Dr. P. Chitra has been working as the Head of Biochemistry Department at Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science for Women, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He has an experience of 28 years in handling UG and 18 years in PG classes. He has also published 30 articles in peer-reviewed International and 1 article in a National journal. She did her Under Graduation, Post-Graduation, M.Phil and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Avinashilingam University. She has finished her Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications from Pondicherry University and Post Graduate Diploma in Bioinformatics from Bharathiar University. She has also completed the Lead Auditor course on Environment Management System, Green Campus Audit, Energy Audit and Hygiene Audit. She is a Certified Diabetes Educator. She is a reviewer for the journal advances in Science, Technology and Engineering Systems. She has authored a book on “A Guide to Diabetes Care” and also authored 6 book chapters. She has acted as a Chairperson for International conferences. She has guided 13 M.Phil scholars and is currently guiding 4 Ph.D. scholars.

Next, we have bioinformatics tools to help researchers to correlate their findings with phytochemicals, cell lines and animal study within silico methods.

We conduct hands-on training for our students to equip them with required theoretical and practical knowledge and guest lectures to enlighten them on the current trends in the field of Biochemistry.

Our department has signed MoU’s with life science industries. And through this association, we conduct lectures, sessions, workshops and training with the expertise from research industries. Students are also taken for industrial visits periodically. 

What are the types of projects that the students are currently working on through this program?

"They are working on projects like identification of potential novel therapeutic compounds and their impact on biochemical pathways"

We strongly encourage our students to do projects from their first year, not only on the themes of Biochemistry but on all inter disciplinary areas. They are also motivated to participate in inter-college events like poster and model presentations as well as in other State and National level competitions. And If I talk about the types of projects, then our students are currently working on projects ranging from identification of potential novel therapeutic compounds, their impact on biochemical pathways and the use of computational tools for validating the compounds.
