Why is there so much waitlist movement in IIM indore and Kozikode?

HS
Harleen Sethi Posted On : January 24th, 2023
IIM Calcutta | Category Manager intern at Amazon

When you approach this issue analytically, it becomes surprisingly simple to comprehend. Here are a few of the best colleges along with an estimated number of seats overall.

  • IIM Ahmedabad - More than 400
  • IIM Bangalore - More than 400
  • IIM Calcutta - More than 400
  • IIM Lucknow - More than 400
  • XLRI - Around 360
  • FMS - Approximately 200
  • SP Jain - Around 240

There are more than 2400 seats available if you only take the aforementioned colleges into account, and most students who are converting to those institutions will likely choose them over Kozhikode or Indore. The majority of those on the first list who convert also receive calls from these colleges, which convert them.

As a result, there is a significant overlap of candidates, which causes Indore and Kozikode to move up the waitlist quickly. Please keep in mind that the number of buffer calls made also affects how far along the waitlist a person is. Maybe the high waitlist movement is being caused by I and K making fewer buffer calls.

What is the latest procedure of completing WES educational assessment for Canada from Pune University?

AD
Aravind Desai, Posted On : October 22nd, 2021
B.E. Mechanical Engineering, Savitribai Phule Pune University (2015)

According to the facts I learned from the internet, the process is very simple. You just have to precisely follow the steps given and all will be done.

  • Take all the required original documents which you need to send to WES.
  • Take 2 sets of photocopies of these originals.
  • Register yourself at Pune University Network as a student.
  • Choose the Third last option that is ‘Certificate Attestation’.
  • Then enter all the Documents which you want to get attested.
  • Click the ‘Save and Next’ button and enter the number of envelopes required.
  • Click ‘Save Envelope’ and then click ‘Back’.
  • Click on ‘Proceed to Print’ & choose your method of payment.
  • Click on ‘Save and Print’. Download 2 files, ‘Application form’ and ‘Fees Challan’.
  • Now go create an account at World Education Services and get your WES reference number after paying the fees online approx ?12,000.
  • Get 2 prints of WES application form. Do not fill them now.

Now you will have the following things in hand before visiting the University: Set of Original Documents, 2 Sets of photocopies, Application form, Challan, WES Reference Number. But this is incomplete, as you will need to fill WES form.

WES Form:

  • Fill both WES forms that you have.
  • Pay the required fees at the Bank counter.
  • Then they will accept your full application containing Photocopies & WES form along with the paid challan.

Visit after 8 days. Show the challan student copy. Check the documents for Sign and Stamp on all photocopies - including the WES form. Put all the documents inside including the WES form in the envelope, for being stamped.

Does IIEST Shibpur provide good placement for M.Tech?

SR
Sourav Roy Posted On : October 17th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur

As a former Civil student at IIEST, my answer especially concerns my branch.

Before pursuing an M.Tech, you must keep your aim straight. It should either be to work in a design company, or opt for a Phd. This is because B.Tech is a much better degree if your aim is to get placed with a good package.

The placements for B.Tech are much better than M.Tech, at IIEST Shibpur. Some M.Tech departments offer decent placements, while others aren’t even average in this respect. But the teaching is really good for all departments.

My answer isn’t very particular, but I tried to give you a general idea of the placement scenario for M.Tech at IIEST.

Can I start my graduation at IGNOU on my 2nd year if I completed my 1st year at another college? Can I do both BSc and another stream degree at IGNOU?

RM
Ram Ratan Mishra Posted On : November 3rd, 2022
BA economics from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

You certainly can. Credit transfer is available through IGNOU.

Credit transfer refers to allowing a student from another university to enroll in IGNOU to complete an equivalent degree based on credit transfer from that university. As a result, the student did not appear in the exam for that course, which was found to be equivalent to and for which appropriate credit was deemed to have been obtained for the purpose of fulfilling the IGNOU requirements for awarding a degree.

Of course, there are some ground rules. You can find it in the IGNOU prospectus or program guide. You can do both at the same time, one with a regular duration and the other with a certificate program. It would, however, be too difficult for you.

What do you have to say to a student who just got into IIM Indore's IPM program?

PS
Prakhar Sahu Posted On : January 2nd, 2023
Management Student at IIM Indore, Mumbai Campus

My friend is a senior at IIM Indore for the same course. As a senior, he has the following pieces of advice and recommendations for his juniors.

  • Spend quality time with your family and friends before joining. Do things you have been willing to do for a long time but couldn't. This is because once you begin your hectic life here, you won't get time for anything else.
  • Refrain from being a part of any clubs and fests in the initial year. Rather focus more on academics.
  • Your peers will be from diverse backgrounds. Some may find it difficult to interact with them. It's okay if you don't befriend them just don't look down on anyone. Everyone here is a genius who has made it into an IIM after many struggles. On the brighter side, peers from all over the country add to the experience and fun.
  • Try to make the most out of the library of the institution. You have a prior subscription included in your fees so you are free to explore the huge variety of books here.
  • Read the IPM Manual given in the orientation thoroughly.
  • Inculcate some extra skills like Excel or typing that might come handy in the future.
  • Don't hesitate from approaching the professors for any kind of doubts. They are very humble and cooperative.
  • Seek help from our seniors as they are more than ready to help in any situation.
  • Last and most important, learn basic E-mail writing etiquette before the actual program begins. This will save you from embarrassing yourself in the future.

All these points will help you avoid some major blunders committed by seniors. But remember everyone makes mistakes in their college life. What matters is how you tackle it and what you learn from it.

Is branch sliding possible in NIT Durgapur?

GJ
Gagan Jain Posted On : September 6th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology Durgapur

Yes, branch sliding is possible at NIT Durgapur. However, you need to follow certain policies to be eligible for sliding into another branch

  • Firstly , you need to maintain your CGPA throughout the first year and have a very high CGPA at the end of the second semester.
  • Secondly, there must be vacant seats in your desired branch.
  • There must be someone with a high CGPA who wants to mutually exchange his/her seat with you.
  • In case of a tie between two students, the winner will be decided based on the JEE Main rank.

In reality, it’s very difficult to find a vacant seat in your desired branch or someone who wants to exchange. So there won’t be more than 3 to 4 students who will be eligible for internal sliding.

Should I leave IIT Roorkee electrical engineering for SCRA?

AG
Ashish Gupta Posted On : April 12th, 2023
Lives in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India

One of my friends completed his Dual Degree program in CSE from IIT Roorkee last year. she was in a similar dilemma. The SCRA opportunity seemed lucrative to his father and relatives but he was against leaving IIT Roorkee.

He got the results in the first year at IIT Roorkee and she was due to join in the summer vacations. Giving up on the continued pressure, he decided to join SCRA. He couldn’t stay for more than 2 months and eventually resigned.

He shared the various perks he enjoyed as an SCA (Special Class Apprentice) with a high stipend, hostel facilities, and decent food. Additionally, he got a B.E. from BIT Mesra and you are given enough time to prepare for Civil Services. By the end of college, you are appointed as an Assistant Mechanical Engineer, a very coveted job.

Although he enjoyed his life in Jabalpur, his inclination toward programming always reminded him to go back, which eventually he did. So we can say that both opportunities are good except that one needs to identify his area of interest.

Shiva Prasad Posted On : August 2nd, 2023
Studied B.tech from Biju Patnaik University of Technology (2019)

You will be glad to know that scoring good marks in BPUT is rather easy. Here are a few simple tips to score good marks

  • Study from all the previous years' question papers
  • and trust me you will be able to get at least 50 marks questions in your semester from them.
  • Try to solve these papers yourself initially and then refer to the solved papers for correction.
  • Solve all previous years' questions at least once before exams.
  • Focus the most on 2-mark questions and learn all by heart.
  • Move on to the long questions carrying 10 marks only after you are done with the short ones.
  • Start studying at least a month prior to your semester exams.
  • Attempt the short questions carrying 2 marks first and then start attempting the long questions.
  • Never leave a question unanswered and always write something related to the question even if it’s a formula.

Following the above steps will surely help you gain knowledge and score good marks.

How does the TI sponsored MS program at IIT Madras stand out against the M.Tech courses at various IITs?

TB
Tushar Banerjee Posted On : March 29th, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

If you are considering pursuing an MS program in India, being sponsored by Texas Instruments (TI) to do it at IIT Madras is a great option to consider. Here are some reasons why:

  • Salary and bond period: If you are sponsored by TI, you may receive a salary or a part of it during your studies. However, it's important to note that there may be a bond period involved, which means that you will have to work for TI for a certain period after completing your degree.
  • Three-year program: The MS program at IIT Madras typically takes three years to complete, which is longer than the usual two-year program for an M.Tech degree. However, the additional year will allow you to do more in-depth research, which can be helpful if you plan to pursue a Ph.D. later on.
  • Research opportunity: The MS program at IIT Madras will require you to conduct extensive research, which will give you valuable experience and skills that can be beneficial for your future career.
  • Guidance from IIT and TI: You will receive guidance from both IIT Madras and TI during your MS program. You will be assigned a guide from IIT Madras, and you may also require guidance from TI, although the rules for this may vary.
  • Option for an extension to Ph.D.: The MS program at IIT Madras can be extended to a Ph.D. program if you decide to continue your studies. This option can be advantageous if you are interested in pursuing a career in research or academia.

While an ME program from IISc or IIT from the old five + Roorkee is also a good option, it may not provide the same research experience as an MS program.
