Mr Sonal Rungta is the Director of the Rungta Group of Institutions, Bhilai, Chhattisgarh. He has been instrumental in setting up and gearing the pace of functioning of the colleges. A Chartered Accountant and Management graduate in Finance, he has been a compelling influence in the inception of all Educational Initiatives at the Institute. He also interacts with worldwide thought-leaders to pursue new initiatives that will complement and strengthen the existing educational infrastructure. His passion lies in organizational development and creating motivated teams.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

We have a management philosophy of inducting talents with national and international acumen in the education domain. Over the years, we have succeeded in having a very strong Academic Advisory Board, comprising of influential academicians, academic administrators and senior professionals from Industry. This Board interacts regularly and suggests to us the changes we need to incorporate. Interactions with such eminent professionals, students, and faculty keep us motivated and connected to the Education domain.


What is your philosophy of leadership and its unbiased implementation?

As education leaders, we need to understand the difference between managing the Industry and managing a Group of Educational Institutes. Education is a people-driven domain. Accomplished academicians with the capability to transform students into successful professionals are at the centre stage. The management has to play its role of facilitator and administrators to develop student-centric policies and procedures.

I am responsible for developing a customer-centric culture that strives for excellence and succeeds in maintaining the rapid pace of growth.

What is your vision for the future of the Rungta Group of Institutions?

Initially, our vision was to develop top-quality institutions in the region and fill the void that existed in the higher education domain. The aim was to serve local students and make them employable for careers at the national level. The focus was localised, hence local acceptability, accessibility, affordability and local aspirations were more prominent deciding factors. Today, we have become more knowledgeable in terms of having an understanding of the Higher education domain.

What are some of the biggest challenges for the higher education sector currently?

“To stay relevant during the educational tilt towards unconventional paths”

Student aspirations are changing very fast in today’s world. Several unconventional careers are emerging, which may not even require a conventional degree for that matter. This aspect of Job market shift will further increase. It might so happen, that students in large number, would not even go to college for conventional education. How we tackle this challenge and remain relevant to such a segment of students would be a daunting task.

  • With Changing Professional Education Scenario, emphasis has now shifted to Skill-based Expertise. 
  • During the pandemic, Rungta Group has tied up with organisations like Harvard B. School, 8 Global Vendors for High-End training and Global Certifications including AWS Academy, GoDaddy Academy, CISCO Networking Academy, Paloalto Network Cyber Security Academy, etc. 
  • Additionally, personality development via, soft skill classes, Industrial visits, Vocational training on campus, and Internships are a regular practice.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth?

“They should commit to serve their motherland and be more responsive to the societal norms”

Today’s youth is more exposed to technology advancements and is highly informed.

My suggestion to them would be, that, with all that good in them, they should also imbibe very strong core values of discipline and integrity. They should always remain grateful to their elders, parents and teachers who have toiled hard for their success.
