What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“We have the opportunity to groom and develop the youth in the education field”

The most important reason for being in the education sector is that we are connected with a generation that would determine India’s future profile. The students in the smaller cities are amazingly brilliant and need exposure to wider opportunities. The responsibility is entirely ours, through formal education and curriculum setting. We need to participate in policy and decision making at the College and University level.

What is your philosophy of leadership?

I have discovered that participative leadership style works best in most situations”

My firm commitments to adhering to a consultative model have helped me immensely with students & faculty members. Adopting a dictatorial or despotic style should be an exception and not a rule. The participative leadership style should be followed to run the Department functions smoothly.

What are the new plans to be incorporated into your institute?

“A focus on online education and implementing skill advancing modules in curriculum”

Currently, the corona pandemic has put several constraints on our functioning. It has very adversely affected the student’s strength. As the situation normalises, we intend to introduce and inbuild the following into our work:

  • Make online teaching a part of the academic regime envisioned by the UGC.
  • Introduce value addition programs to enhance the quality of teaching.
  • Introduce skill enhancement programs to build employability amongst the students.
  • Exposure to industries and entrepreneurship practices.

What are your responsibilities to the College and the students?

To ensure academic growth along with moral and social responsibilities”

My foremost commitment is regarding the academic excellence of the institute and its students. Also, to maintain the institution’s goodwill and survival in an emerging competitive environment.

What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“Adopting the latest Teaching-learning method and technology”

The colleges top priorities are:

  • Achieving academic excellence
  • Building employability of the student’s force
  • Collaborating with industry and institutions of higher learning.
  • Building a vision amongst our students that is both universal but grounded in our cultural values.

What would you like people to know about your college they may not know?

“A serene campus that combines modernity and Indian values”

My College happens to be an excellent academic destination in the area with excellent facilities. It is a peaceful campus with zero incidents of any communal, ethnic or gender discrimination. We have a no-tolerance policy towards ragging and illegal activities. We enjoy a very cordial student-teacher relationship and are trusted completely by parents.

What do you see as DAV College’s greatest strengths?

“Our academic results, excellence in sports and co-curricular activities”

The greatest strength of DAV College lies in its student-centric environment and excellent placement results. The college provides liberal assistance to meritorious and financially underprivileged students. The student’s population has a mix of genders/ethnicities and is a very safe academic destination for local and outstation students.

What are the challenging aspects of higher education in the current scenario?

“A need for the current education system to be skill-based and increase employability”

Our greatest challenge comes from the mass exodus of students to overseas colleges & universities. This has very adversely affected the survival of colleges in Punjab. It seems to be caused by rigid academic policies that have caused unemployment in our area.

Another challenge is posed by mushrooming colleges as it affects the quality of education. The biggest problem is the inability of our traditional university curriculum to build employability amongst the students.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth?

“The youth must aim towards becoming an academically strong and socially aware person”

In the youth, I would suggest that individuals need to develop themselves physically, intellectually, academically and morally. An ideal student has to follow the path of hard work and patience to succeed in life.
