How is IEM Kolkata? Which is better, CS at IEM Kolkata or civil/IT at Jadavpur?

HR
Harsh Ragav Posted On : September 7th, 2022
B.E. in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Jadavpur University

IEM Kolkata is a reputed technical college in the region. But given a choice, you should take Civil/IT at Jadavpur University. JU ranks among the top engineering colleges in the country. It is well ahead of IEM, in terms of placement and opportunities.

Many core companies visit JU to recruit Civil Engineering students. The IT placement is excellent. Companies such as Microsoft, Google, etc. take part in Jadavpur University placements. During the 2022 placement drive, Facebook offered the highest CTC of INR 1.8 Crore per annum. The second highest CTC was INR 1.4 CPA, by Google.

Can you join IIM Bangalore after a B.Com with no work experience?

RM
Ravi Mehra Posted On : March 7th, 2023
B.Sc.(Prog.) in Physical Science with Chemistry, Hansraj College, University of Delhi (Graduated 2023)

Yes, IIMs do have a certain intake of freshers every year. Anyone without work experience can try their luck at IIM Bangalore as 20-30% of the batch comprises freshers. The reason for such an intake of freshers is that Recruiters from the Marketing and Finance sectors usually prefer a fresher given the nature of the jobs and roles offered. In the Marketing sector, you have to first go through Sales roles which are suitable for a fresher only. Even in Finance, the roles require a lot of working hours which might not be possible for someone with good work experience. Unless you have worked Sales/Marketing or have CA/CFA, recruiters prefer freshers only for such jobs.

This rule is applied somewhat similarly to other IIMs the only difference being the weightage given to different criteria.

If you are a fresher with average academic records, then switch to IIM Calcutta because Bangalore focuses a lot on academic performance and this might lower your chances of admission.

Can I get admission in Thapar University without the JEE Mains?

DV
Devesh Verma Posted On : March 15th, 2023
BTech in Mechanical Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (Graduated 2020)

As an Indian citizen, you cannot take admission in Thapar University without giving JEE Mains. However, if you are a foreign or NRI student, the admission criteria are separate and do not involve JEE Mains. For foreign or NRI students, the admission process is comparatively easier than for Indian students, so there is no need to worry about the criteria.

Thapar University has a separate admission process for foreign and NRI students, which involves fulfilling certain eligibility criteria, such as passing the qualifying exam with the required percentage of marks, and having a valid score in SAT or any equivalent examination. Moreover, if English is not your first language, you will need to provide proof of English proficiency through exams like IELTS or TOEFL.

Once you fulfill the eligibility criteria, you can apply for admission by submitting the application form online and paying the application fee. After the application process is complete, the university will release a merit list based on the eligibility criteria and your academic achievements. You will be notified if you are selected for admission, and further instructions will be given on how to complete the admission process.

In conclusion, if you are a foreign or NRI student, admission to Thapar University is possible without JEE Mains, as there are separate admission criteria that are relatively easier to fulfill. However, Indian citizens must give JEE Mains to be eligible for admission to the university.

Should I take up metallurgy and materials engineering at NIT Trichy?

SP
Shankar Pandey Posted On : March 15th, 2023
B.Tech Production and Industrial Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli (2020)

If you are considering pursuing an MBA, it is advisable to not opt for engineering as it may not be relevant to achieving your goals. Instead, studying economics could prove to be beneficial.

If you are looking for a specific course at NIT Trichy, it is recommended taking up Production Engineering. This is considered to be the best course for someone with managerial ambitions.

Now, you may be skeptical about someone suggesting a particular stream of engineering for an MBA. However, here are some of the suggestions:

  • The curriculum at NIT Trichy covers Operations Management in great depth. By the time you graduate, your knowledge in operations would be on par with that of a first-year management student.
  • You also learn the basics of economics with Industrial Economics.
  • Depending on your choice of electives, you can also gain knowledge in finance.

On a lighter note, the course is not very demanding, so you will have plenty of time to prepare for entrance exams or pursue other interests.

How is the placement of IIT Ropar 2021?

KS
Khushi Sharma Posted On : September 10th, 2021
B.Tech CSE from Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (2023)

The placements at IIT Ropar are good for some while it can be disappointing for others. They cannot fulfill every student’s aspirations. Some want to do corporate jobs while others want to apply for government fields.

  • CSE and IT students are more inclined towards corporate firms.
  • As there is a huge demand for working individuals in the corporate industry, even EE, ME students opt for it.
  • To get a job in this industry, you need a 7 or more CGPA.
  • You should also have great coding skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Try acquiring an internship followed by a PPO. Your projects will also be taken into consideration.
  • But if you are interested in being a software engineer, you can opt for job roles like Business Analyst, Product Manager/Analyst, Data Science, Algorithmic Trading (Quant), and so on.
  • For these roles, you will require Case studies, aptitude, good communication skills, and knowledge of a programming language such as Python or SQL.
  • The only issue is that many companies do not visit the college for these positions because students lack the necessary skill set.
  • The upcoming batches can work on these with Finance Club and Cdcrc, but a culture must be established for it.
Categories IIT Ropar
Placement Percentage (overall) 80%
Highest CTC 24 LPA
Average CTC 11.2 LPA
Recruiting Companies Wipro, TCS, Infosys, IBM, etc.

Finally, it is suggested that you maintain a good GPA, work on good projects, get good research internships, and after four years, secure a job role in a notable company or go abroad for an MS.

Are the rooms at NLSIU and NALSAR good?

AT
Alok Tripathi Posted On : September 8th, 2021
B.A LLB from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad (2024)

The rooms at NLSIU hostel are more or less okay. It is a government-backed institute and we cannot compare it with NALSAR.

The rooms at NLSIU can accommodate three students. They are not very spacious and you might find it difficult to share the rooms. There is no need for AC as the weather in Hyderabad is comfortable. There are coolers for the hotter months.

In the case of NALSAR, you will be sharing your room with another student for the first three years. From the 4th year onwards, you will have your own room. The rooms are not that spacious. With the construction of new hostel buildings, the problem of overcrowding is being dealt with.

What's your review of Flame University?

SD
Samita Dutta Posted On : May 5th, 2021
Studies at Flame University

I have a friend at Flame university and his experience at the institute has been great. Here is a brief highlight of the institute.

  • Academics: The academics of this college is very good and the professors are quite strict about assignments and these must be submitted by the given time. Faculties are knowledgeable and the classes conducted by them are very interactive. The combinations of major-minor are high across various subjects like business, science, humanities, performing/fine arts.
  • Sports: The sports scenario is very good and it is mandatory for first-year students. Every week three hours of sports are compulsory for all students which occur early in the morning.
  • Attendance: All the students are required to maintain 85% of attendance and you may end up failing if you have a lower percentage of attendance without any valid reasons.
  • Hostel: There are separate hostels for boys and girls and the hostel facilities are very good and they are kept clean and organized and housekeeping is available on a daily basis.
  • Rules: There are some strict rules too which every student needs to follow. Nonveg is strictly prohibited inside the campus and stuffs like alcohol and cigarettes are not allowed too. And if someone is found smoking or consuming alcohol they will have to face serious consequences and may even get suspended.

Hence, Flame University can be a good choice as it provides all the modern facilities and the academic culture is nice too but there are certain strict rules like attendance which has to be followed by everyone and cannot be avoided.

What is your genuine opinion about Azim Premji University?

NG
Nidhi Goyal Posted On : April 13th, 2021
Masters in Development Studies & Health and Nutrition, Azim Premji University, 2020

When my senior was a student at Azim Premji University, things were a bit different in terms of environment, pedagogy, and the way things were being taught then.

Some of the things he noticed were as follows.

  • The system of evaluation was not divided on the basis of mid-term and end-term performance entirely. It was distributed across various elements like class participation, assignments, case studies, presentations, etc. Topics were mailed to the students on which they were asked to discuss and debate.
  • The limits of the students are pushed and they are encouraged to think from different perspectives and come up with different possibilities. Critical thinking and discussions not only help in having an in-depth understanding of the topic but in the development of patience.
  • The classes were taken by professors who were experts in their fields and even the students contributed rather than just attending lectures.
  • The syllabus of the first year for all development students was the same and students can choose their subject of interest in the second year.

The university addresses the grievances of the students and the hostel facilities are also up to the mark. My senior got a scholarship of 50%. The university provides support by giving loans for the remaining amount.
