Dr. S. Sudhakara Reddy has been working as the Principal of Malla Reddy Engineering College and Management Science - Medchal, Hyderabad, Telangana. He is a visionary and a dynamic leader and has 35+ years of rich teaching and industrial experience. As an administrator, he has been instrumental in acquiring accreditation status for most of the institutions that he has worked with. And he has also played a significant role in revamping, restructuring and reorganizing the systems at previous colleges. He obtained his B.Tech Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Production) from Kakatiya University of Warangal, M.Tech Degree in Design and Production Engineering (Machine Tools) from NIT of Warangal, MBA in Human Resource Management from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University of Hyderabad and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Sri Venkateswara University Tirupati of Andhra Pradesh. The research work related to his Ph.D was carried out at Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) and Advanced Research Center for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI) at Hyderabad. His area of research includesTribology, CAD/CAM & Advanced Manufacturing Technology. He has authored 4 text books and published 56 technical papers in various national, international conferences and journals. He is also a life member of various Professional bodies and a fellow of Institution of Engineers.

Our college offers specialized 4 year duration programs in the discipline of IoT, Data Science, Cybersecurity and Machine Learning to aspiring students and budding engineering professionals and all of these courses are accredited by JNTU of Hyderabad. And these programs are designed with the aim to make students capable of fulfilling challenges of global demands and to instill knowledge of the latest emerging technologies in students. Also 4 years of exhaustive and practical learning experience makes the candidate a sound and successful professional, who is ready to face and accept the worldly challenges.

We follow a blended learning model wherein the students are well-groomed by imparting best theoretical knowledge and practical learning and also to ease the communication process between faculty members and students. Also, we have developed a smart campus to give access to digital learning to students. Additionally, we organize rigorous training sessions for 2nd and 3rd year students followed by industrial visits, project exhibitions and research orientation programs. Lastly, our Institution conducts programs in association with corporate people in order to make them aware about the best industrial standards, practices, requirements, policies and safety precautions.

Our Malla Reddy Engineering College and Management Science has set up an Industry Advisory Board with the objective to establish strong industry connections, conduct workshops and FDPs in collaboration with industry experts and academicians and to consume suggestions for Institution process and curriculum improvement. And we follow an outcome-based education model and develop course plans in accordance with pre-defined objectives. Apart from this, rigorous and customized training programs are offered to students to enhance their skills and we also encourage them to pursue internships during vacations and acquire the necessary problem-solving skills so that they can mold themselves as per industry requirements. Also, a unique counseling process is followed wherein each faculty is allocated 15 students as a Proctor with an objective to follow students’ progress constantly and suggest necessary changes in case of any deviations.

We are using a Mentoring System to address and resolve students academic and personal queries and ICT methods and CRT classes to teach them. In addition to this, we have established a dedicated R&D Centre along with Centres of Excellence to provide them with the finest quality and practical knowledge, NCC and NSS units to make them patriotic and aware about the national issues of the country. Last but not the least, learning sessions and Field Visits in collaboration with Telangana Academy for Skills and Knowledge are organized and students are encouraged to do certification courses using online learning platforms like NPTEL. 


How do the programs of your institute ensure future preparedness of students?

We have adopted the phenomenon of Refined Teaching Learning that provides detailed learning to students and also motivates them to utilize their knowledge in projects. And to give them in-depth knowledge of their respective subjects, technical quizzes are organized on a regular basis. Apart from this, industrial visits, workshops and placement specific training are organized by us to prepare them for industries and make them aware of the corporate culture. How did you train your faculties to deliver new programs to students in the best possible way?

We train and upskill our faculty members through activity and project based training sessions, Faculty Development Programs and expert lectures which are organized on a regular basis. And our teachers meet students periodically to collect the pros and cons of their teaching methodologies and accordingly counsel them to remove the difficulties in their academic performance through a method called Mentoring System. The students’ personal issues are also discussed and proper guidance and support is provided to ensure that students feel comfortable on campus.


How do you build a connectedness between your institute courses and industry demands?

What challenges have you faced while inculcating new programs in your curriculum?

"Lack of latest laboratories and infrastructure along with qualified trainers was a real challenge for us"

Establishing the modern infrastructure and new cutting-edge labs for courses we are offering to students was initially a challenge for us. Apart from this, ensuring the availability of qualified faculty members to teach specific subjects to students was another hurdle we faced in initial times.


What types of projects your students are working on under their respective courses?

"Our students are working on amazing research projects and start-up ideas"

Our students are developing research oriented and innovative products by working on a diverse range of mini- major projects and start-up ideas. While, the aim of assigning mini projects to students is to strengthen their academic concepts and make them ready for major projects because in mini projects students try to make a sample replica for the major project before going into the real frame of work. On the other hand, major projects allow students to develop original research questions, gather and evaluate evidence, draw conclusions, and present and explain those conclusions through a variety of methods, including research articles, models, oral presentations, simulations or tangible artifacts. 


How does your college prepare students for higher education and placement?

We have a dynamic Training and Placement Cell in our college who regularly guides students from day one about the possible career scopes with regards to students' areas of interest. And after identifying students' passion and interests in Higher Education, corporate sector and Entrepreneurship so that we can expose them to relevant challenges and opportunities and make them ready for the outside competitive world. And after successfully completing their respective courses from our college, our students can work as Software Developers, Business Intelligence Analysts, Web Developers, Software Quality Assurance Testers, Information Security Analyst, Technical Writers, Technical Assist Engineers, Full Stack Developers or as Computer Technical Support Specialists. Besides this, they can work for public sector companies that are partially controlled by the State, the Center or both Governments, such as BHEL, LIC, Hindustan Copper Limited and NALCO.
