel. So I might be able to give you some information about it. Here is the stuff he shared with me.

  • The allocation of hostel rooms for freshers and sophomores are random.
  • There’s nothing as choice-based allotment of rooms.
  • The good point of this is that you would be in possession of a room among your other batch mates.
  • As mentioned earlier, sophomores again do not have a choice but to receive random allocation of hostel rooms.
  • You are transferred to another hostel in your sophomore year.
  • You’ll find yourself among the seniors and the better part of this is that seniors make the college life vivacious.
  • Students of 3rd and 4th years have the freedom to occupy rooms of their own choice.
  • Since the graduating students depart from the existing rooms, the sophomores and the students of 3rd and 4th years fill the vacancy.
  • But the students of 5th year receive a higher priority in room selection afterall, they are the seniors.

There are a number of rules and regulations to be followed but the bottom line is that the students could not care any less. They precisely live by not being troublesome to others in the hostel and having the freedom to create their own fun college life.

Loud music, smoking and drinking within the hostel premises are prohibited but if you find a neighbour who does not care about it then the problem is solved.

How is hostel life in NIT Rourkela?

AS
Aman Sharma Posted On : January 15th, 2022
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (2024)

NIT Rourkela has 11 hostels, out of which 7 hostels are for boys students, 2 girls hostels and the remaining 2 are for married students.

The administration is very strict and hostel timings can become an issue for girls. Apart from this, you will be given 4 hours to use the Gym. Other than that, there are indoor sports like Badminton and table tennis courts in every hostel.

You will be given access to DC++, a software where you can find everything from videos, PDFs, assignments, tutorials and many other things. Overall, NIT Rourkela Hostels are quite good as they are well maintained and provide all the necessary facilities.

Does all the AIIMS have the same freedom environment like bringing anyone to their rooms no hostel timings or is it only for the AIIMS Delhi?

SR
Sejuti Roy Posted On : September 24th, 2021
Studied MBBS from AIIMS Bhubaneshwar (2021)

In AIIMS Bhopal, the hostel deadline for girls is 10 pm and for boys, there are no timings. Even for the girls, the library is open till 2 AM. There are no strict timings for both the girls and boys and they can stay out after 10 pm also. Many students do that.

From the third year, these timings and rules are even more relaxed. Until the third year, a student can have minor arguments with the warden or the guard but there will be no major issues or problems. For events also, there is no one to watch you. With the help of the student union, no one interferes in the college fests or events. They don’t keep a student under eye for 24*7 and students can be around in the hostel campus these times as late as 4 am also.

These rules are relaxed after the first year as earlier the deadline was off till 9 pm for girls. The rule of boys could not enter girls hostels and vice versa still pertains. The students can visit the PG and intern hostels at any time.
