Mr. Suman Chaterjee is currently serving as Principal at SCM Institute of Engineering and Technology, Kolkata. Having more than 15 years of experience in the education industry, he is a leader, philosopher and academician with a vision to create a difference in students’ life. Along with holding prominent positions in the administration of the Institute, Mr. Chaterjee has also organized and conducted several conferences and workshops in his academic career. 

What do you think your roles and responsibilities towards the students are?

“Bringing efficient ways to impart quality education”

Primary responsibility is to build the career of students by teaching them responsibly and effectively. We always upgrade our policies and make new rules and regulations to ensure the best education to our students. Apart from this, we also bring about new opportunities for the students making them learn in a much wider manner. Overall, we lay our focus on each and every aspect of best practice of the institute and the needs of the students. 

How would you describe your leadership style?

“Monitoring and responsibility of smooth workflow”

For me leadership is more of responsibility towards the institute, the teachers and my students. I always believe in teamwork and we all work as a team for achieving our missions’ goals. I monitor every task individually; also take help from my staff and feedback from my students in order to keep the balance and workforce in the most efficient manner. I make sure the goal of quality education is maintained.

What do you think should be the Institute’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“Placements and more industrial practices for students”

We are primarily focusing on providing good placements to our students globally. Also, we aspire to create best campus infrastructure, bring in more practical practices, industry collaborations for imparting unsurpassed knowledge and skills to the aspiring students. We want to create such an environment where students feel safer and learn with their full potential. 

How do you tend to establish a healthy environment in your Institute?

“Establishing good relationships with students”

Our teachers act as mentors for the students. They are cordial towards the students so that the students feel free to share their any kind of problems without hesitations. All our other staff members are humble towards the students to make them feel comfortable while staying inside the campus. We support our students academically and personally in every way. 

How does the curriculum of your Institute ensure the best practice of the industry?

“Modifying and updating the curriculum with industrial alignment”

We believe that the curriculum should be linked to the scope of employment and social as well as economic requirements of that particular subject. We can see that with respect to time new concepts come in trend, new topics come into picture so the curriculum should be inculcated with these new topics as well. We have organized a committee that modifies the syllabus every year taking care of the needs of the students and requirements of the industrial world. We also help students for getting internships and also take them for industrial tours to enhance their practical knowledge and skills on a regular basis.
