I have a choice of joining JNTUH or CBIT this year. I can also repeat to go for the NIT or BITS the next year. What should I do now?

Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : August 3rd, 2023

A close friend of mine is currently pursuing an integrated program at JNTU and is not at all pleased with its standard of education. He stated a few points that clarified his stance further

  • Majority of the subjects are taught by lecturers and not the actual professors. They have no interest in teaching and teach only a handful of subjects and leave the rest to untrained and underqualified lecturers.
  • Introduction of new courses like IDP, IDDMP, IIDDMP is greatly affecting the quality of education. The high batch size affects the student-teacher ratio and the limited resources cannot be availed by everyone.
  • JNTU  5-year course placements are very poor. CBIT has better companies than JNTU that offer better packages and opportunities.
  • JNTU has a better location than CBIT which is in a remote location and has limited outside life.
  • JNTU has no transport facilities so this might be a major obstacle throughout your program.

In all, I would suggest you go for CBIT as it seems to be in a better position than JNTU both in terms of placements as well as quality of education.

What are the problems faced by students in IIT Dhanbad?

Sayantani Barman Posted On : October 11th, 2023

IIT Dhanbad is one of the top engineering institutions in India, and as such, its students face a number of challenges. Some of the most common problems include:

  • The students are not provided with 24/7 Internet faculty and even the LAN connections are limited to a fixed time duration.
  • The students of the Earth Science branch are given more preference and they are sent for training expeditions and industrial exposure.
  • IIT Dhanbad has a reputation but only as ISM, its former name. Rarely do the recruiters and students know that ISM has been converted to IIT Dhanbad.
  • There is no inter-departmental and interdepartmental coordination. Academics, institutional administration, and hostel administration behave as if they are three totally unrelated bodies. If you want to report a problem, you will just be referred by someone to somebody else and yes, this vicious cycle continues.
  • The classrooms are not well-equipped and lack facilities like air conditioning and projectors.
  • Most teaching assistants lack experience and knowledge of their fields. Moreover, they have no interest in helping the students.
  • The juniors are dominated by the seniors and a few cases of ragging might also occur.
  • Students are asked to dress according to the college rules which are very illogical.

It's important to keep in mind that these are just general challenges and that individual experiences may vary.

Is NIT Agartala good for electrical engineering?

SM
Spandita Majumder Posted On : September 18th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Agartala (2019)

NIT Agartala is definitely not the best engineering college in India but its Engineering branch is certainly the best in the institute.

  • The faculty pool comprises both extremely talented as well as young and passionate professors. Faculties are an amazing combination of experience and.
  • The department conducts regular workshops and seminars on the recent trends in the industry.
  • Most of the classroom sessions are interesting and knowledgeable unlike other departments
  • The EE syllabus is very elaborate so it’s one of the most challenging branches with a maximum workload
  • Companies like Infosys and IBM visit the college for mass recruitment. Students are also placed in companies like ABB, Johnson Controls, Havells, Vedanta, L&T and others. Core placements are rare.

So, NIT Agartala Electrical Engineering is a decent choice if you are interested in the field genuinely.

Many students leave IIMs for FMS Delhi and do not look back. There are some things that are really unique in FMS. You have a well-established market in "Kamla nagar" to conduct market research. Despite its small size, the campus provides numerous opportunities to expand your cross-domain knowledge.

You are a student at Delhi University. You must manage everything, from finding a flat to organizing the laundry. It significantly contributes to the development of your overall personality. FMS has helped me become much more grounded. The faculty at the college are among the best in the country.

What are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at IIT Kharagpur?

AC
Anumita Chatterjee Posted On : March 23rd, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK)

Some helpful tip for students starting their first year at IIT Kharagpur are

CGPA: This step is often ignored after focusing too much on JEE preparations. It is very crucial to maintain 8.5+ CGPA by the end of the first year. The first-year subjects are comparatively easier and mostly are a part of JEE syllabus. So even without attending classes, one can stay at the top by studying sincerely 2-3 weeks before the exams and seeking help from your wingmates.

Hall: Taking part in hall activities is very necessary to maintain good relations with your seniors that will be guiding you on various parameters during your time at IIT. You can take part in Open IITs, sports, and SoCult activities, and learn a lot in Technical events.

Society: It is a very important way to explore your interests so go for as many as possible. They give you a chance to meet new people and develop good personal and professional relationships. The selection procedure of these societies helps you prepare for your GDPI around placements and thus is really helpful.

Trips: KGP is surrounded by many places that can be explored with your friends like Kolkata, Digha Beach, Mandarmani Beach, and Puri. These places can be visited during some weekends, and places like Sikkim or Darjeeling can be explored by the end of the first year.

Fests: IIT KGP has 2 amazing Fests called Spring Fest and Kshitij held during Spring semester that gives you a chance to make thousands of memories. It is a fun-filled experience comprising the star nights in Spring Fest, the lectures you hear in Kshitij, and the bots you see in the arena, all of which are very important. Don’t miss out on these amazing events as you might regret it later.

These are the best ways to make the most out of your first year at IIT KGP.

Which is a better option: IIT Bombay mechanical vs IIT Kanpur electrical vs IIT Roorkee CS?

A
Admin Posted On : June 25th, 2024

The general preference order is

  • College wise - IIT Bombay > IIT Kanpur > IIT Roorkee
  • Branch wise - CS > Mechanical ~ Electrical.

However, this is a popular trend, and you don't have to follow it. It is best to make a decision based on your individual preferences.

Doing something that interests you is considerably superior in the long run to doing something you dislike solely for money since, after a few years, money no longer motivates you.

Here are some information to make your decision easier:-

  • The placement scenario for EE in IIT Kanpur is good and stands next to the CS department in the table.
  • Though EE is the largest department when compared with others it still maintains its record well in placements.
  • The NIRF Ranking of IIT Bombay is 3, IIT Kanpur is 4 and IIT Roorkee is 5.
  • The Average placement at IIT Bombay Mechanical is 21.82 LPA with IIT Kanpur Electrical is 26.27 LPA and IIT Roorkee CSE is 22 LPA.
  • More than 250 companies visited IIT Kanpur campus in 2023.
  • EE offers specialisations like VLSI, SPCom, RF & Microwave, Power Engineering, Control & Automation. Placements for some of these specializations are 100 %, especially for VLSI, SPCom & RF.

Keeping aside the public’s opinion, my preference order is

IIT Kanpur Electrical > IIT Roorkee CS > IIT Bombay Mechanical

I got a waitlisted rank of 47 for IPM IIM Indore. Do I have a chance?

PR
Pubali Roy Posted On : August 20th, 2021
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (2019)

Last year one of my friends got selected for IPM in IIM Indore and he was selected with a waitlist rank of 41. While most of his batchmates also got around the same rank. So, there is a good chance that you will get admission too.

  • 47 is not a bad rank at all for IPM Indore as my friend and some of his batchmates also got a waitlist rank of around 40.
  • In recent years, the IPM course has gained immense popularity, thus you can’t have a 100% guarantee of getting selected.

At last, you have fairly high chances but still, it isn’t sure because of the booming inflow of candidates.

Is it important to learn any coding language before taking admission in IIIT Delhi, and if not, which programming language would you recommend I start studying just for fun?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : October 5th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Yes, it's advisable to learn a coding language before being admitted to IIIT Delhi although it's not completely necessary. IIIT Delhi organizes some coding sessions during the orientation for people with non-CS backgrounds. If you have no knowledge of coding, you don't have to worry much because many non-CS students have launched successful startups. All you need is the determination to work hard and interest to learn new things.

If you are adamant about learning a programming language, choose Python. You will be introduced to the world of programming through this and get excellent exposure too.

How is Civil Engineering at NIT Calicut? Is it worth studying? What is its package?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : August 19th, 2023

As a Civil Engineering student, I will dissuade you from pursuing this branch. You might be considering Civil for the tag of IITs, NITs or BITS. The campus placement scenario is not good for Civil and you will be left to either pursue an MS abroad or prepare for GATE/ESE. Both these options have nothing to do with the college tag. You can get an IT job through campus placements, but core jobs are highly difficult to grab. Also, the salary you will be offered in core jobs will not be at par with your NITian tag. Practically speaking, to crack GATE and ESE is more difficult than to crack JEE Mains because of one’s age group at this point. Other government exams are highly irregular and can not be depended upon.

For an average student, it is better to go for CSE or Electronics at an average NIT/ other college. The scenario is not pleasant for Core branches, especially Civil, in India. However, if you are passionate about pursuing Civil, its official placement figures for 2022 are provided by NIT Calicut.

These are the official figures for Civil Engineering 2022 placements at NIT Calicut -

Course

Students placed

Highest CTC

Average CTC

B. Tech Civil

86 out of 98

11.4 LPA

7.36 LPA

I suggest you consult with the seniors and alumni of the Civil branch of NIT Calicut to get a clearer understanding of the ground reality. Go ahead with this branch if you are passionate about it, otherwise choose among the Circuit branches.
