How can a science student prepare for IPM IIM Indore?

AS
Ankita Sinha Posted On : August 28th, 2021
MS by Research from International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (2020)

Being a Science stream student does not make a very bigger difference when it comes to IPMAT by IIM Indore. The exam has Quantitative Aptitude (QA) and Verbal Ability (VA).

The students from Commerce or Humanities background who have Maths and English as their subjects in Standard 12th have actually same chances as a student from Science background.

The Science stream student who is also preparing for other competitive exams such as JEE may have some advantages in the QA section.

Studied at IIM Rohtak (2019)

When it comes to an interview, your speaking skills, presence of mind, and your personality are three things that are taken into account. Other than this, you should keep in mind the following when preparing for an interview:

Honesty:

  • Never give out a false impression of yourself.
  • You might be counter questioned later which might point out if you are lying or not.
  • Always be honest and answer to the best of your abilities.
  • It is okay to not know the answer sometimes.

Confidence:

  • Be confident in your answers and your body posture should reflect that.
  • Keep it balanced. Don’t come off as arrogant. Always be humble.

Questions regarding your personality:

  • You might be asked to share something about yourself, why you wish to do the course as well as your strengths and weaknesses.
  • A few questions regarding your academics till 12th grade might be put forth.

Extra-curriculars:

  • You should definitely talk about your interests outside academics.
  • Do some research on this, be it dance, drama or karate. This will play in your favour.

Update yourself with the knowledge of Recent Trends:

  • Ensure that you read the newspaper daily as they might want to check if you are up to date with current affairs.
  • Know about the city you live in, history if any.
  • In Politics, you should know about the current cabinet and chief ministers and others of important positions.

Finally, be prepared that the interview might be an extempore one. You could be asked to speak about topics on the spot. Obviously, prepare for the questions listed and be honest while answering them. Do not get too nervous during the interview. Have a clear head and stay calm.

Which books are good for the preparation of NEET UG AIIMS and JIPMER?

DM
Debjani Modak Posted On : October 6th, 2021
M.B.B.S. from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Pondicherry (2024)

The first advice would be to solve your DPP or CPP modules which the coaching centers provide as those are well referenced from previous exams. After that, apply for a monthly or a weekly test series by any reputed coaching institute. These will gradually point out your mistakes and prepare you for the final exam. Give preference to solving questions rather than reading the theory.

The books which would be good for the preparation are: -

  • Physics: - D Mukherjee, HC Verma for numerical, also get hands-on some IIT question papers.
  • Chemistry: - IOC by Orion Publication for inorganic. MS Chauhan for organic and N Avasthi for physical chemistry.
  • Biology: - NCERT is more than enough for it. Solve as many MCQ for practice so that you can retain all that info quickly.

Some additional preparation sources other than those mentioned above would also prove beneficial. Solve questions of previous year’s JEE exams so that you can get the command over Physics and Chemistry. Moreover, practice organic chemistry a lot since it takes most of the time in the Chemistry section.

If you are preparing for NCHMCT 2022, try to get your hands on the previous year question papers. These will help you get an idea about the question pattern. The question paper is usually quite easy. Here are some of the reference books that you can use for your preparation.

  • Hotel Management and Hospitality Administration: Entrance Examination by Arihant
  • Quantitative Aptitude by RS Aggarwal

For current affairs, mostly question papers from previous years are repeated. You can also study hotel magazines to stay updated.

How did Yogesh Jindal learn finance concepts taught at IIM Ahmedabad? Did he take any special coaching?

SA
Shweta Arora Posted On : November 23rd, 2022
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad

My sister was in Yogesh Jindal’s batch and had asked about his understanding of finance concepts. He told her that initially he thought finance was rather a tough one for him but he utilised the maximum resources available and managed to score good marks even without coaching classes. Some tips he shared along the way are:

  • Attending remedial classes: Remedial classes are organised by seniors who have already understood the concept. It helps in adding points to their CV while for us we get free knowledge from the best.

  • Group discussion: Make friends that will help you clear any doubts.

  • Preparing before the class: We usually ignore this crucial step. Preparing before the class helps in better understanding of the concepts

  • Interact with teachers: Take help from your teachers in case of any queries inside or outside the class. It’s better to clear doubts in the class than regret it later.

Yogesh Jindal did not necessarily employ extensive means to score well. He simply had put a lot of effort in basic things and paved his own way.

What are some things to do a month before joining an MBA from IMT, Ghaziabad?

MB
Mridul Bagani Posted On : January 25th, 2023
PGDM Finance from Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (Graduated 2018)

The campus life at IMT Ghaziabad is very stressful and fast-paced. You need to prepare for this well beforehand so that you don’t end up in a slump. I have listed a few skills you can adopt to make your best time in IMT Ghaziabad.

  • Time management: This is the most crucial skill you need to inculcate before joining IMT Ghaziabad or any other B School. You cannot make the best use of all the opportunities offered until you know how to manage and prioritize your time. The first year is packed with assignments, group projects, case readings, committee work, competitions, and mid-term assessments. You need to learn to manage your time to make the best out of these.
  • Presentation skills: These include skills to use software tools like MS PowerPoint, Prezi, etc. to create a visually effective presentation. You can also work on your presentation delivery skills.
  • Data Analysis: The pedagogy for most courses is case-based that will include appendices of financials. Apart from this, most companies today are data-driven, and having specialization in the same will only increase your profile and potential.
  • Social Skills: IMT Ghaziabad batch size is usually bigger than other B Schools. The more people the more variety of backgrounds you will be dealing with. So it's best you prepare yourself to interact with them both informally and formally during Group Discussions and committee events.

Apart from acquiring the above skills, take extra care of your physical and mental health, get lots of sleep and spend time with your family

Which is the best department and subject in IIT Delhi for ESE preparation for civil engineering?

AS
Aditi Sengupta Posted On : April 5th, 2023
Civil Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

IIT Delhi's Civil Engineering department has a total of 7 branches namely

  1. Structural Engineering
  2. Geotechnical Engineering
  3. Transportation Engineering
  4. Environmental Engineering
  5. Water Resources Engineering
  6. Rock Engineering
  7. Construction Engineering and Management

The ones that I will recommend you not to join include - Structural, Geotechnical, Transport, and Water Resources. This is because you are planning to prepare for ESE which won’t be possible because of the demanding and rigorous curriculum of these branches.

Construction Engineering and Management is a good choice as the coursework is light in comparison to others. Rock Engineering is another good option but the future scope is limited because it’s not a major branch of Civil Engineering.

The most common choice among aspirants is Environmental Engineering with the least burden and great opportunities.

How shall we prepare for essay writing and GK for XAT to get into XLRI? As this pattern was absent in CAT, how shall we cover these sessions in this short span?

AS
Abhijeet Sinha Posted On : September 6th, 2022
MBA NMIMS,Mumbai

There are no fixed strategy to tackle the essay section of XAT. The essay topics are usually unpredictable. Usually, the topics are abstract in nature. It’s often observed that the topics are based on a common idiom or phrase with an implied philosophical hint. The aim of this section is to judge your language skill as well as your thought process. Practice writing sample essays on various topics and assess them on content and writing style. Reading the editorial section of national newspapers can be helpful for this section.

For the GK section, you should focus more on Economics and Business related topics. Prepare current affairs for the last 6 months. For Static GK read about awards, geography, books & authors, cabinet ministers, and government yojanas.
